Where did I say that ?

You said you didn’t condone and then went on to list a bunch of reasons legitimising why people did it, rendering the ‘not condoning it’ statement pointless. Just admit you don’t like him and don’t care that people were racist and held up unsavoury flags about his wife :)

A few points I would like you to clear up

Sure

Can you clarify what you mean by ‘brings it on himself’?

I didn't say that.

Why would his very clear mental health issues make him an ‘arsehole’?

I didn't say that either.

Why did you choose to use Stormzy as an example and not any other band you don’t like?

Similar music.

I do admit I don't like him, I don't admit the rest because it isn't true.

Then I’d suggest you take care in your wording, because the original post read like someone legitimising all of those things with a meaningless “I don’t condone it but...” to cover their tracks, but maybe I’m being too presumptuous ??‍♂️

There's plenty of reason to take exception with The Rolling Stones for their tax evasion/Under My Thumb/Stray Cat Blues, Metallica for their bear hunting, The Who for the child porn on Pete Townshend's hard drive, Foo Fighters for promoting and funding AIDS denial that literally killed people, Muse for existing at all, but it's only Kanye that was met with such resistance. The last headliner to get such a negative reception was Jay-Z, with Noel Gallagher publicly saying hip-hop didn't belong at Glastonbury. Immediately after Kanye was announced there was a huge petition to "replace him with a rock band".

Some of the people who brought along heckling banners may not have had consciously racist reasons for doing so, but if they were too ignorant to see the clearly racist tone of the whole endeavour it doesn't excuse them.

Word is that Prince pulled out of talks when he saw that petition. We sometimes discuss on here why Glastonbury is so white when compared to the diversity of Britain, the line-up, and the wider world. There's a number of reasons why that is, but it definitely doesn't help when a very vocal minority of the audience take it upon themselves to wage a bullying campaign against very few black artists who take the step up to the top spot and white artists never face a jolt of opposition. You might think Kanye is an "arrogant knobhead" but fucking hell he's a pop star, it comes with the territory. Him being eccentric isn't out of the ordinary, but his treatment was. The message that comes across there is "this is a white space, you don't belong".

Clearly that's a gross simplification of Townsend's situation. I'm also wary about you shoving in the Prince rumour as though it's a fact to base your conclusions on.

In the case of Jay Z that was a notoriously silly thing to do, the quote was thrown back in NGs face in fine style and he did eat some humble pie.

I've loved plenty of different artists over the decades at Glastonbury (including other hip hop) and I don't want anyone to think me not enjoying his show was anything more than it would be with any other set that wasn't floating my boat.

Plot twist... You're the arse hole in this case, pal.

Why ?

Because I refuse to self flagellate over certain acts or pussy foot around ?

There's been much worse said on these boards about other acts who have done nothing wrong other than offend the ears of some members.

There's almost a full page in another thread talking about paedophile acts ffs. Or is that acceptable ?

You made a statement that had no evidence to say it was correct, dismissing a statement that had no evidence to say it was correct. Thought that was pretty obvious tbh...

Anytime I've posted info regarding The Killers on here it's been correct, regarding the secret set in 2017, TRNSMT, and the fact they'll be headlining multiple festivals this year tba. So only reason i said for certain that it was incorrect to say The Killers won't be headlining Glastonbury again, is because the person who gives me reliable information said the band have an agreement to headline Glastonbury again. And there's literally no reason for me to doubt them...

Sorry, what do you mean by ‘kinda he invites it on himself’ then?

These were the words I used 'like he almost invites it'.

You know the way that some people would love to smack Justin Beiber in the face ? Like his behaviour almost invites it.

I didn't say KW deserved the type of abuse he got, nobody does. Does he deserve adoration ? Hell no. He supports a right wing racist president - and yes, the irony has been pointed out to him - that alone should tell you something about him.

Having a pop at an artist by attacking and slut-shaming his wife is misogyny, plain and simple.

I wasn't there and I didn't do that.

If you were referring to my words, I didn't slut shame her, I called her a media whore, totally different.

Recon the lack of announcements is due to them scrambling to get a decent line up? Like from what we know it’s lack lustre and abit embarrassing to say there’s been 2 years and most of the big acts played 2017 on smaller stages ?

Tbf Killers only on a smaller stage cos was a secret set

No way they're anything other than headliner size normally

By implying she asked for it you were defending the misogyny.

?????????????? I never implied she asked for it ?

I said 'media whore' meaning she takes money from all types of media without having any discernible talent.

I've no idea what was on the flag mentioned, but from what was said it was an image from an x-rated video she made, but I never said she deserved it.

I'm not sure how, as a woman, I'm defending misogyny - that is something I would never do.

You said "Probably because their wives wouldn't put themselves in the same position(s) as Kim K" which implies that she deserves it.

No it doesn't, it implies that their wives wouldn't put themselves in the position that KK did so the same abuse wouldn't be possible.

It’s not a stretch to have both opinions of thinking the flag was appalling and that KK is a talentless vacuous waste of space.

Yeah this. I dislike Kanye. I strongly dislike KK. But I hate any racist misogynist more.

Sure I read somewhere that there were other stages people could go to if they didn't like.

I agree but when you think they played in 2017 now headliners, stormzy played other in 2017, now headliner, LG played 2017 now subbing, the cure, haven’t been relevant since who knows when,. I just think surely they must’ve looked at the line up and though is this 2017 but bumped up! Or just a lack lusture line up, I’m hoping for some ‘wow’ acts or acts who don’t tour every week on the line-up, that’s would be goodn all said and done though, I’m still buzzing for glasto and can’t wait for June!! Think I just expected more ? but I suppose the full line up will be out soon! Maybe there are no announcements and the next will be a poster drop maybe? ?

no-one heard anything from that woman on twitter since?

    • Muse new album out soon , European tour announcement for Nov and Dec, no Spanish date and north American tour starts in July and in North America for all of July and August. So primavera and Glastonbury
    • Well he is on a rape charge, don't see that one as controversial.    Although Hakimi is in Morocco squad.
    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
