Of all the festival line ups I've see this year so far, think this one takes the win.

Definitely get where Matt42 is coming from.

It feels a bit of a cop out adding Lizzo to the top line. If they really wanted a female headliner then I think Lana is the one that makes sense for the bump up. I don’t think a top line of one of AM or GnR/Lana/Elton would look particularly weak.

But obviously she isn’t as big as Guns n Roses and if you can get them both on the line up then that’s even better. I think it would have been better to just have had AM/GnR/Elton billed as the headliners and promote the 50/50 split across the line up which is itself impressive!!

This is what they've done.  Lizzo may be in the top line of the poster but it's still GnR headlining that night.

Ohhh, then ignore me! For some reason, I thought I’d read it was billed almost as a 4th headliner.

Although tbf we’ve also had the legend slot billed as that, so doesn’t really matter.

Long story short, I’m talking rubbish on a Friday morning instead of working

The Guardian muddied the waters a bit by talking about co-billing, but the festival announced AM and GnR as headliners

I think it's an interesting point. I don't think the "backlash" as it were would be any worse if she was headlining than if GnR were. Just over a different thing. "She's not big enough" versus "why is it all men?"

Perhaps, but one argument actually has something to do with music, the other one doesn't. Besides GnR are a more diverse act anyway.

Plus the festival have outright said money is tight - I can see why we'd want the stronger line-up but it's actually interesting to question why the festival didn't just figure they could get away with it. Especially as it'd be known she was a last minute replacement with the whole Taylor thing.

As pointed out, thinking like this would be their downfall. Plus Emily supposedly likes GnR alot.

They put Janet Jackson on the top line as well, and nobody other than Janet Jackson thought she was a headliner.

Maybe, the festival survived Florence alright though.

Different circumstances, Florence was a last minute bump up rather than the originally announced headliner

I thought Janet Jackson (or at least her people) put herself on the top line

The festival put five acts on the top line - the 3 headliners, Kylie, and Janet in that order.

Janet / her people switched the order to put herself first.

And the festival would survive a Lana as well, but do something like that again the following year since you're getting complacent, couple that with another inevitable price hike and a potential wet one, and it quickly becomes a slippery slope.

They seem to be well aware of that though, and as long as it stays that way the festival will continue to sell out in 30 or so minutes.

Fair enough, knew there'd been some chicanery but was misremembering what it was

Wasn’t there also a random account that came out of nowhere that was a massive Janet Jackson fan as well?

I remember that guy/bot/whatever.  Popped up to constantly spout stats about how huge she was in the US and asserting that she must be a headliner.  Then disappeared.  Very odd.
