Anything else to do?

Hi,

I'm a Glasto first timer, so apols if this is a silly question. I've been through the FAQs and I think I know the answer, but you lot seem like a friendly lot, so I thought I'd just ask.

Having finally had a successful year getting tickets (after many years of trying), and also being successful getting my campervan field tickets. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I need to be aware of?

I know there is the balance to be paid, week beginning 1st April. Are there any other deadlines I need to be aware of? I'd be kicking myself if there was something I missed, because I wasn't aware of it.

Not much really between now and deadline day apart from endless Radiohead lists being posted on here, with the usual rumours and discussion. If you haven't already done so, may I suggest Tort's guide - it's extremely in depth and I found it very useful myself as a first timer back in 2015. I don't know if anyone else does similar but I read it again this year for the umpteenth time once I'd secured tickets myself - just reading it gets the anticipation and excitement levels up, even if you've been before!

All of the above, plus get yourself a decent pair of walking boots and some good socks and wear them in well before the festival.

It's oft said, but Glastonbury isn't just about the music so be prepared to walk between 10 and 15 miles every day exploring all the fringes of the festival.

If you have the time and inclination, I would recommend trying to get as fit as you can in the run up to the festival. Being more fit this year made a huge difference to me, and I felt I saw much more of the site as a result. As someone else mentioned above, you could easily walk 10 miles a day which, for most, is a lot more than everyday life!

in reply to the OP, get in lots of weekend walks. As has been said, glasto can be quite a physical experience, not just daytime trekking between stages, but dancing the night away in SE corner and other groovy places, then 5-6 hours kip before starting again (Even more fitness required if there's mud like this year).

Good advice on the walking and fitness. I'd read about the sheer size of the place and the amount of walking required! And dancing til sun rise just sounds like something I've not done for years - but looking forward to it!

I'll be 51 before getting to my first Glasto! But a keen cyclist and hill walker, so the boots and walking practise are taken care off already, and I'll be training up for a big cycle sportif in early June so all going well the lungs will be in good condition too.

Perhaps a few of us could form an alliance and chip in a bit? One stage per person maybe? More manageable.

Sounds like you'll be fitter than most there! 

 

The Spotify advice is great, I've found out about so many acts that wouldn't normally be in my radar. You can check out the New Music thread until the playlist is up.

Yeah, and then maybe someone else could copy + paste them into the biggie. Years ago, when Spotify was new, there was a public playlist, but tracks kept getting deleted and crap put into it.

And this sounds like the solution to Spotify's 'all or nothing' collaborative playlist option. They really ought to allow you to specify who can add to/edit a playlist, but for some reason they don't.

That's so true. The Greenpeace gig was such good fun. I loved it when part of the band surprisingly appeared and started to play on top of the tower.

Am I the only bastard who uses Deezer?  Bloody Spotify.

Been starting to generate the spreadsheet for it, but if there's a collaborative effort I'm all over it.

If your in the east CV fields get there Tuesday - sit at the top of the "hill of death" have a few beers and watch the sun set over the site - Priceless......

Wednesday night - fireworks and bonfire, explore the site while its fairly quiet.. 

Thursday - Sunday, total madness - make sure you get a pass-out ticket on Sunday night.

Monday morning survey the carnage and help tidy up the site a bit...

in 2015 (when it wasn't very muddy) I clocked up 75 miles over Fri-Sun, add the miles I clocked up before it officially opened and it was close to 100 miles of bimbling.

in 2016 due to mud and being stuck at Bath & West I only clocked up 45 miles but my god they were hard muddy miles.....

2017 - no ticket so will be sat in front of TV if resale fails.
