You could use the same argument to "adopt" the n-word as well. It's racism plain and simple and saying that it is acceptable in certain circumstances means that morons like Carlton will happily use it in everyday conversations. It's a disgrace.

"The word Yid was adopted over 30 years ago by Spurs fans to combat racist abuse aimed towards them at football by opposing fans.

It developed into a strong identity status that brought Jewish and non-Jewish Spurs fans together in an incredible show of unity that is admired worldwide. That is what fighting racism within football should be about."

Now I'm not clued up on spurs history so who knows it could be right, calling each other anti-semitic names may infact help end racism, however I feel that this is not the case and referring to each other in such ways is very, very twattish

Hmmm. A tricky one. Thing is, it is broadly accurate. The Spurs fans, both Jewish and non (and there are a lot of Jews in the thick of the most fervent Spurs fans) genuinely do use the term 'affectionately' to describe their herd identity. They will chant 'we are the Yids, we are the Yids, we are, we are, we are the Yids', and end songs with the repeat of 'Yiddo, Yiddo!'. I think it is reasonable to draw an analogy with black people using the N word, the point being that when they do (or the Spurs fans use the 'Y' word') it is 'OK', because they have claimed ownership of it, they're using it on their own terms.

Not saying I agree or disagree, per se. Personally, I find little offence such words, only in the way in which they are used - if you use them intending to offend, then they do...

Even if that's the case, probably not the best idea to start chucking it around with no context on public forums.

Christ if you were offended by me calling Swift a yid after referring to her as a spurs fans you need to lighten up

Because we all follow the world of football and its famed progressive and accepting ways. All I saw was a racial slur from a troll, you know it's highly offensive, and you're not being smart by going "aww lighten up, it's a football thing".

Foos

Killers / Muse

Swift / Rudimental

Thats it....nailed on ;)

If rudimental headline i will go and watch them, even if patti smith is playing on west holts at the same time. The fact that I'm making this promise should illustrate how unlikely they are.

That prediction was based on them abandoning their set last year and EE's statement regarding bumping people up to headline status......I accept its not very credible haha

William Hill have opened betting again for the Sunday headliner, shame there's no solid rumors at the moment

http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/betting/g/2720341/To-Headline-Glastonbury-2015.html

AC/DC are favourites for Sunday headliners?

Are they going to put a load of Tv screens up on the Pyramid so people can watch their Glasgow gig?

God there are some dumb fucks in the UK, deserve to lose their betting money

If you list that lot and then take who isn't playing (Adele, ACDC, Queen etc...........) There has to be some money in that doesn't there?

Macca at 12's looks good to me.

I can't even imagine being offended by that, some need to get a grip. Goodbye

You can't imagine being offended by anti-semitic language at a time when anti-semitic attacks across Europe are becoming such a problem that even Madonna has seen fit to speak out against them? You're right, goodbye.

Hope its not Macca his voice is completely shot now, using Spurs analogy he is the Soldado of music, seen him live twice and now he is just embarrassing himself, although am sure the Glasto faithful will love singing along to Hey Jude after a few drinks

Goodbye indeed, you really aren't needed here.

I'm a Spurs fan and there's a need to understand what's going on here. We use the term 'Yid' inclusively. Its a little part of our identity. Its analogous to gay people using the word 'queer' or black people using 'nigger'. (Not exactly the same I know). Using a term that is aimed at abusing you in an ironic way is a way to reclaim language and establish identity.

Using the same term to abuse somebody is completely different. So Swift is a Yid, Yanye is a nigger, in a different context is racist.

Sorry if this is difficult.

    • It was always going to be the cost. stuff like this:
    • Man/Woman/Chainsaw anyone? Still 4-5 secret sets to be filled.   New album out today and Rough Trade friendly.
    • can't edit, but just to add to the above:   i get that the last bit is meant to reinforce the message that they are all horrible people and closing ranks to cover up what has happened and carry on with their lives while poor Celeste is left alone with her trauma...   i get it thematically, i just really hated the way it was on screen and i say that my ending would have made for a better movie.   🙂
    • Sadly, the ticket map below screams rear 5 blocks not on sale or never have been on sale. Especially when you look at the blue blocks with rows of unsold tickets.   And I say all of this as a big fan of Muse.
    • Personally, I don't think there will be any changes to the queuing system in place for the 2025 sale.  GFL will be aware that true bots are a risk, but they may also see large collectives of organised folks running multiple devices, containers or profiles to get an advantage as bots themselves, and then struggle to know where to draw the line without penalising folks who are simply more on the ball than others.   They will also be acutely aware that engineering tech to close those gaps will cost, and therefore eat into the money they are able to pass to the Charities, without passing those costs on to punters in the ticket price, which they will be cautious of doing especially after a 2 year break and the inevitable media coverage that will get.   This may all be naive and overly trusting of me though.....
