2020 headliners

HAHA YES

I don’t care legit this is brilliant. 2017 was so good that I am desperate to see them at the festival again.

Radiohead somewhere on the bill would be lovely. Maybe 2017 made Thom remember that this is the greatest festival on the planet and they get such a warm reception every time they do it.

you could see that Thom was physically taken back a bit at the response they got on the night.

Part of me just thinks they've smashed the pyramid three times now, might be best to just leave it at that as far as headlining goes.

Secret set somewhere would be cracking. I'd like an acoustic set with stuff like Spinning Plates, Motion Picture Soundtrack and Fog getting a run out, with Fake Plastic Trees, Karma Police, Reckoner etc sprinkled in.

If Radiohead do it next year then I'm sorry Matt, I can't come to your wedding.

N.B. I have a friend called Matt who has decided to book his wedding for Glasto weekend 2020.

I'll take a picture for you.

N.B. we have known each other for years so I'm not randomly being a dick to a stranger.

You'll go to the wedding and take a picture of it for me? How kind!

So it’s been ringing in my head what @dentalplan and others discussed earlier about it seeming like the 1975 are not in the frame. The only way that I can actually convince myself that Glasto wouldn’t call them is if they already have the “newer headlining act” sorted.

Shes not really been discussed much recently and I’m quite surprised about that but what about Ariana Grande?

I thought she’d be a shoe in for the mid pyramid pop slot like Miley did. However I think Glastonbury would struggle to get her to play below headline when she’s comfortably playing headliner slots across the globe. Miley and Katy were not exactly on top of the game when they played.

The Stormzy performance somewhat proves that booking a popular act (even if some argue is premature) can pay off if the act puts on a good performance. Ariana has to be on Emily’s radar surely for something! I reckon if her tour dates didn’t conflict with the festival we may have seen her on the bill in 2019.

Probably and idealistic trio but if Glasto secured Ariana Grande, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John that would surely be a fantastic trio to celebrate the 50th. A little bit of everything there. Even if they didn’t get Fleetwood and it was Foals, Ariana, Elton that would still be a strong trio.

Unless her stock plummets in the next 7 or 8 months Ariana's a headliner.

But doubt they'd have her the same year as Swizzle and it was Swizzle that could be spied loitering in a dark corner this year.

If the spier in question didn't hallucinate her, which is up for debate.

All I’m gonna say is in 2017 we thought it was Gaga and it ended up being Katy

In 2019 we thought it was Gaga and we got Miley.

Seems that whatever female pop act we think it is it turns out to be another we’ve not really discussed ?

I think it’s easy to think of Swift as a front runner when there’s another big pop girl who is playing festivals (she’s doing a fair few festivals this year) and current in the market.

Id say there’s more to point to Ariana doing it than Swizzle. But that’s just me.

A lot of acts close to Ariana are Glastonbury regulars as well.

Might be in the minority here but I don't see Ariana as a Glastonbury headliner.  Stormzy was quite a unique booking as it wasn't just about his music but the culture, the genre and the Britishness of it all that made it something special.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Ariana appear somewhere but I think she lacks the cool/quirky factor to headline that others such as Madge and Gaga would bring.

I don’t think you’re in the minority but that’s kind of the point. Reason I linked it to stormzy is that on paper it sounds like an iffy booking. However on the night I don’t doubt that literally half the festival would be in that crowd.

If Ariana headlined glasto it would get a lot of press and would garner a pretty large crowd. Looking at her performances I don’t see her struggling to hold the crowd. Her sets are wall to wall with bangers.

    • As many said before, not my favourite Primavera. sh*tty weather is something I'm not really used to when enjoying music. Poor communication (more than 1 hour long radio silence during the worst rain) didn't help, but the main problem was me. I decided to leave the venue after things seemed to be getting back to normal. Massive Attack were supposed to play again (with Hymn of the Big Wheel back on the setlist!) as were all other artists on the smaller stages (including Fcukers with one my favourite albums of the year). FOMO was at an all-time high. However, after 4 hours in the rain, I had to admit to myself that I'm not cut out for this. I wasn't even that soaked (water-proof jacket worked). I was just fed up with the rain, wind and cold and wasn't able to enjoy music anymore.   Also, they should stop ignoring the growth of some artists between signing them up and their actual performing. Both PinkPantheress and Ninajirachi sets were ruined for me by completely inadequate stage choice.   However, I felt very much the same way after the 2022 edition and have thoroughly enjoyed all subsequent editions. So I'm still buying early bird tickets for 2027 and hoping this was a hiccup not the start of a downward trend.
    • I will definitely be buying a 2027 early bird pass, partially because of the priority reservation privileges for the Ciutat sets. Hopefully the organization will take action to improve upon this year's failings. Because I thought the free water options and sound quality were an improvement over last year, so clearly they can actually implement positive changes.   I also hope all the douchebag chompers get in the sea, cause I was more bothered by them than in the past few years.   Highlights: The Cure, Ninajirachi, Knocked Loose, Current 93, Blood Orange.
    • Similar feelings to a few others on here. Not my personal favourite edition but a long way from giving up on it. Felt overcrowded at times and there are just too many people there that don't seem to like music that much! Hardly went to main stages which was the plan. Highlights Ralphie Choo, rusowsky, Gorillaz, Geese, Gelli Haha, The Sophs, PinkPantheress, Dijon. Accommodation booked for next year. Thanks for your company and comments over the past year.
