  1. This is a really important issue. The world is looking in disgust at a state which is currently killing women and children by the tens of thousands and weaponising the term 'antisemitism' to try to silence any principled criticism of it. It's incredibly depressing to see how effective this tactic has been - the world has been cowed in its criticism of Israel's barbarous acts for fear of being branded antisemite. Even on this forum, you can see the tactic working: the cowards that spend their lives in the political discussion section have long been falling over themselves to brand anyone who asks 'surely we can criticise the actions of a state without being called racist?' as racists. It's not just Paul Currie - there are many highly-principled, decent people who've been taken down by these false claims of antisemitism. One of the most outrageous is the Guardian's political cartoonist, Steve Bell, who for many years has been an outspoken critic of tyrants and butcherers, and someone who no sane person would ever accuse of racism. Yet, when the heat was applied, The Guardian backed down and sacked him. I'll support any pressure on Glastonbury to rethink this cowardly and wrong decision. It's tempting to just duck out of this debate for fear of also being called racist. The following video, which I've linked to before on here, explains why keeping quiet about this issue might give you an easy life, but is, in fact, just displaying cowardice in the face of the real right-wing bigots:

  5. I'm relatively new here, and this might make me unpopular, but here goes: As a left-wing Jew one concern I have about this year's Glastonbury is the likelihood that I'll be exposed to the combination of ignorance and antisemitism that has been allowed into the open, particularly on the British left, in the last six months. That's not to say that Israel's government, military, settlement policies etc etc don't deserve strong criticism and Palestinians strong support, and I am expecting to see both, but people have to be very careful with their language if they want to avoid causing offense. At Coachella for example towards the end of Young Fathers' set Graham Hastings shouted "Ceasefire now!" and "Free Palestine!". I don't really have an issue with that, but I'd say that ideally it should be something like: Ceasefire now - Free the hostages - Overthrow Hamas - Free Palestine. Hastings didn't say anything that suggests he supports Hamas or that he does not support innocent Israelis, but I did find the omissions curious (and I find the perception among some on the left that Hamas are defending the oppressed rather than another means of oppression completely bizarre). Really I think if someone with a significant public profile wants to state their opinion they should ideally make the effort to actually form one, something cohesive and suggestive of independent thought and genuine conviction, rather than just say a couple of random slogans. With Paul Currie, I think he clearly handled that moment poorly, but nothing I have read has remotely convinced me it demonstrated that he is an antisemite. I also have very profound issues with the Campaign Against Antisemitism's methodology. "We have contacted Paul Currie for comment", as they put it in their initial release about the incident, is nowhere near good enough, given the potential (and actual) impact of that release on Currie's career. There is real and rational fear of rising antisemitism in the British Jewish community, and while intending to protect them from the antisemitism the CAA also sometimes seem willing to weaponise the fear. Finally, I hope people avoid the temptation to make inflammatory and unnecessary comments, such as the one I've quoted above. It isn't necessarily antisemitic, but there was no need in the context of the rest of the post to make it at all and it seems, at best, wilfully provocative. Happy to discuss any of this either online or over a pint on the farm.

  6. I bought these in 2007 from Ian Gill Sculpture in The Greenfields. One is a stork and the other is an acorn leaf bird bath. My mum died in 2006 and my dad gave me her secret money stash he found in her purse. These both represent my mum, the stork being the carrier of babies and she carried me. And one of her sayings was "From Little Acorns, Mighty Oak Trees Grow". They always make me think of her even after all this time! 💗

  9. Not a lineup criticism at all - plenty on there I want to see - but it's always good to find more guitar based acts, as they're becoming increasingly rare. I really like Fontaines DC, PJ Harvey and Idles; and the new Bloc Party and Newdad albums seem potentially okay; maybe Yard Act and The Breeders qualify too. But does anyone have any recommendations of other bands or solo artists with those sorts of sounds? Would really appreciate some tips (I promise to be nice, even if it's something I wouldn't like). Many thanks! Mark P.S. Does anyone know why Drenge stopped doing stuff? A sad loss. First discovered at William's Green - also a sad loss.

  10. Hi all im sure many of you will have seen the maginificent paul currie perform over the years at the festival on the riser stages in theatre and circus Paul has been performing at glastonbury for 13 years and has just confirmed he has been blocked from performing this year and will not be able to appear. Paul makes no secret of his support for Palestine but he has been targeted by zionist groups trying to cancel him and ruin his career unjustly. Other than the contact form on the festival website, are there any email addresses for people / departments at the festival anyone could pass on to try and contact the organisers about this? it feels insane for Paul to have been falsely cancelled by both soho theatre and now the festival he has been performing at without issue for 13 years. I will be trying to contact the festival to express my disappointment and hopefully i can count on some of you to do the same? Paul’s instagram that explains more is here: https://www.instagram.com/paulcurriecomedian?igsh=Z21nNDRxZzl2Y2c0

  11. Great topic! I love my tambourine bought really cheap at one of the music traders. Need to add more ribbons etc though... Also, traders were fantastic with the kids last year. They are a great tool for bartering. One of the traders gave my two a little teeny tiny wooden turtle with a bobble head for free. They love it x

  13. My problem with them isn’t whether or not it’s tongue in cheek, ironic or whatever. I’m working class from Sheffield and grew up through the miners strike, so it ain’t a class issue either. They just sound dog awful and I wish they would shut the f**k up.

