2019 Headliners

Exactly, seems a bit pointless banging on potential headliners not being quite as big as they were.

Aye. The commercial legacy of Gaga’s first two albums meant she only really needed one smash hit to be dragged right back into the centre of public consciousness. She’s got that now, and with at least one Oscar shortly to follow (quite possibly two) she’s more than entitled to see herself as an out-and-out headline act.

I'm not sure about her getting Best Actress, I think that's going to be so stacked this year.

I'm actually having more difficulty with the view that Ezra and the Prepschool Vampires are anywhere near Pyramid sub-headliners in this day and age

I agree... but I still have a hard time believing Ed as a headliner.

The bookers wouldn't have had a crystal ball though to know how the film and soundtrack would go down, so presuming headliners booked months ago would gaga still have been in with a shout?

I doubt they'd have known....but it would turn an average booking into a great one.

They were filming at glasto last festival... I can see how it COULD conspire, a conversation, they may have even heard a few songs... I'm sure the Evaii can tell if a song will be a hit? I'm not pretending to know what goes on in the slightest, but I can imagine ways it could happen. Honestly I think the fact that they were filming at the festival makes it a lot more likely.

Another conversation I can imagine in my head "Hey its me lady gaga can I film at the festival this year" "sure, if you headline the next festival" "cool see you in 2019"

?‍♀️

Joint-favourite with Glenn Close and Olivia Colman for me, unless Mary Queen Of Scots is (a lot) better than it looks. A lot can happen between now and March though obvs.

How many headliner worthy acts are out there right now who are at their creative and commercial peak?

I suppose two recent headliners - Adele and Sheeran could arguably fit this. Certainly commercially anyway. Mind you if the likes of Galway Girl are as good as it gets for Ed creatively, then heaven help us all.

Whats your issue with QOTSA? Much rather they get a chance than someone shit like the 1975

I love QOTSA, as most on here know, seem them tour every album since R.

But they are not a viable Glastonbury headliner for 2019.

Great band but the question was ‘who is at their commercial and creative peak right now’

I dont think you can get a creative and commercial peak at the same time so taking one or the other is the best way. They are definitely at their most commercial right now. Unusually a bands most creative period doesnt align with selling millions of records.

There is absolutely no chance lady gaga is going to headline. Have a day off guys, the only reason she's about atm is because of a film.

no one headlines based solely on that merit.

Exactly. I like her but she's been forgotten about completely until now and she was so. after that last album. Glasto sub would do wonders

Right... Not taking away from Madonna, she is a pop legend, but I would put her relevance (I'm not sure this is the right word) lower than Gaga's at this point. I work with a 22y/o, "like a prayer" came on in the office and he had no idea who sang it and I was shocked.

Hope he was immediately handed his P45.

I think Villains not being very good was a massive torpedo to their chance. Has they followed up Like Clockwork with another stormer then it'd be a different conversation.

Its not like villans was a bad album I kinda liked it, and The way you used too do is such a swinging banger. I think muse had pretty terrible albums their last 2/3 bar a few songs here and there. They have a pretty hefty back catalogue to pick from.
