I was thinking Brown too just for the way he handled the banking crash in 2008....but apparently he was very indecisive and was obsessed with public opinion.

May might have done ok too...hard to know as her whole time in charge was the constant brexit chaos and the cock up she made of the 2017 election campaign.

I read Rawnsleys book about Brown and he has some pretty unappealing traits, you’re right about him about him being obsessed with public opinion. But he doesn’t get the credit he deserves for how he reacted in 2008 and I think he could have done similar.

Blair would be my choice out of that lot. At least he was competent. I miss Competence.

Perhaps they are worried about the risk of horrific optics if we have 1,000 deaths on Christmas Eve so want to rush out the announcement late tonight to dominate the news tomorrow and distract from that.

Or they’ve used the ‘new variant’ as a big Dead Cat. First, an excuse to cancel Christmas (or at least get them or of any blame) and second , a Brexit distraction. One that backfired spectacularly when the rest of the world quarantined us.

Johnson looks set to announce the worst trade reduction treaty in modern history - all its terms of trade deal will be worse than the membership of the European Union it replaces.

It'll be worth it though if it restricts our travel and our ability to work and live in Europe

Iraq war would suggest otherwise! Quite a big whoopsie!

They’re corrupt, incompetent, arrogant and only in it for themselves but surely that is a step too far?

Your incessant smugness and need to always be right is infuriating.

Yes Glastonbury probably won’t go ahead, yes it may be longer than Easter til we’re back to normal, but hope and trying to be positive helps a lot of people get through this horrible situation, myself included, especially when it’s all so shit at the moment. Your consistent doom mongering and shooting down any ray of hope does not help this. I’m sure you’ll have a come back as you always do but just had to be honest I’m afraid.

Yeah, probably did come across as that, but been called a lot worse so I can take that. The significant thing was that was the first time that Hancock/Bozo have finally let slip that they've been talking bollox for months now, and giving false hope to many.

Behaviour management very obvious.

What were people expecting, a trade deal that's better than EU membership?

Can't wait to enjoy all the extra fish we can catch!- That alone will have made the last 5 years worthwhile. And really bent bananas, back on our supermarket shelves--YESSSSS!!!

Don't forget fish n' chips now finally wrapped in delicious, flavour-enhancing used newspapers (another one of their favourites).

Personally I'm looking forward to buying an extremely powerful vacuum cleaner that the EU have been denieing me for so long!

In fairness, that's what the Brexit campaign ran on - saying the UK could have all the benefits and none of the obligations.

Not even sure they believed it, but equally, doubt they would've won without it.

Yeah, I can't wait to get bananas that bend right round in a circle, like we had before we joined the EU.

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
    • In a 6,800-word Substack essay, external, the Clacton MP said "anti-white racism was embedded into the state", and that legislation aimed at equality was a form of "social cleansing"   .https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdjkd4mp93zo   The privileged white c**t hasn’t got a clue what racism is.
    • BBC iPlayer: Will serve as the main hub for past sets, including both recent hits and iconic archival gems. [1, 2, 3] TV Broadcasts (BBC Two & BBC Three): The channels will air dedicated compilation shows. Leading up to the weekend, you can watch archive programming such as Glastonbury: 70s Legends, 80s Legends, and 90s Legends on BBC Two. [1] Radio & BBC Sounds: Pop-up Glastonbury radio stations on BBC Sounds will feature non-stop coverage, including exclusive mixes and huge sets from past years
    • Got HBO Max to watch football so watched One Battle After Another which is a great film and deserves its awards and then rewatched Magnolia and that is a flipping amazing film...so much in it. (also rewatching Angels In America series which is also amazing).
