They knew we were all underage but we college kids represented a large proportion of their income so they let us get away with it. The 90s was a different time. There was an unwritten code of agreement in The Huntsman when I was at school. Teachers who weren't meant to be in the pub at one end of the bar, 6th form who weer all clearly under 18 at the other end. Pub served both. It was basically the Korean DMZ with Guinness.
Avalon_Fields
I desperately hope we don't end up like T in the Park used to be, where no alcohol was allowed into the music arena (Was OK in the camping fields), you could smuggle small quantities in, but you were left with very limited choice inside, mainly their sponsors, Tennants Lager. Bisque
At Reading when I last went I was constantly being asked by very youthful types if I had any drugs to sell. I didn’t. It became annoying very quickly. I have never had that ever from anyone at Glastonbury. I keep forgetting Glastonbury is on during term time. Most of the kids at school don’t have Glasto on their radar, Reading & Boomtown are the ones to Insta’d at.

DeanoL
I wonder how hard the festival will actually fight this. I can see from a logistics standpoint they'll not want the expense of enforcement of this - as that'll be significant. But Eavis isn't a great fan of excessive drinking etc. on site anyway, and demand is now high enough that they can probably lose the ticket sales from the people this would put off without much worry. We might see a return to the back--pedaled rule from a few years back, so only taking what you can carry. Which was a silly rule but easily enforceable - you don't need to search someone to see that they have a trolley stacked with beer. Any fair rule would require actually doing searches - which are already done for drugs I guess, so wouldn't necessarily need to be more time consuming. Hotchilidog
Is it just me, or are the images used in the article pretty depressing. It's just people bringing in loads of Carling, Carlsberg, Fosters and Strongbow which are all destined to get warm as the festival goes on. Each to their own and all that but I'd rather not drink than take 10 crates of strongbow or carling into the festival with me.

This is what the report said verbatim....it's for 'consideration' so there's very little pressure at this stage to do anything at all. Security8.1 A more robust briefing for all Gate staff to ensure uniformity in relation to prohibited articles.8.2 Consideration given to introduce a set limit on the personal amount of alcohol being brought on site thus promoting consistency and fairness.8.2 Consideration given to modify the current admissions policy in consultation with the lead responsible authority (Somerset County Council) and the GFEL specialist Safeguarding Lead. 8.4 Consideration given to GFEL funding additional police resources for hotspots offsite. secondr0w
If you actually read the Council report, not the news article, the reason this is being introduced is due to the disparity between gates. Some confiscated excess alcohol, others didn't, and the stewards requested some form of standardisation in order to help them distinguish between excess and allowable.. Or so that's what the meeting report says, that could just be political BS 🤣 At the end of the day you guys are some of the most resourceful and cunning bastards I have / haven't met yet, the Eavii know this too and know they would never stop those who wanted to bringing it in...
Gingerfish79
I hadn't read the Committee report, but based on the section helpfully quoted by @parsonjackabove, it would seem that Glastonbury could comply with the recommendation by improving the training given to Gate staff in terms of how to spot people carrying excessive amounts, without having to put a ludicrous limit on everybody and thus creating even more work for staff. marathonsteve
One festival I volunteered at, you could bring alcohol in on your first journey into the festival .

Quite a few do this. But that would create a problem with people in campervans/worthy view/sticklinch etc

Correct, trouble with T was that it became a rite of passage for those who had just left school or were senior pupils. . Alcohol was taken in an industrial level. Teenagers with little experience of alcohol or drugs were suddenly let loose . parts of the camping fields were carnage. Glastonbury is different, the age range attending sees to that.
