Did you get sorted in the end?

 

I was one of the people in “Staff Long Term”. No blagging required. I turned up where we were supposed to go and got turned away because Avalon “hadn’t paid/arranged for staff parking.” I was completely surprised where I ended up. Have to admit though I was pretty pleased.

 

Not annoyed as I have no expectation of being that lucky again. Will miss being right outside gate C. Will not miss the sound from the SE corner,

Still waiting to hear. The fact that they're moving the camp site might make some of the issues I have a bit moot now.

 

I was told by email to enter via purple gate last year, so ended up in purple car parks. I think people that were in the long term parking had the sense to enter via blue gate.

Yeah, I had the email and I arrived at the purple gate at about 10am. They turned me around and sent me to blue. I had no idea that I would end up where I did, but I was very happy when I realized.

 

Fingers crossed it gets sorted for you.

Don’t give up. I’m one of the people to get an Oxfam place a week before the festival. My nephew got his on the Friday and we travelled down on the Monday.

They might be waiting to work out shift patterns and they also have a new system for accessibility reasonable adjustments so maybe that’s changed. Or they may have less places or all places filled. Could be a last minute thing but cancellation deadline was 2weeks ago and maybe not many cancellations?

I don't think there's a precedent for that... never heard of Oxfam having numbers reduced, only increased.

Definitely has happened before at least once that I was aware of, I want to say 2016 or 2019 (definitely not 2017 as numbers were increased that year) but could have been earlier. It was a number they could absorb so didn't result in the cancellation of any places. Less certain on this but I believe that wasn't the first time though again we're talking small fluctuations that don't cause a ripple.

 

I'm half wondering whether they're holding places to eventually offer them to people cut by MyCause - it's something I'd look at if I was making the decision, but have no idea on the practicality or logistics of doing that.

Thanks for the encouragement! I was fortunate enough to secure work in 2019 the Monday before the festival started (not with Oxfam, but still) so I'm not giving up hope just yet!

Yes, I did wonder about MyCause but thought it unlikely Oxfam would deal with MyCauses problem inter agency. Unless word has got to Emily and she decided to step in. 
 

Oxfam definitely haven’t had to cancel confirmed people like that before!

Wouldn't even need to be from the perspective of dealing with someone elses problem - purely from the Oxfam side it'd be an opportunity for some good PR (albeit within a niche) and to fill the places without having to create another scrum leaving other people disappointed.

Hello fellow volunteers. I'm very proud to be a first time volunteer with the Recycling Crew this year.

 

Does anyone have some advice for a newb regarding arriving Wednesday late AM and how likely the RC campsites are to be full? What would happen in those circumstances?

 

Planning on taking a smallish 2/3 man tent as I'll be onsite 10 days total (post fest cleanup team).

Hi and well done for getting a spot with the recycling crew. 

 

If they follow the same approach as last year all the post festival crew will be camping in Brimley Orchard (next door to Toms Field where Wateraid used to be) so I don't imagine you'll have any issues with a smallish tent as would imagine some post festival people will be arriving on the Wednesday as well. 

 

I think as well you won't join the queue when you arrive of regular ticket holders and go down the staff lane.

Are you using the mobile app or the desktop app? From memory the mobile app doesn't work very well so use the desktop app and you can open the web page and log in to you account when setting up the alert.

Was going to say that the train will be open and accessible as Shangri-la crew bar on Mon and Tues, but then I remembered the area might be changing and the train might not even be there anymore! 🙂

Do you know where we get to park? The website says something about parking close to the campsite, but elsewhere mentions Purple car park.

It will be purple to start with mate but when punters have headed home Monday and Tuesday you can sometimes move your car to the parking field literally the other side of the lane from Tom's Field and Brimley.

 

It's a real bonus for loading the car when heading home. 

 

I'm also doing ten day's on site this year but arriving the Friday before

So I just got offered a spot volunteering on the Love The Farm crew. Had to turn it down as I am away until the Wednesday and they needed me to start on the Monday. A bit gutted, but as I'm seeing Springsteen in Spain on the Tuesday night, there was no way I was cancelling that.

How did you apply for that one? Not heard of that as a voluteering opportunity before.

What does Love The Farm work entail? I haven't heard of it before either so am curious about it and wondering if they're still open to new applicants as someone who's original volunteering position fell through...
