Radiohead haven't headlined for 12 years next year. Considering Coldplay, muse and arctic monkeys have all headlined twice since then it's a fucking disgrace.

That's because they haven't made any decent commercial music in that time, and they refuse to play the classics live. All subject to opinion of course. Coldplay and the Arctics are still banging out hit singles.

Radiohead would do well to headline the Other Stage these days.

I can't see Radiohead doing anything but headline Glastonbury because they're so majorly popular. With a new album on the way which I'm sure will have a hit single in it, they're a very good bet to be Glastonbury headliners.

Pinch of salt but The Western Gazette reckons Elton is looking at temporary accommodation for next year's festival. Also, if you tried hard enough you could work him into what Eavis said the other day. I don't think I'd go see him but he's probably one of the biggest names to never have played, so it's long overdue and would make a lot of sense.

Elton and Muse. My dreams are coming true. The whole family will be heading down.

What are 'the classics' they refuse to play then?

I'd love Elton and it's very overdue. Problem is he struggled to sell out Leigh Sports Village near me which is about 10,000 capacity. I'm sure in a crowd of 130.000 or whatever enough people would see him but does he warrant the slot in the first place?

Of recent headliners I'd say that Elton would be comparable to Stevie Wonder in that he may not be the biggest live draw on the planet any more but the sheer depth and breadth of the songs he'd likely play would be enough to attract a big old crowd - bigger than either Arcade Fire or Metallica's, for instance, who's crowds were dwarfed by Stevie's.

This place seems to be obsessed by Radiohead.

I just can't see the likes of them or Muse, as good as they both may be headlining anymore in the near future.

They've both headlined previously and I'm sure that Michael Eavis has ambitions to see his own favourite bands of his era up on the Pyramid.

Bands like Fleetwood Mac,Led Zep,Eagles have so far slipped through his fingers for one reason or another. Then you've got the likes of Prince and maybe AC/DC, bands that don't normally play festivals. It's what makes Glastonbury unique, Bands do it for the prestige, not for the money. I could even see Aerosmith or Bon Jovi up there too.

Then you've got to factor in who's popular for the young ones too, so you might see a Rihanna or a Katy Perry on the Sunday.

aerosmith would be AWESOME!

i reckon bon jovi might want to do it after one of em turned up this year with dolly

Is this a joke? In rainbows was an amazing album.

Radiohead will also be a headlining band

I still think Elton John will be the Sunday 'legend', can't see how he could headline based on the current live shows he does. Bestival aside, they're all very small shows which don't sell THAT well.

Stevie Wonder, on the other hand, played arenas all over the place and Hyde Park in the same year as headlining.

In Rainbows is probably my favorite Radiohead album - the previous comment did specify "commercial" though. So I would agree to an extent.

I've seen Elton in two sold out (I think) arenas in the past year...

That's interesting. I think he's much more likely if he's failing to sell out venues, because a good Glastonbury gig for a British performer is often a decent career boost. Perhaps he'd be more likely as a Sunday legend, but I think he'd be worthy of a headliner slot.

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
    • It's certainly gone more that way, but then they went completely in the opposite direction and had Cat Stevens.
    • Chaka can, or Chaka can't?
