They need to do something proper thrash next or I have the suspicion this may be a 'Metallilight' set :(

It was always going to be like this i thought. They want to appeal to a festival crowd that the large majority have never given metal a chance.

If they were too thrash i think people would say its to much of a noise. Theve got to reach a middle point i supose

It's early into the set I know but for me I'm disappointed.

People ask me at work tomorrow if that's what Metallica are like I will say no,they normally rock. This just isn't a fair representation for us fans who have followed them for decades. This isn't my Metallica.

Very very strange video they come on to

I've been reliably informed that Eli Wallach (sorry if the spelling is wrong) died very, very recently. So it may be a tribute to him. Also (I've been informed) the film is "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" which might make reference to their saying that all music should be allowed at Glastonbury. The fox hunting I guess (and I mean guess) is a reference to the Facebook stuff about one of them hunting bears, Michael Eavis' not disagreeing with the badger cull, something completely different.

I'm beginning to realise that:

- I may be not sober

- I may be treating you lot as my glasto-friends

and having that level of conversation with you.

In which case, thank you. It's been a pleasure knowing you. Wanna listen to a couple more before we go??

I'm not really a metal fan but like to think I have an open mind when it comes to music. After the bad press they got when announced I decided I was gonna give them a chance on the beeb tonight. So far, I must say I'm enjoying it. Great musicians individually and tight as a band. I may be watching a watered down version of their usual performance going by some of the previous comments but it's all I have to go on.

I wouldn't say it's watered down, just a different setlist that isn't thrash heavy. Certain fans just want them to play things that are over 20 years old and nothing else.

    • Crikey.   I remember Muse cancelling a Lolla headline set in 2017 due to a massive thunderstorm after only 3 songs. Clearly this is an area of the world where the storms don't f**k around.
    • I still think they might take another shot at the normal weekend.    I'm also pretty sure this exact same speculation was happening after the last one.
    • Meanwhile in Chicago. Rained overnight at Lolla. Now they pushed back opening til the afternoon. But thunderstorms and lightning forecast. Maybe if the city invested in proper drainage they couldve tried to salvage the day.
    • Wasn't just me who thought it was either oversold or inadequately setup for the event then? For Pride, over the weekend, where there's also acts in the large blue marquee that was to the right of the "arena" (for want of a better term), it's probably much better as people are dispersed more. Thought the band were great, as was Nick, though he was clearly struggling with his voice at times.
    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
