chatty
The Beatles, MC Hammer, The Osmonds, Black Sabbath, The Jackson 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers are a few others who have been in cartoon form from the top of my head.

Eyebrow
Just jumping into this now, and not intending to be controversial (I hate feeling like I have to qualify a statement with that) but I feel Gorillaz are pretty overrated. They've made a few decent tunes and I can listen to their output without needing to run a mile, but so much of their credibility lies within the names of their musicians rather than the quality of the music itself. many of you will argue that. But you'll be wrong. It's largely a novelty thing. when they stop, we won't be begging for more. 2

All overrated or underrated means is that someone haz opinions different to you, which is fine, everyone has different opinions. No one person is the arbitor of truth. But you are clearly talking rubbish I don't like Gorillaz because of the guests. Apart from Lou Reed and Shaun Ryder, I didn't know who was on the songs the first few times I heard them. I suppose I knew Mavis Staples when they announced her. I probably hadn't heard of half of them before hearing them with Gorillaz. The fact (objective fact, obvs ) is, whatever you might think of their new album, Plastic Beach is a very good record and Demon Days is an actual bone fide classic. A proper stone cold masterpiece. Now, you may say that isn't true. But you'll be wrong Edited May 16, 2017 by stuartbert two hats

McCor
I think if it's Gorillaz, it would not live up to the really big secret chaos EE, and this thread, has created. I'm expecting a huge act. HUGE!!!!! I don't think they fit that criteria. Would have had more impact to have announced them on the poster and had Radiohead as the secret. 1

Maybe I'd liken them to The Streets, if I'm being generous. First two albums, absolutely brilliant, but went downhill from there.

No novelty and credibility rests on songs like 5/4 and Rock the House, Clint Eastwood was the easy easy highlight of the Glastonbury set.
