Pretty much agree with the above. I just thought it took more than critical acclaim, which can clearly be gained with little talent, to play Glasto but I'm new to it and maybe completely wrong.

yeah, you are.

you don't even need critical acclaim, as much of the dross that has played Glastonbury over the years shows.

It's a shame that by all accounts that Gorillaz had a duff set at Glastonbury. They had a really tough task in filling in for U2. I wasn't there, but I saw them a few weeks later at Benicassim and loved their performance - maybe it just didn't click that night at Glasto? And perhaps the crowd I saw them in were a bit more receptive to their music.

If you're headlining I think it really helps if you either have lots of hits or you're popular enough at the time that everyone knows your album tracks. That just wasn't the case with Gorillaz at Glastonbury in 2010. I seem to remember it was about 45 minutes in before they played a song that any non-fans would have recognised. By then the atmosphere had gone stale.

What about The Libertines I know they are headlining both reading and Leeds but has a band ever done both? Could make sense why they cant announce till June gives them more time for them to sell Reading and Leeds tickets

Pretty sure they are still free over the whole of glasto weekend as well

This is a good shout. Were heavily rumoured to headline. Would snap ME's hand of for the opportunity and would be a successful get out of jail card (if a third headliner has really not been signed yet.)

+ not a british band who has played the headline slot many times before

That's not a problem .. They could 'Russia over' to the farm for a Sunday headliner slot after they've played!

(Yes, This is the depths this thread has now sunken too!)

I'd posted about the Libertines a week or so back, but I'll quickly recap. Glastonbury had held talks with The Libs about a slot (this was before they'd signed on for Reading/T-Fest), but the bands management priced them out of negotiations. A friend of mine is close to the band and, at least as of last week, there was no chance of them playing due to the financials involved and the reluctance to negotiate down a price.

EDIT: I should add that this was all from about a week ago so who knows if things have changed. Especially if it's true that the headliner has only signed on in the last week, but the feeling I got was that it was unlikely. At least this year.

Blur are on Jools Holland tonight/Friday for anyone interested, along with Laura Marling, The Vaccines, Natalie Prass and a few more.

All of those are pretty strongly rumoured aren't they?

(With the possible exception of Natalie Prass, which is a shame as she was excellent when I saw her supporting Ryan Adams last month).

Why would this effect the Sunday night?

The journey would be possible just don't see the Libertines as the kind of band wanting to make such a large journey between shows.

I am sure they have played shows after each other but they are either in the same country out closely boarded country's.

This is where I get proved wrong and someone points out previous recent dates.

I'm not remotely a fan of the Libertines, but I always thought that a big part of their appeal was the fan culture that they fostered - the whole good ship albion thing certainly made them and their fans seem far more special than their contemporaries. How sad that they are now simply in it for the cash. I found the idea that they had a gold circle at their recent Hyde Park shows particularly depressing.

There's a big feature on Blur in the latest Mojo. In it Albarn says thay one of his regrets is not talking to, or forming a connection with, that 2010 Pyramid Stage audience. So it seems like he's aware of the disconnect.

The crowd started off really happy for that, If i remember right they were subbed by Vampire Weekend, Snoop and Dizzee Rascal, who wouldn't be upbeat after that?

The false start definitely didn't help, relying on guest appearances too heavily (did half the crowd know who Mark E was?) and saving your best 2 songs for last were all bad ideas too. A bit of Feel Good Inc or CLint Eastwood earlier on would have helped. I think the bit where most people around me cleared off was the bit when the people came out to play bongos and traditional instruments.

Yeah, but it was never going to be hit heavy was it for 2 reasons - 1) they just don't have that many mainstream hit and 2) It was all about the Plastic Beach concept. Their whole show and tour was geared around that. It was more an artsy 'piece' rather than a rock and roll set and we knew coming in that's what they were doing at that time. I thought it was fantastic personally. Though would've see The Flaming Lips watching footage back.

This. At first I thought that people were just being ironic when they said they liked Taylor Swift, as it appears to be music marketed at people who have to go gigs with their parents. It sounds (to me) like all the other manufactured pap pop out there that meaninglessly passes me by on the rare occasion I'd be somewhere Radio 1 plays. When it dawned on me in this thread that people were serious I just couldn't understand why. I still don't.

Exactly my thought process. I really thought people were joking. (And part of me still wonders if it is the longest running practical joke on these boards).

Aye. I was wondering if there was an element of the wind up going on ( no offence Martin ) until Friday night !

Was down my local boozer and they had a heavy metal covers band playing to a big crowd of leather clad lads. Twas all hair and waistcoats ( apart from me ). About 10pm they took a break after belting through some big tunes ( some of which I knew ) to much banging of heads. As everyone shuffled out for a smoke that Swift tune about hatres gonna hate hate hate hate hate came over the PA and to a man and woman they joined in. All of them. They were loving it. Since Friday I have checked out a couple more of her tunes. They are catchy and pretty " fun ". She is the one thing my twin boys ( aged 9 ) want to see this year. Since I dragged then along to the Stones a couple of years back then it seems fair we stand together again in the field and this time watch their choice.

I`m in* !

* Bet she doesn`t play now :)

In this country, her hits have been the poppier songs produced by Max Martin, who also has had success with the likes of Katy Perry and Britney, hence why many may feel that she's similar to them. However, Swift tends to write the songs herself, with the production now having shifted on the latest album from country-pop/soft-rock to pure pop.

Beyond the well known singles is a more country singer/songwriter output, which is why she's had significantly more success in the states where that sort of thing is more popular. One of my favourites is Safe and Sound from the Hunger Games soundtrack.

Also really like her cover of Riptide from Radio 1's live lounge.

Yeah, she's a little bit of a guilty pleasure, but Blank Space is such a tune.
