Any more on the rumours of more area’s going into tier 4?

Vallance indicated that many areas will be heading into tier 4 after Christmas.

Anyway, what's next on the vaccine front? Does anyone know of a site that gives a good rundown on our preorders?

Specifically, are there any vaccines we might get before the Moderna one? If there is supply and we're not at the back of the queue I'm hoping there might be another one we can get going with in January or February?

Being a long time admirer of Kunt (nee Kunt and the Gang - check out his older stuff on Youtube), I have to admit I'm finding his latter day success incredibly amusing.

Come on Kunt!

Think I first became aware of him with Use my Arsehole as a c**t, which apparently got to number 66!

I've seen him a few times back in the day, gloriously puerile stuff. New one is catchy!

The 1 dose regiment of Janssen (30 million ordered) is expected to report in January and potentially file for approval in February.

Novavax (60 million ordered) should be about 3-4 weeks behind them.

A month or so back, Janssen did start a second trial on a 2-dose regiment which should report around Easter.

While I don't know delivery timescales, or manufacturing capacity, we should be near the front of the queue for both, especially Novavax which I think we were the first to order and has UK manufacturing capability.

Beyond that, there's nothing worth talking about - the other orders we have are for Valneva which is still in early stages and GSK/Sanofi which has gone back to the drawing board after their Phase 1 trial didn't get the results they hoped for.

J&J expect to unblind towards the end of January (for the one shot regimen, 2 shot regimen still enrolling participants)...Novavax expect to unblind towards the end of March...that probably gives J&J a chance of approval before the Moderna shots are available in the UK (April maybe? Depends on how Lonza get on making them in Switzerland really)...Oxford of course would make the biggest difference. Who knows, the Russian or Chinese ones could try submitting data to the MHRA! (Though the UK doesn’t have any orders for those, but the interim phase 3 data is there for the Russian vaccine)...

need to lock the whole country down really.

They need to do something, I fear if they wait for this time next week (when Christmas is over) it might be too late.

To be honest, Russia kind of shot themselves in the foot by jumping the gun with emergency use authorisation in Russia after only 78 participants...it made the scientific community skeptical. But, there’s actually some important things about that one. First, it’s an adenoviral vaccine like the Oxford one, but a human version (two different ones for each shot to avoid immune destruction of the second shot). The immune response wasn’t off the charts in their first paper, but their phase 3 interim data is as good as the Oxford data, and it gave 100% protection from severe disease (20 v 0). Safety profile looks the same too...but, they also gave a freeze dried version and it looks almost as good, making shipping a whole lot easier. Maybe their collaboration with Oxford will regain some trust.

It's clever that they seemed to have preempted the Achilles heel of the Oxford vaccine. Was it something that the Oxford lot had considered? Or did they think they were pretty likely to be safe because they used a chimp virus?
