Radiohead Headlining 2017

fans of Coldplay, Sheeran, Adele etc. aren't going to be arsed registering and trying to get tickets in the resale specifically for them.

I'd say short of some sort of Pink Floyd/Led Zeppelin/Smiths one-off reformation gig, the effect on resales is fuck all really, especially for contemporary acts that tour regularly here.

Are you nuts? Of course they are. They are exactly the type of fans that will make it a mission. They are the proper crazy types that will do anything and everything to see that poster on their wall in the flesh.

Beware the Ed!

The Sheeranator is coming for you.

Dear Thom and the lads,

you've got 8 months to finally write a tune that's not whiny or depressing that makes me want to kill myself.

cheers

:P

After the glorious news you dropped yesterday, I don't think you can ever antagonise us again with your anti-Radiohead rhetoric :P

Talking of Burn The Witch, Adam Buxton posted a follow up podcast, where Jonny spoke about his dislike for live strings with bands.

" Can't get the strings on stage you see.. We have a slightly self-defeating rule of never using either click tracks or samples or playing along to pre-recorded stuff, so we can't do any of that stuff... I know that whenever you see a band live and they've got live strings, [it] never really works, never sounds great.  All the microphones attached to the violins and it's all a bit scratchy.  You need a quiet room to record. "

That's a load of nonsense from Johhny. Strings can sound amazing in a live setting with a guitar band if done right, it's not lke they need a whole fucking orchestra. Sounds like a bit of a cop out to me.

I think Radiohead are generally a bigger deal than we tend to make them out to be, but I certainly don't think people will be flocking to get tickets once they are announced. As Russy said, it might draw a number of people out who have stopped going in recent years, but I imagine that will be fairly marginal.

Are you mad? There's a higher concentration of Radiohead fanatics on this forum than I've encountered anywhere else.

Yeah, and most of us downplay how popular they are in the mainstream. We're trapped in the lunatic bubble so it's hard to gauge how popular they are outside of it.

I dont think it'll make much difference. Maybe radiohead will bring a few people who used to go but stopped going out of the woodwork, but I bet the numbers will be offset by people who wont bother trying because it's radiohead.

I cant image anyone making a special effort to get tickets just because ed sheeran is announced.

Whoever is announced or not announced, I expect the amount of people trying in the resale will be the same.

I might be talking complete and utter bollocks though.

Nah you're completely right I think russy

It's the potential of Daft Punk which should be feared more than Ed..

ELO's strings sounded pretty sweet to my ears this year - I'd settle for that sort of sonic compromise*

*unfortunately it's not me making the decision of course

Rod Stewart had strings when he headlined.

Radiohead would be copying Rod.

:P

Outstanding news about the TBC. Would have preferred Friday as that's my start drinking a bit later day. Might need a rethink as don't want to miss this due to being wasted.

yep definitely gonna have to maintain some level of sober on the day they play - can't have myself forgetting their entire set as has been the case with many (especially headliners) Glastonbury sets

HOLY SHIT! Neil I could kiss you.

Feel well and truly shit for the Radiothreadders without tickets. Y'all need to make some sort of supergroup where we can all help you out. But it does mean you'll get to pack 8 months worth of excitement into 2 when our hyperorganisation inevitably pays off :-)

    • Ok, ok, I have done it! Not because of limitless upvoats but to support the Efestivals site.
    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
