Roger1
Nailed on to headline for me. Final tour, massive publicity, worldwide tv audience. Cant see the money being an issue as artists always get a boost in album sales etc off a Glastonbury performance. Wasnt there info around a while back saying a 2020 headliner was booked and the timing of this info fell in line with Elton announcing his tour? anditmakesmesmile
As lovely as Elton John, Sir PM and Fleetwood Mac are separately I really really hope that isn’t next year’s headliner lineup. I’m an old man - I go to Glastonbury to keep me young!

Do you think theres a chance he will be in the line up? Saw him years ago when my sis got tickets. Went along for some sibling time as opposed to really wanting to see him but was mightily impressed by the show. I've been wanting him to play Glasto ever since, would be immense. You think they would have inquired right? But in 2016 he told Matt Everitt he'd never been asked. Gotta wonder if that's really the case though e.g. management may have been contacted, they declined and word never reached him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03g70jp Before that there was a quote from him saying he was too old for it or something. But then he did Bestival so I think that's no longer an issue. I doubt payday is a big concern for him, all about the experience/subsequent sales from TV exposure. Sunday afternoon or evening headline slot, he'd be given the pick I imagine.
fatyeti24
You'd imagine that on his last ever tour that's going on for fucking years anyway, money wouldn't be the main concern in the odd gig or two. It's about legacy too. 2 hours of BBC prime time to remind the world why you're great has to be appealing.

The guy is beyond rich and has sold hundreds of millions of albums so yeah, it’s about whether he wants to cross Glastonbury headliner off the list. angelin
I really think he would genuinely want it for his boys to beable to watch when they are grown up. Surely the money wont be significant and i wouldnt be surprised if he didnt give it to his AIDs foundation anyway. What a legacy. The film was brilliant i thought. Hugh Jass
Saw him four years ago at Walsall's Bescot Stadium bizarrely, and he was incredible. Got tickets for his run at the O2 next December too, but I can't imagine a headline slot on the Pyramid being anything other than a smash. Besides, he needs to do it so that @CaledonianGonzo can bust out his meerkat costume.
eFestivals
I reckon Elton has been booked for over 2 years already.

Did fresh info come through on them? Out of interest, was Stevie Wonder rumoured as a legend slot booking at any point in the run up to 2010? I can imagine some thinking he’d have been for that slot, just as they would now with Elton (of course we all know how sensationally good Stevie was with top billing) The legend slot wasn’t that big a deal back then. BlackZeppelin
Loved Rocketman, Elton would be a brilliant headliner. Being the 50th Anniversary they could probably get away with having 3 legends headlining Pyramid. I still have a naive hope of either a Floyd or Zeppelin reunion. Anyone give them a chance? It's not like it started post-Stevie. Weird comment. Not a weird comment at all. It certainly wasn’t hyped up as much back then as it is now. The legend slot is a glorified fourth headliner now Dolly was the first time that slot went truly massive, there’s no way someone like Stevie Wonder would have considered it in 2010. gigpusher
I'd probably go see him. He certainly has enough hits to fill a headliner or legends slot. The fact they are playing Rocketman this year could be a sign that he's planning on bowing out with a Glastonbury performance which would be a good way to go. Who wouldn't want their retirement part to be at Glastonbury?!

parsonjack
Elton is a headliner...nothing else. 'Legends' recently have had an element of 'cheese' about them....Kenny, Dolly, Lionel..less so with ELO, but Kylie fits with a pantheon of pop hits....Elton has flambouyancy in spades but it transcends cheese by miles. Headliner....nothing else.
CaledonianGonzo
Any debate about whether or not Reg is of suitable size to headline has been put to bed by 2019's trio.
chazwwe
I'm at the point in my time where not too many bands drag me to the Pyramid headlinging slots. It went from 2 in my first year to 1 every year to 0 this year. Elton would be one I wouldn't miss for the world, it would be a party.
