Still doesn't sound like all restrictions removed for 4th July - smaller gatherings only. Makes our 21st June look, again, a little less realistic than we might hope

It's a state thing. Texas have already dropped all restrictions for example. Biden can't direct that aspect of things.

The difference is Rory Stewart wasn’t being advised by the Chief Scientific Advisor to wait until spread was accelerating before locking down rather than lock down early to stop spread happening at all.

Did you watch the interview? He clearly states that the scientific advisors offer advice in their ‘narrow’ categories and politicians make the hard decisions. Boris just wavered at the start, trying to have the best of both worlds - don’t go to the pub but we won’t close them, don’t see your mum but tourist destinations and hospitality with Mother’s Day events will still be open etc

boris was going to rugby matches, shaking hands in hospitals, and not being arsed with cobra meetings.

Lockdown in Wales: Hairdressers to reopen but retail remains closed https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-56363367

Steady and slow for Wales. We’re opening non essential shops on the same date as England.

Really don't get the logic of opening hairdressers before shops! Is the idea that they can control numbers easier with appointments? I just can't understand how that's less risky than shops with distancing measures.

I haven’t been paying too much attention to the England dates but how do they compare to this? It appears we’re ahead by a couple of weeks on meeting in gardens/outdoors but unsure on the rest.

I believe that's previous to us.

You can't get your barnet cut in England until April 12th.

I think we’re slightly ahead of England. I did notice Drakeford saying there’ll likely be social distancing all year still...not sure what that’d mean for all these events planning to go ahead

Yeah I saw that. Which is a huge concern for the wedding in September 😬

I’m hoping he just means in places like supermarkets we’ll have to keep a distance and wear masks etc. I just don’t see how he could keep all these rules in place when England won’t have them (provided they stick to the dates laid out of course). I can’t see how he could justify it.

Ah, did you used to be a TOSser too?!

Funny that this has been brought up again, only last week I was clearing out a T Shirt drawer and came across one with my old username and 'is a tosser' on the back! 😃  #bin

ONS Survey

12% of people now meeting someone outside of their household or support bubble indoors...

Correction - 12% of people willing to admit meeting someone outside of their household or support bubble.

I think its wishful thinking that there would be risk enough for distance and masks to be needed in any setting, yet still allowing events or non socially distanced hospitality to happen. Either there's a threat or there isn't. If its not safe in 2021 at any point then what makes 2022 any safer? That's what worries me with Drakeford's comments

Aha yeah, my bad.

I wish they'd asked if those meeting outside had met with more than 1 person. Literally happening everywhere where I live in parks etc.

The current outside rules are ridiculous.

I think they're deemed more "essential" than shops?

Getting a bit much in Wales

Wales first minister Mark Drakeford is having an action-packed morning touring the broadcasters and speaking to media.

He is now stressing that a further reopening of Wales’s tourism industry would be halted if holiday providers are found to be taking bookings from people in England over Easter.

People living under lockdown restrictions in England will not be able to holiday in Wales when self-contained accommodation in the country is allowed to reopen from 27 March
