Not angry bud. Apologies if it felt like that ha. I'll meet ya half way - would much rather her on the top line than the current proposed 3. Just feel Other is more suited.

I’m with you on this. She has seemed more culturally relevant over the last year than Fender too.

I struggle to understand why SZA didn't meet expectations with the Pyramid. Last year at Primavera Sound, there were more people watching her than Pulp. 

 

Anyway, Charli feels like a sub to me or headlining the Other. Maybe it's just because I've seen her so many times in recent years.

A combination of a few factors. Being on the Sunday doesn't help, especially when England are playing that day in a knock out game and Glasto isn't showing it. Her fans were unable to buy tickets (part of the glasto charm but not helpful for a more niche headliner), the rest of the lineup leading up to her weren't inspiring people to stay. Despite the attempts to make the festival more diverse, the crowd is still mostly white and guitar bands will be more popular headliners than R&B, rap etc. Add it all together and you get a very small crowd.

I think she currently is carrying a lot of critical and pop clout, but she's also released into a period where neither artist is active. Heck, the only thing The 1975 have done is be on her remix album, and that's because she's getting married to the drummer.

Indeed, I've got a feeling that Adele announced her Wembley run on the back of the Glastonbury performance.

I agree they were big enough. But 2023 is the only time I can think of where there’s no debate because the three headliners literally detoured in the middle of their stadium tour to play Glastonbury.

 2016 and 2023 the biggest trio of headliners in the last decade for me. No argument brokered there.

2017 was unbelievably massive all around whereas Elton was doing a lot of the heavy lifting in 2023. 
 

2011 still the most outrageous ‘how did they pull all of them together in one year’ bill in the fest’s history, tho. Regardless of the fact U2 were supposed to be there the year before.

I know it’s not last decade but 2011 is the other one that looks monumentally

huge. By my reckoning the only year of three headliners that have also done the SuperBowl.

Still played stadiums and headlined festivals. So they could do a job, even if I agree a 4th time doing Glastonbury as a Pyramid headliner isn't really as exciting as a first time head.

 

I still feel like they're a Plan B or C if something else doesn't happen though. Although I'm assuming the rumour they turned down Download Festival but are still planning to tour Europe hints they are up to something.

If U2 hadn’t postponed then 2010 would take the crown. Bookers were on one that year.

As a trio, yeah, U2-Coldplay-Beyonce is the kind of bill stadiums would like to have. Even if I still am puzzled why U2 decided to plonk Glastonbury in the middle of a US leg of their 360 Tour and just fly Maryland to Somerset to Michigan. It just sounds like a great way to exhaust yourself and the fact they were all out of sync with each other for the opening song feels like the kind of mistake you make with such jetlag.

 

Speaking of U2, meanwhile, Adam Clayton said the following about their plans on an Italian radio station:

"We’re doing some more work this month, at the end of November, and in the beginning of December we going to be back in the studio. I think by the middle of next year, we’ll have a very good idea of how many songs we have to finish, and when we want to release it. And then a tour will follow on from that."

 

So I think this feels more likely of U2 being active on the road in 2026 rather than being a possibility this year. At one point I saw an account claiming U2 were going to be at Glastonbury this year, but the possibility seems to be receding.

Just honouring their commitment innit. A lot of acts wouldn’t bother so I’ve always respected them for that, regardless of my feelings about Bono in general.

 

2013 also felt massive at the time and only doesn’t look so strong in retrospect because of the Mumfords fall off.

Basically only their doomed flirtations with Prince and Dave Grohl’s broken leg that prevented an unbroken run from 2010 through to 2017 that would’ve been the envy of the world.