  17. You obviously did not see Rachel Reeves talking on BBC News when they said something very different to this. Still, carry on the blind belief as long as you are prepared to be disappointed and admit they were not the gold plated wonders you thought they were........................ I shall happily admit I was wrong when they do wonders and get their policy on this done by 2030 - which they have no chance of doing I am afraid.

  24. Yog, I don't like to see you getting so wound up fella... You will always get knobs trying to take advantage of situations but the reality is that the winners are people that are genuinely thrilled to be going to Glastonbury (even if they are not of this parish).. Whilst I have entered 2 or 3 of the online competitions, I have elected not to drive around Cambs in search of chocolate, cheese and beer.. I have put my faith in the resale team for the first time this year and if it doesn't happen on Sunday, I will stop chasing..

  25. its very do-able but something might catch you out, be prepared to quit if you have to. get your kid familiar with the music of an act you'll definitely see, they will enjoy bands more if they recognise what they're hearing (i think they then understand what the whole thing is about). my ex-neighbour took her two year old foster child that she'd only had for 3 months, i thought that was very brave of her. - if you think you'll take kid again in the future, remember that you don't have to squeeze everything in this year. - make sure you do some circus and cabaret as the kid is more likely to enjoy stuff that isn't music. keep it varied, when kid gets tired give them time to sleep, it'll make your life easier. dealing with a tired kid is the worst thing. above all, remember to have fun and enjoy it. 🙂

For further context, there's a long post halfway down this thread from someone who was there at the time https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=105718.60#quickreply_anchor As noted elsewhere Currie can be aggressive to audience members and seems to have some other sketchy behaviours, but I dont think this is something they should lose their livelihood over.

  32. Why is he not saying anything about the hundreds of thousands of empty derelict properties? If any politician really wanted to sort housing htye would get those renovated first and then look at what is still needed. Locally there are more of them needing renovation thatn the plans for 'urgent' housebuilding to meet peoples needs. A few years ago a government survey showed (it is on ONS website somewhere) that there are enough empty buildings to more than meet the UK's housing needs - so why are they still mostly empty and why do politicians not talk about them? PS the answer is that house building grows GDP better than renovation so the later is deemed unimportant. That way we end up with loads of new housing, mostly lacking facilities like scools and GP's and hundreds of thousnads of of empty buildings rotting slowly. A good PM would sort that out. Will Starmer?

  39. So a few years back in the pyramid field I was approached by a couple of people had taken their friends to the festival in Lego form as they were unable to make it that year . They took a photo of their friends on the pyramid stage (hat ) and seemed delighted about it . I thought it lovely at the time and is a memory for me and hopefully them too . Hopefully in some way a keepsake but maybe not in a physical form

  45. No worries. Yeah that old school rave vibe was a few years ago to be fair and I was pretty trashed lol, but I always think they should play that sort of music in the woods area. You'll defo find something good to keep you occupied until the small hours.

  46. There are always some good late night music options and you are right it is a lot easier to navigate compared to the logistical and stamina challenges of Glasto after hours. If you are into House/D&B/Techno then you are likely to find an option each night after hours...but probably not to expect that there are lot's of different options every night like Glasto where you are spoilt for choice. Your best bet is probably going to be the sunrise arena, seen some really good people there, that is where you are most likely going to see "proper" electronic music. The other late night stuff is probably going to be a bit cheesy for your tastes I reckon (The comedy tent is usually Guilty pleasures, Ultimate Power type things, the woods usually has a mix of stuff but again pretty mainstream mix of stuff, disco shed is pretty random). Good fun.... but it isn't "cutting edge". Also, to set your expectations it doesn't go as late as Glasto, more like 03:00am I think for the main late night areas miiiight be some stuff that is a bit later but I've not done that late. The crowd is sometimes a bit...Latitude....which is to say, you might wonder whether the majority of the audience have ever been to a proper nightclub before. Last year there was a lot of people doing an "oot oot" chant in the tent which got really annoying really quickly. I do want this to come across as balanced because I have had some fantastic nights with friends at Latitude to dance music + it can feel like an old school rave in the woods if the music, weather and crowd is right.
