How does Chappell have "zeitgeist" but Sabrina does not?

I, for one, hope that we don't get all Primavera headliners in high Pyramid (headlining) spots.

Because Sabrina is just unremarkable Disney machine pop, but Chappell feels like she could be a generational voice.

At the end of the day they are both variations of pop music (who have even collaborated). Seems way too early to suggest one will have crazy staying power over the other.

Speaking of 20th anniversaries; Demon Days came out in 2005 and obviously nothing has been announced for this (probably just re-releases) but what about Gorillaz for a headliner?

They were meant to play dates in NA in 2023 but cancelled, could see them being around for something?

A degree of interest to mull - how many other artists would be ruled out by the BBC must-show-in-full clause that is (seemingly) the stumbling block for Neil Young?

If that was a clause stuck in during the pandemic, might figure that Taylor Swift could have balked at that, for example.

Think a plethora of your American mega-pop acts - Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna - would also balk at the request, along with a few of the older rock acts. Not sure Springsteen would consent to a full show, for example - or at the very least, Jon Landau would be issuing big compensation demands for it.

Pretty sure Jarvis didn’t allow a second of Pulps magnificent set at Trnsmt to be shown on bbc couple of years back. From memory, bbc were including Pulp in the tv promo stuff but then nothing was shown.

It was a victory lap that wasnt totally needed and it sold like crap. People would be happier if it was just Blur again. So would Damon play savior again like they did with U2 in 2010?

One thing though. Will Glasto Hq just give us total radio silence til March now when its all supposed to drop. If thats gonna be the new thing then maybe just tell us and it stops giving people any thought about an announcement coming. Because just for optics and morale an announcement is seen as a positive thing. No announcements means theres issues to a degree.

It's taken Sabrina Carpenter 6 albums to achieve the same hype that Chappell has achieved with just one...

We see you, over there on the internet....

Of course Chappell's main collaborator is Dan Nigro, who's also the producer on the work of Olivia Rodrigo, who happens to have come up the same way as Sab Carp.

They're all doing different things and all of them are good.  Carp's Xmas special tees her up to be more like a slightly bawdier Dolly Parton.

How so?

He sold all the rights to his music a few years ago - he doesn't need the money or the exposure.

How has this decision adversely impacted him? It follows the pattern of his entire career, if anything it reinforces the fact that he sticks to his beliefs and maintains integrity.

By taking it public. He's got no reason I can figure other than disappointment and frustration to wish to air those grievances - otherwise, why stick the laundry on the line?

We can interpret him as sticking to his status as an "outspoken" performer, but the whole phrasing of his intent just makes him seem like a bit of a sore individual. "Corporate", you say, Neil? Was Desert Trip a not-for-profit knees-up then?

I completely get not wanting any of his set broadcast, but unless he was given assurances before even getting to the stage of negotiations where you want to go public and say you "pulled out", then somebody has either sold him a duffer on the promotional side or he's not read the fine print himself.

Emily Eavis wasn't exactly going to come out in The Guardian next week without this and say "Oh, we tried to get Neil Young but the git backed out because we wanted to show his tunes on the telly", is she?

Good on Neil for sticking to those beliefs for control of his live product - which, having sold his music rights, may be all he has? - but it just didn't feel necessary.

A friend suggested he's going to announce his tour next week and that this may have been a ploy to get a few column inches and online chatter to going to juice sales. (I disagree with that idea personally, but not one to be discounted.)

Sorry @judyblue110, that's a bit snappish from me. Had a rotten night of sleep and feeling a bit grouchy this morning.

Also headed into a fallow year … don’t know if that gets amplified or forgotten about . Hoping for something out the blue as curently unusually for me I doubt I’ll be at the pointy one headliner time which is a shame as I love it

Is it time to make West Holts and Other hats?

A collaborator, effectively a producer, not a writer. Chappell had most of her songs in this album done before she met him. If you're giving him all the credit, then I hereby give the National, Bon Iver and Jack Antonoff all the credit for making Taylor the biggest artist on the planet.

