i'm still ecstatic over seeing Kanye, but the Mothership being on at the same time is definitely a huge pisser! if only it could've been on the Sunday

Tempted to watch 15 mins of Kanye just to see what the fuss is. If you stand over by the Cider Bus it's only a 5 minute walk to West Holts.

The Sunday would have been worse for me because I've wanted to see The Who for years. I think it may be a case of seeing how I'm feeling on the day, but if Ben Howard is on at the same time as well that is just an absolute killer clash for me.

Weller? Dire. Really thought they'd have someone to appeal to a different audience to the Who. I'm holding on to the fact he's only gone to SR not TBC...

i'm holding out hope that he's 3rd and Alt-J have been bumped up to sub.

i mean, i think Alt-J are shit, but they're more deserving of being higher onthe bill than Paul bloody Weller.

I am of the opinion that none of the best bits of Glasto are on the television (or translate well to television). You'll have a great time. Give the playlists a rinse or two before you go to check out some of the great acts you might not have heard of, then go for a wander when you get there.

I think when i said shocking i was being a "tad" harsh in my wording :) i have been listening to a playlist someone posted on here a few weeks back and it's giving me options. I was just obviously dissapointed i'm not going to get the epic artist i wanted. Saying that, things can always turn out to be an anti-climax.

I'm liking the sound of Courtney Barnett, she's confirmed right?

although Scottie/Neil have had info that Noel isn't playing, i see he's been talking to Chris Martin lately:

http://www.stereogum.com/1799564/noel-gallagher-has-some-dependably-amusing-thoughts-about-tidal-zayn-malik/news/

“Do these people think they’re the fuckin’ Avengers? They’re going to save the fuckin’ [world].” I was speaking to Chris [Martin] the day after, and I said, “Are you after a Nobel Peace Prize? Is that what you’re after?” They were like, “We’re going to fuckin’ save the music business.” And I’m just sitting there, thinking [imitates smoking weed] you might want to write a decent chorus for a fuckin’ start. Never mind fuckin’ royalties and the “power of music.” Write a tune. Fuckin’ start with that.

[Laughs] I only watched it because someone was like, “Get on these bunch of c**ts on here.” And I went, “Who?” “Fuckin’ your mate Chris Martin and all these c**ts.” I got on YouTube and was like, [makes crinkled face] “Oh. Ohhh. Ohhhhhh.” Alicia Keys made a speech that really should have been at the U.N. “We’re all aware of the power of music!” But I don’t think you are. I quote Nietzche regularly too, but only when I’m talking about downloading [laughs].

In his defence, he shifted quite a distance from the meat and potato rock of Heavy Soul and the like. I've not give it much of a listen myself mind, but he seems to get decent reviews. I played that 22 Dreams a couple of times, wasn't too bad. Hardly the sort of stuff I'd be seeing at the Pyramid on the Sunday mind.

Exactly how I feel. I bought 22 Dreams on impulse and recall liking it on first listen - but I haven't revisited it and it's not a good fit for any festival's main stage, especially at the business end of the day!

When i've seen it on TV, it is moments like these that obviously stand out, because the epic shows make for good coverage, and i hoped i would get that.

I was probably being naive hoping i might get it on my first outing.

There are some prime candidates for incredible sets this year I think you'll be satisfied! It's a hell of a thing - I think my favourite description of the TV coverage is it's like looking at the festival the wrong way through a telescope

Agreed on all counts. Unfortunately Emily's tweet about having a "great penultimate" to announce makes it v unlikely.

The spin/hype/commentary this year has been daft.

Lol, it's a direct quote from Emily's tweet from what, a couple of weeks ago? Hardly "spin/hype/commentary", nor daft for that matter. "Penultimate" is not a word anyone uses in any kind of loose fashion. I know what you mean, people bringing up old quotes from Michael, but this is not an example of it. They will be announcing a "penultimate" act.

Hmm. Maybe some wires crossed here. I'm talking about the spin/hype/commentary from within Worthy HQ, not something you've said mate.

When I read The Who were headlining I actually straight away believed they were cancelling the Paris show to do it.

I just find this whole Weller angle far less believable. I don't know why, but it just doesn't seem to fit right.

That, of course, does not mean it's not going to happen....

Ah, OK. I was confused! I'm glad she came out with that line at least. Otherwise the Chris Martin supergroup nightmares may have plagued us for longer.

it's still an odd thing to have come from Michael. whereas many of his previous comments can now be brushed off because things have clearly changed since, this one was fairly recent (and weirdly specific) and so is still looming, unless of course he just enjoys taking the piss, which i know i would

My umpire at cricket tonight's son is a Paul Weller roadie and he knows him personally. Would have asked about Glastonbury if we hadn't ruled him out because of his Holland date.

Was talking music to one of our players who's a sound engineer, and he came over and randomly told us this, and started banging on about The Jam and Style Council. He seemed excited so I didn't wanna tell him I had no interest whatsoever in his moddy ways.

At least one good thing has come out of all of this, there has been some tremendous insulting of Paul Weller in the past few pages, it's made for a very entertaining read.

    • Very quiet in here at the moment.....again.   I hate this time as other festivals start and we see who Sziget should've booked 🤣   The Cure knocking it out of the park once again at Primavera showed that they have fans of all ages and, even if it's felt they don't represent the direction Sziget is going in, they would've been a huge draw.   Ditto The XX, who I've never been a massive fan of tbh, but put me in my place at Primavera with a cracking set.
    • Ballots for BST and Roundhay dates on TfG
    • Yeah, I feel like people are really overlooking just how fantastic Simple Minds are. ABC have a classic 80s new wave album behind them as well.   That being said, yeah it's not worth travelling for. But it's a lineup I would be happy with if it were local to me
    • On the Wet Leg crowd - the opening day always has the worst crowd of the festival. A lot of locals show up purely because it's a cheap evening, often with not much interest in the acts performing, so, while the talking is an issue throughout the festival (and increasingly at gigs/fests everywhere) it's particularly rough on the Wednesday every year. I'll only bother next year if I really like the act playing.  The wristband is basically a souvenir these days, which I like, as I keep them. Also I guess for the festival it's kind of cheap advertising as people walk around the city with them on.
