IoW's pretty darn good if you think about it. You can see both Blur and FM play their own gigs this summer with tickets costing £80 and over £100 respectively. That's your weekend price covered already. There's also Prodigy, Black Keys, Pharrel, James, there may be one or two others. Any time there's nothing on just have a drink in the sunshine.

I'd be really tempted if I wasn't already going to a gig that weekend (taking Mrs Jass to see Elton John).

Shaun keaveney been very coy after he played new charlatans song about half an hour ago. Saying he couldn't say what he knows but was desperate to.

Reckon he knows it's the Roses.

Tenuous I know but it has cheered me up.

maybe he knows the charlatans are playing?!

The IoW crowds look absolutely dead on telly. Two stages only is a crap choice. And given I couldn't care less about Fleetwood Mac I'm glad I'm going to Download instead that weekend.

There aren't 2 stages - that's like saying Glastonbury only has the 6 they show on telly - when I last went a few years ago there was 7 stages at IOW. Edited by 5co77ie

Have to say I agree. They have done well this year. Yes the undercard is not as stong but it will never compete with the likes of glasto - there are still several acts that will interest people during the day, a choice of alternative headliners and a couple of blockbusters at the top.

On the website it only has Main Stage, Big Top and Garden Stage. So 3? With the last one being entirely acts I've never heard of so not exactly a draw...

Sounds like it's maybe upped its game. When I went in 2007 to see the Stones there was the main stage, bands on in a sort of 60s mod-themed bar and a Strongbow-sponsored edifice with DJs - and that was it.

I've got to back you up on this. I went a couple of years ago, and there were only 3 stages. You can barely even call the third one a stage. And when a decent act is on in the Big Top, it's rammed to the gills and you can barely see anything. To add to that, the atmosphere wasn't great. There isn't much else to do in the day when you don't want to watch a band. Just a few small food areas and some fairground rides that cost about a tenner to go on. Also the Arena is shut off until quite late in the day, so there's not much to do when you first get up except loiter around the tents, waiting to be let in. Not going back again.

So this thread has turned into the IOW headliners thread now.

What would you prefer, the same drivel of swift, roses, prince, madonna etc etc. if your not allowing people to discuss the major music festival news story of the day for a few minutes then I'm worried.

You're right there isn't much to do - we usually leave the site about 11 get a cab down the road to a little boozer and stay there until 5/6 when the acts higher up the bil start.

Great pub, not sure if we're welcome back this year.

Back to Glastonbury ...

    • Lost my love of football years ago so I pay very little attention to it these days but I'm really enjoying Max Rushden's video diaries of his flat share with Barry Glenddening. I think Barry might kill him before the end of the tournament