Not at all. Just pointing out that all three are swimming in the same waters - at least from a career point of view.  As has been pointed out Sabrina and Chappell released a collaboration just a few weeks back.

Nothing wrong with preferring one to another of course - or liking all three of them

Have considered that over the last few years but there is nothing quite as iconic as the pyramid and I’ve started this years designs so will likely end it with the best theme possible with an  eavis theme . If I do decide to come back after the fallow I’ll probably do something a bit different if not that’s a decent way to end it

Yeah Charli on pyramid is a poor shout. Surely Sam Fender, Muse & Sabrina Carpenter will be on the phone prior to Charli. Even Billie Eilish who is clearly big enough and around.

Billie played far too recently. No way is she back so soon - not even been a fallow year since she did it.

Sabrina is crap. Really, really crap.

Hype is bonkers. Also, no way has she got enough for a headline set. Neither does Charli either.

Just because you can do something for 90 minutes doesn't mean it's any good. Kendrick could have played for 2.5h and been fine. Stormzy couldn't. Stormzy was a decent show that had zeitgeist.

Sabrina doesn't have that. Chappell does. There's your equality. Chappell would sh*t on Sabrina from a high height.

Also, I presume you're alluding to Sam Fender. He wasn't booked.

Chappell with her one album has enough but Charli doesn't? She's had radio hits here for over 10 years.

I don't think either is a headliner but if Chappell has enough - Charli definitely does. She is going to kill it on Other.

Agree Sabrina is crap

Say you wanted to request odds on an act headlining Glastonbury - Hyperthetically of course - where would be the best place to request them?

Odds ended months ago - doubt anyone will let you bet now

All the companies that seem to allow request odds on custom bets seem to want to make you do it via twitter/X - anyone know bookies that let you do it without having twitter?

Id rather not do it than sign up for X

Sky bet no longer seem to let you request custom odds unless im looking in the wrong place?

Nothing wrong with liking em all, but Chappell is a class above and more unique. Chat about Sabrina headlining is mad. You may point out Primavera, but that is still mad and maybe "completing a set".

Olivia was also a Disney star. Soooooooo what about her lol

Olivia has two superbly crafted, well written and produced albums with some great songs on there to boot.

That's one of the major differences I'd say

Do others agree  that the festival has a great opportunity here to replace NY with a much better (more suited) headliner. The questions here are if they have the will or money to do so. Its easier to bump someone up when you're already sold out for example......... SZA last year or fill with a regular such as Muse, so effectively Emily would have to Want the hassle of finding a replacement.

I am a fan of Neil Youngs music but in honesty i think it was not a great choice to headline the festival. I saw him last time he headlined ( i was in the field) and although it was great for me - a lot of people didn't hang around.

I know it would be a last chance to see a legend headline but in terms of singalong hits, unfortunately he's no Elton or McCartney or arguably even Stevie wonder or Billy Joel for that matter.

I don't think Chappell should headline either. I was saying she was in better shape than Sabrina, even with only one album. I think Charli will do great on Other, but for the Pointo? Nah not for me, with 1975 and O-Rod as others. Think she would have done fine with a McCartney and another big one.

What you have to remember is that 90% of artists who are at the big stages could put on a show at the Pyramid to those who turn up and are psyched. However, they won't necessarily generate the buzz that Glasto wants. Weirdly, Charli would  given the brat chat, but I don’t think we should start handing out headline slots for gimmicks.

    • So, what would the weather have been like at this year's festival?   It's been shambolic around here, the rain is soul destroying and showing no sign of letting up, bar odd sporadic days here and there. Disgraceful for June.   What's it like down there? Have we had a lucky escape?...

    • belated thanks for this ended up going, was a good evening and a great venue with a cracking beer selection (give the festival a few tips on that). Never been in before despite reasonably local.       Main takeaways from the film (as someone who didnt go for much later). The festival has changes a lot since then apart from the Green Fields that looked the exact same.  Me and my mate both agreed that Shambala is today than Glastonbury.   Cool piece of merch aswell.
