Not as dull as the brigade who try to cancel all conversations about rumours because their source of choice demands certain acts are locked in. They’d have us demand to keep our mouths shut about anybody who’d challenge Neil Young.

You're criticising something that doesn't exist.

Nobody who brought the “rumours” to the table cancelled other discussion - they merely supplied what the current status was, what they heard, providing information for the discussion.

And while yes I exaggerated, clearly, it isn’t far from the truth.

If people don’t want to speculate on headliners, or talk on the supposed rumours, why don’t they just stay out of the thread until anything is announced? They are literally the only ones that whinge when otherwise conversation flows.

Once again the thread gets derailed by people being smug that a rumour, that was proved correct, isn’t panning out to the final poster.

That’s not quite true. Most people fit your description but there are one or two people, who I won’t name, who positively basked in their supposed info and derided anybody who so much as dared to question whether it was true. They know who they are and it teaches us all to remember that while things seem official at a place in time and then become undone, it’s foolish to resolutely stand behind anything unofficial. This isn’t complicated.

Rumours and speculation are fun and all part of the cycle. Chastising people because you believe your source renders anybody who disagrees ridiculous is against the spirit of the entire thing.

The “you can’t discuss headliners until their feet are physically on the stage and they’re four songs deep” brigade are incredibly dull at this point.

I don't think anyone has said that, let alone a brigade of people.  But call a rumour a rumour please.

This is what I can’t get over. She’d be great but don’t think she’s got the appeal people think.

Lido is 25,000 and not sold out. Yes she had the O2 just before, but Fontaines sold out 45,000 tickets at Finsbury at a similar ticket price and had multiple nights at Ally Pally around the same time.

I'm not certain Lido is 25k honestly

Sabrina Carpenter with her sold out BST date at £100+ a pop should be getting the bump up first logically

Reckon more or less? I know the initial licence said maximum 32,500 - but also read they weren’t going for that limit in year one.

Sabrina would be a big get, what’s the latest thinking on her at Glasto?

Didn't the Neil Young chat come from the same sources that said The 1975 were in for Fred again. and Olivia Rodrigo was on the Sunday?

Not sure if that makes be believe or doubt 1975 and O-Rod more or less. Clearly a reliable source, but someone jumped the gun and no reason why the 1975 could turn out to be wrong. Still not sure I'm willing to be against O-Rod though, seems so very nailed on.

They will surely want at least 1 major act that appeals to all ages that is well known with a great back catalogue that can get the whole field singing along and won’t look too sh*t on tv. Last few years have had Macca, Elton and Coldplay. I don’t count 1975 or Olivia Rodrigo in that company least of all Charli XCX or Sabrina Carpenter- none of whom I could tell you what any of their songs are or sing along to - I’ve listened to Brat and was not particularly impressed to listen again. Have no idea of any of O-Rods and whilst I have seen 1975 at Glastonbury am not sure I can tell you much about it. To be fair I mainly listen to 6music and don’t do Spotify or anything so maybe not in tune with the current pop stuff. Taylor Swift on the other hand - I have all her albums 😀

i did see Neil Young in 2009- he was great that year but I wouldn’t have gone to see him again next year particularly.
there a few options left if they haven’t already been exploring them. Am hoping Emily gets her little black book out and calls in a favour 😀

The info was true as has been proven by Neil young himself 😇

Except that guy who mocked the idea that nothing is official until it’s contractually locked, because… guess what happened.

Actually you keep saying ‘nothings official till the festival announces’ which is a different thing from until contracts are signed. You’re conflating the two different things repeatedly.

I think a bit more. Either way should be selling it out

As others have said - Neil Young is nowhere near as all ages as the 3 acts you mention. Not a single person in my group gives a sh*t about him (23 y/o).

The three acts you mentioned are three of the biggest possible bookings though - guess we will see what happens

For it to be locked, as you went out of your way to be outraged about, signatures would have to be signed. We now know they weren’t. I don’t know why you choose to die on this hill. Just accept there was info that seemed good but wasn’t good enough. What’s the big deal?

You’re missing the point of the headliners thread. It’s all good.

I promise you I'm not the only one bored to death of the same handful of people coming in to say EXACTLY the same thing.

I'm not missing the point of anything. It's a headliners thread about a festival whose headliners haven't been announced yet, so people come here to enjoy speculating. It's beyond tiring to have the same smug posts from both sides.

Can't we set up a new thread where the usual suspects can hash it out over sources, what's confirmed, what isn't, so those of us who want to avoid it can stay out?

They can do better than Pulp I think but I certainly wouldn't be complaining.

Some doubt they are big enough but I would argue this:

Blur - a very similar act did 2 wembley dates as an exclusive (1 sold pretty poorly, the other sold out).

Pulp didn't do any shows this large but did absolutely heaps of them across medium sized fests, including Finsbury Park which sold out and tons of other stuff.

Its a case of spreading wide and doing paydays or like Blur did, doing fewer small shows to maintain size status (similar to how The Strokes do for instance in the UK).

Think people would be pretty chuffed as well, clearly here would be!

I think my problem is this - they're a medium fest sized act nowadays. I'd be very underwhelmed glasto was sharing headliners with the likes of Tramlines.

Cap. 32K compared to APE (maximum theoretical) cap. 45K

Back to the original point, I wonder why AEG Presents would sign XCX for Lido and not APE, if it's such a hot ticket

Hold on... people previously posted 'locked' information before it was locked and you expect no one to mention that?  On the headliners thread, when it's been confirmed it only was at the early discussion (rumour) stage? haha

From a commercial perspective, I don't think Emily would like to have 2 consecutive years of criticism towards a line up or headliners. Ticket prices are ever rising, and expectations are higher than ever. I don't think the popularity of the festival will ever diminish but that sort of scrutinty would rather be avoided.

The only time, in my opinion, should you promote from below is if someone cancels last minute a la Foos in 2015, and/or you've been able to get someone booked as sub who have taken a slot below their usual festival standings (Paramore as a possible example this year). There's enough time to speak to acts now, and speak to someone who sets Glasto apart from the rest of the festivals in UK/Europe, which was always the case 10 or so years ago.

A line up of O-Rod, 1975, Muse/Pulp/Charli XCX/Sam Fender heck even Paramore, is a weak trio I think, and doesn't stand out from any festival across Europe. Purely because its missing the name that Glasto used to get and would raise eyebrows (Stones, Elton John, Radiohead, Adele).

    • So, what would the weather have been like at this year's festival?   It's been shambolic around here, the rain is soul destroying and showing no sign of letting up, bar odd sporadic days here and there. Disgraceful for June.   What's it like down there? Have we had a lucky escape?...

    • belated thanks for this ended up going, was a good evening and a great venue with a cracking beer selection (give the festival a few tips on that). Never been in before despite reasonably local.       Main takeaways from the film (as someone who didnt go for much later). The festival has changes a lot since then apart from the Green Fields that looked the exact same.  Me and my mate both agreed that Shambala is today than Glastonbury.   Cool piece of merch aswell.
