This is totally me, however, ive tried 5HTP two years now and it does nothing for my come downs. I tried a cheap one of ebay then the extortionate one from Holland & Barrett. Didn't work for me.

When do you normally take it and how much?

I've tried "preloading" and also taken as needed.

There's very little evidence that it has any effect on anyone suspect for many reporting +ve effects it's more of a placebo than anything.

This is what I thought, I'm very aware of the affect things have on my body and not susceptible to placebo effect.

I don't think I'll buy more this year. I'll stick to water, weed, food & sleep to get be back to level 1, then I can work my way back though the levels, beat the boss and be back winning by 2am the next morning!!

I would advise caution with 5HTP. Is it not a serotonin inhibitor. Might pick you up short term but long term it's not good for you and could push on depression. I can't take it because I get ECH and this sort of stuff gives me massive headaches

I take 100mg daily two weeks before the festival and then take 200mgs each morning during the festival and a few days afterwards.

as for their actual efficacy - there have been mixed results from tests, however I have felt the difference from taking it. Regardless of whether it's a placebo or not, if it has a positive impact, then it's all good, right?

ever since turning 30, I find it a lot harder to recover from heavy nights on the booze. I need a medically induced coma after pills/MDMA but I have a stronger constitution for the heavier psychedelics and hallucinogens. Probably because I've over done mdma in the past and I'm burned out from it, or I'm just getting on a bit and can't hack it like I used to. We shall see in 10 days though!

With only 9 days to go until we're all in our favourite place, I wondered about all of your various strategies for making sure you don't peak at 8pm and KO in the tent by 12!

When I was in my early 20s, I could start drinking/taking naughties early and last right into the small hours. Now, at 32, day time partying always results in me wanting my bed by 9pm.

So, what's your strategies? Do you have a cut off time where you're allowed to get on it? Maybe you go tee total?

This year, my plan is to only have the odd drink during the day, and absolutely no naughties. Then bring in the naughties when I start to flag, after the headliners.

A good plan in theory, but recreational delights in any form tend to burn a hole in my pocket....

Always say i'll pace myself but end up making a complete arse of it the first day. It'll never change lol.

Am I the only one who can go harder and longer since I turned 30 than I could when I was 18

Jammy sod, I don't even have to get pissed to get a hangover these days. My 18-23ish year old selves could drink the 33 year old me of today under the table and get up right as rain for work on three hours sleep. It's a fact, and one I often find myself in denial of, particularly when I get a bit overexcited at Glastonbury...

Any tips to avoid lower back pain from standing up for too long?

I've got a varidesk (from Amazon) at work so I can stand or sit at my computer all day. The more I stand the stronger my back gets for Glastonbury.

Alternatively try to sit or lie down now and again during the day at the festival

A bit if a joyless and practical answer, I'm afraid, but I think the only real way is to get / keep in shape throughout the year and improve your core strength and stability.

I did 4.5 hours standing at Neil Young the other night and my back was screaming by the end of it - and I'm in ok shape.

Hit it hard with everything on from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday night.  This is the time to throw caution to the wind and enjoy without feeling to held down to a timetable.

Friday is often a slow start, but the adrenaline rush of the festival proper starting usually sees me through. Watch lots of bands and the hangover/tiredness eventually goes.  Although Friday is sometimes an early (midnight/1am) finish.

Saturday is the headliner day; this is the big day and night, the central point of the festival in a way.  Go properly hard here, from breakfast cocktails until late late at night.

Sunday is "drink all the things day".  I am often motivated by all the people packing up, and planning to head home that night. With the exception of people who absolutely have to, due to work or family commitments, there is no excuse for missing a night at the best place in the world.   Sunday morning, around 5am, is time to find a hill on one side of the festival or the other, and just stare wistfully at the carnage below.

Then it's a lie in, some food around midday, and a slow unrushed journey home once the traffic has died down.

I have had a prolapsed disc for 5 years now, it's at its worse when I'm not going to the gym or playing football or rugby.

excercise is your saviour

This is me now too. It could also be that MDMA quality has gone down the pan. Going to order one of those testing kits so I can be sure.

Start the day with a goodness filled smoothie generally one of the green ones packed with veg as well as fruit. Eat throughout the day and drink plenty of water. I normally don't drink before 12 but am on it fairly consistantly throughout the day, the trick for me is to not neck the booze. Famous last words I'm sure but i have never been hammered at Glastonbury (drunk yes, totally munted no). I think buying beer/cider at the bars slows me down, if I had a massive stash then I may well abuse it.

This is something I was determined to work on for this year's festival because after the last 5 years, its my back that suffers the worst hangover throughout the festival and when I get home.

Agree with this. I've taken to doing pilates in the build up to the festival and I'm convinced my core strength and back strength have improved. I'll be interested to see if it actually has paid off. I also plan to take ibuprofen throughout the festival to keep things under control.

Agreed, it's Glastonbury after all, definitely no place for pacing yourself, I forget about the time, sleep when I feel like it and make sure to eat once a day, banana pancakes are great as they don't involve too much chewing.

When going at it full throttle the only thing for me is eat something, even if it means chewing it 500 times (and most things do). If you dont when night comes you'll get cold, really cold. Drink plenty water even though you don't want to as it makes you piss more. If you don't you'll be struggling to do a shit which makes you feel a lot, lot worse. Sorry if anyone is eating at the moment

Eating is essential, even if you feel you can't. You have to force yourself! I remember one year taking about 20 minutes to eat one chip. Haha. Try to eat at least once a day, even if it is only a crepe or something small. Every other day try for a bigger meal. I have a feeling I sadi that when I posted when I was a bit twatted the other night, sorry!

But yes, eating little bits and drinking lots of water will help make you feel human and be able to do a poo. Very wise advice from sack truck!!  :)

My back was in bits after Neil Young, i'm only 25. Haven't done any sport this past year though, just started exercising again.

There's no magic answers to this, everyone has their own tolerances, both physically and mentally, and things will vary for each individual depending on your dancing/chilling ratio.

I would advise being careful with the spirits - the cause of more casualties than any naughties in my experience. (Although I'm very much looking forward to the pineapple gin.)

Don't neglect cider. While I am definitely an ale man I drink a fair bit of cider at the festival. Not only does it taste fine unrefrigerated, but the sugar content definitely helps with the fatigue.

An empty stomach can make for a fun time, but not a long time.

As for hangovers, fresh air, fresh fruit and a fresh pint usually sorts those out. I take milk thistle regularly to (apparently) aid the liver, but I'm not sure it's much good as a 'morning after' pill. The one thing that I really do think helps on that score is Dioralyte or an electrolytes tablet - the salts your body loses when dehydrated - which help you rehydrate more quickly.

Dioralyte is an absolute godsend I think - the odd morning after the night before when I've forgotten to drink some before going to sleep (mixed with alca-seltzer usually) I definitely notice the difference and feel like utter shite. Wake up, have another and some berocca and I'm well on my way to feeling human again

In the 3 years ive been at glastonbury, the term 'pace yourself' has just been completely thrown out the window. My friends just dont accept resting! There comes a time usually around early friday morning when i crash for 4/5 hours. Then if im smart i'll try and sneak a few hours in when its quiet again on the sunday. We start on the coach at 1am on tuesday night, finish around midday on the monday. I'm usually comatosed for a week afterwards but its worth it..

Whenever you try and take a break everyone calls you a shithouse and you have no choice but to carry on going for a bit longer haha
