I don’t condone what he did at all but if you use that word so casually you minimise the experience of people who have actually been raped.

I am absolutely not minimising it at all. There were serious allegations against him.

We don't need people like that playing primavera, there are plenty other acts who haven't done atrocious things

Yes but the serious allegations were not of rape.

They have booked other people similarly accused like Michael Gira and had a Bowie tribute act.

It's complicated.

The Cure will be there, I learned last night. So will be The xx, Gorillaz, Lorde and Lola Young.

I expected Lorde as well but that's honking top line. To be honest after Coachella I kinda expected The XX too.

This would definitely rule out Radiohead. Pretty sure the source would have been eager to mention them!

I have to say, I want to like the XX but live they have been boring the hell out of me for years. And have been playing at the forum on and off for 16 years...

Definitely, not getting The Cure and Radiohead and it's certainly one is doing summer festivals and one may not be at all.

I don't understand, why does everyone here consider official what is just a rumor ?

Indeed, being sceptical is the right approach. It gets a bit annoying when most posts start with "Now that X is nailed/official...".

I'm not sure this can be compared with Michael Gira. I'll let people read the latest on that one incident... And a tribute band, well come on, that's not an Arcade Fire tribute act we're talking about.

Look, if they did do it then these are both actual rape cases - Gira of Swans and Bowie (who was covered by Seu Jorge at PS in 2017)) that pre-dated the bookings.

As awful as the allegations against Butler are, they aren’t of rape.

Coachella's average lineup has sold out instantly.

So with FOMO and an early release, even with an average lineup can expect the same for Primavera (or at least it to sell out at some point).

It‘s really interesting (and annoying, to a certain degree), how ticket sales for big artists/festivals have developed in recent years. Coachella, Primavera, Taylor Swift, Oasis, Bad Bunny, Radiohead.. everythings sells out almost in an instant. Fear of missing out on concerts (which means content on one hand, and „real emotions“) I guess) really is a thing.

Tells you a lot really when Lady Gaga and Green Day were two acts on this years lineup and I dont think week two ever sold out. Obviously it's not all aboit the headliners but it helps when its costing you that much there now. Sabrina, Bieber and Karol G isn't good. Does Bieber even have new material or has he been booked again to show some empathy for the Diddy situation. Either way, I dont think that's a bad booking to make in that case.

I was next to people from Portland I believe in the states for Green Day and they said people in the states don't care about Green Day as much. I'd have bitten your hand off going to any festival with Green Day and Gaga as two of your headliners. It's quite mad to think add in Post Malone and that doesn't sell out.

I'm no fan but to answer your question on whether Bieber is being booked because of the Diddy situation - he did release a new album which was his first in 5 years and AFAIK it was pretty well received. So he is probably still a big booking for a certain type of attendee.

Average?

If Primavera releases a lineup with Nine Inch Nails, a reunited The XX, David Byrne, The Strokes, FKA twigs, Clipse, Turnstile, Iggy Pop, Little Simz, Ethen Cain, Interpol and Alex G ... people would rave.

That's fair. I just saw the album.

Yes but Primavera also books headliners that sub other festivals including all 3 last year. The difference between Primavera and Coachella in size isn't comparable. Also, it's not NIN, it's the members doing something different.

Agreed. I think people underrate this lineup because it seems to have a bit of everything, rather than being tailored to a specific taste and many of us here wouldn't be interested in the headliners. I'd skip all 3 headliners but each day has plenty I'd like to see.
