Oxfam deadline for cancellations was yesterday so any returns are likely to be released soon so make sure he has an account set up and check out oxfam festivals social media pages and the festivals account pages daily as they might announce it this week. Last year they were released in a 2nd batch in first week in May with a few odd ones later. https://festivals.oxfam.org.uk

Yep and we'll all be putting stuff in this thread when we see it

Probably a daft question, but when I log in all the sold out ones are greyed out, Glastonbury is greyed out and says signed up next to it. Will it stay greyed out if other slots do come available cos I'm signed up? Been nagging my sister to give it a go.. May just be a case of refreshing this thread every five minutes for the next 6 weeks.

I think it'll stay greyed out, the same as if you have a date clash with a pre booked event.

Your sister will need to create an account and it will currently say sold out. If/when places because available she's be able to sign up then

Our of curiosity is that something you'll be able to do easily from waiting lists your org/charity has?

We managed a few of those requested from our waiting list yes - the problem is we started as a new team last year, and a few just dropped out after doing it saying it's not for them. So we still had to get others onboard.
It's similar to how our team started last year, was all very last minute post ticket resale day - have to get a bunch of courses and training done as well as all the shift rotas (and the inevitable swaps).

It also means those new starters didn't get a look in at things like the camper/caravan slots as they will have all been snapped up by now.

Thanks! I think volunteer opportunities like yours are probably the best way to get in volunteering right now. It's just finding they connection to start with that's hard as it's all word of mouth.

Yep, just had that lovely email come through after recently getting a spot with them. Devastated!

So they confirmed you had a place and then emailed you to say you didn't?

That's a pretty poor show.  I'm sorry that's happened to you 😞

Yep. Only joined the WhatsApp group this morning and now about half of the people on there have had their spots cancelled.

One person had an Oxfam place too which they only just cancelled yesterday. How gutting must it be to suddenly go from having 2 spots to suddenly having nothing.

Not a great first Glastonbury impression for MyCauseUK.

Just saw something on Facebook about this

Sorry to hear this @broken monkey and anyone else it's happened to.

I suspect this is a festival decision and beyond My Cause

Yeah, almost certainly. But they're the front line and so are the ones who will take the flack.

I know that sometimes Oxfam have had numbers changed on them (both up and down) after they've recruited - but that they have a much larger number to start with and enough people predictably cancel that they could absorb it without taking away anyones place.

Oh, I'm sure its out of their control and they've done everything they can to avoid this. Just wonder if it will put people off from applying with them in the future if you feel your place isn't guaranteed, even after being confirmed.

I also suspect that the festival could work with other organisations to get them to bring on the My Cause volunteers with any spares they might have, but won't.

Poor show by MyCause, I don't think they should have been taking those roles anyway personally and am not a fan of their business model anyway.

Pretty gutting to be put out of the loop by them after the resale too!

why would GFL change the number of tickets at sucha late stage?

would it down to a screw up?

It's more that they'd be changing the number of positions being covered, or the times that they were. Or changing the balance of those positions between how much is done paid staff and how much by volunteers.

Any number of possible reasons why that could occur, especially when it's not something that's "settled".

The number of tickets/places is a knock on from that.

it's a bit unfair to have the allocated ticket numbers not settled,

especially since they're getting people to commit to the various charities/ groups

either that or the various groups need to be more honest to people about the fact it's not a guarenteed place
