Loved the set list, thought they pitched it just right and the intro video was great.

Really, really, really great. Only bought their stuff very recently so not a megafan but I loved it. Master Of Puppets was colossal. Made all the better by being in the front pit surrounded by their fans who seemed like they'd waited their whole lives to see Metallica at Glastonbury. Sound was incredible too. Other than the lack of Sanitarium I can't fault it. What a set.

Found it all rather listenable. Thought they didn't have enough hits to carry a headline set (and that's a problem for anyone, metal or not). Bits of it sounded rather dated. All good fun and the band were very gracious with their speech at the end (and in the intro video) - something at their stage in their career they didn't have to do if they didn't want to. Good on everyone for taking a chance on something new, even if it was born out of a bit of desperation!

Agree with all this. But it's a mystery to me why a band with so much musical talent, with a great frontman and a good sense of humour (the fox video was hilarious) can't write more interesting lyrics occasionally.

All the worrying about mosh pits was predictably misplaced - tame, friendly crowd and not at all crowded. A group of students near me started barging into each other towards the end but all got a bit self-conscious, bless.

Anyway, good fun but no more metal headliners thanks.

Disrespectfully late on stage. Horrible intro video that just made me feel uncomfortable. And why was the stage filled with people waving flags? Just strange.

Didnt like the actual music at all and left after 2 songs, along with a fair few others.

I can usually stick out an act, but not this band. Definitely not for me.

Tried to grab one of the three massive multicoloured ones for my kids but to no avail.

They were fine, really. It seemed really short, though. After all that wait it seemed a bit blink and you miss it.

They were absolutely brilliant, for me this was my 11th time i've seen them and they really did nail it. The only thing that was slightly unsual was there no pyro and the set was pretty short by Metallica standards, i'm sure there are genuniue reasons for both.

I had one of my metallica t shirts on and after there set people were comming up to me just to talk about it, one guy was tellng me he's not really a fan but absolutly loved it.

Well, wasn't that epic beyond all proportions?

Maybe slightly bias on my behalf, because i do love come cracking guitar riffs, but i felt they nailed it. They had to, and truly delivered, pulling out all the stops, Seek and Destroy? AMAZING.

The little things, make a great performance memorable, and the video before they started, and the rubber balls, made it memorable, and not regrettable for the Eavis's, it's nice to see bands putting in that extra effort for Glastonbury.

One of the best bands I've ever seen live, absolutely fantastic, right at the front and the pits were insane. Great setlist, great crowd, great band, really made my festival and silenced the critics, deserved their spot there. Also got a beach ball as well.

i was so hammered during Metallica that i forgot half of their set and have only just had a proper look at the setlist. some glaring omissions (Battery, Welcome Home, Fuel) and some odd choices (Cyanide!?) but The Memory Remains was brilliant. loved it. and the intro video was incredible

Funny how much they threw themselves into the weekend, especially Ulrich. You could see Hetfield was visibly pleased when the crowd sang bits back at him, they put plenty of effort into the set and Ulrich was there all weekend exploring. Interviewed after by the beeb he described it as 'other-worldly'

They certainly seemed to 'get' the festival and i can't see them making people wait deliberately. The set did seem short... I wonder if it was cut last minute and some of the heavier songs didn't make the cut? Purely selfishly that would probably make it better for me

Was really worried all day how metallica was going to go down.

Where they going to crash an burn on prime time tv.

To my utter delight they smashed it.

Even got a text of my sister who isn't a metallica fan saying "they're bloody good"

The responce from the glastonbury crowd was better than I could have dreamed for,how loud were they and even sang along..

Would have preferred the full on light stage pyros/flames of a normal metallica show to the stripped down show,but I guess they just wanted to get down to business no gimmicks,you could see how much this ment to them especially Lars he looked genuinely emotionally drained by the whole glastonbury experience.

We'll done boys you did yourselfs and heavy music proud and well done to the glastonbury crowd for joining in,feel very proud to be British and a metallica fan this weekend knowing the world was watching.

Can't wait to see Metallica at Knebworth next weekend got a feeling they are gonna be welcomed like returning heroes : )

Just watching some of it back. The singalong at the end of the The Memory Remains is brilliant. Was hard to tell down the front if the performance had got those further back involved or not but it seems it did which is good.

Nailed it! It was brilliant. Loved the opening and the set. Mostly loved seeing the reaction from the crowd after all the online bollocks. The doubters were made to very look foolish within seconds.

We were planked just in front of the disabled viewing platform right hand side on the hill (otherwise the wife just sees shoulders) The volume and sound quality was pretty decent.

I didn't really understand the video because does it mean Hetfield is no longer pro hunting or what? Seemed very strange to me and I was a bit pissed of because I was looking forward to Ecstacy of gold and it didn't seem the same. Also that 'Are you ready for GLASTALLICA' made me cringe bit that's probably just me.

In terms of the actual set I thought they nailed it and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The first two songs were genius. Am I right in thinking if they weren't so late they may have played battery and fuel?

But yeh as some one said the run of songs from one onwards was brilliant, was chuffed overall.

Loved the t-shirts with all the negative comments on. I was going to get my lad one but I don't think his mother would like him walking round in a t-shirt with "Metallica? Whoopie fucking do!" on the back.

Not a fan of Metallica but I happened to walk past and caught the last half hour and absolutely loved it. Their riffs' sounded much more bluesy and organic being pumped out live from the Pyramid.

Been watching the coverage today as I was too busy trying to forget Glastonbury over the weekend and I have to say that Metallica really did pull out all the stops and from the coverage it looks like their set was triumphant.

The one thing that I love, and the one thing that sways a performance at Glastonbury is whether or not the band actually gives a shit where they are and it looked like Metallica really did give a shit, it was great to see such a big band put in so much effort to please a crowd.
