Yeah there's something to be said for the issues generated by a 'fallow' year for a business such as this, and all the businesses related to it that employ full time people. That might also given an idea of the sort of thing you'd see at a festival like this.

For example, for those behind Shangri-la, Arcadia and so on, it must be a big chunk of their yearly income that just doesn't happen.

The Matterley Bowl seems unlikely to me, at least at the moment - From what I've read, the local council is claiming that their current slate of events takes them over their number of licenced days on the site, so I can't see any more being added until/unless that's resolved. Certainly it puts a question mark over the site and I think GFL would want more certainty.

I've got absolutely no problem with GFL running another festival elsewhere, just as long as it's not called Glastonbury Festival, or similar. If it had anything approaching the variety that Glastonbury does then it'd probably become my automatic choice for the fallow year.

Would suit me down to the ground as well!!

Me too. Parents could pick me up for an actual shower so I don't look like a troll by monday

On the other hand I don't want it to move. If it was for the 1 year I would probably still go to something at Longleat and that site is probably the best alternative in the region. It might just help give the landowners the shove they need to not bite the hand that feeds them. Also I'd be in for something to do on the fallow year and help out those who work for the festival but a permanent move should be resisted if at all possible

I wouldn't be surprised if they change the dates too. Run it a week or so later in early July rather than stick to the last full w/e in June.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was on different dates too, as it would give the opportunity to run both events.

But perhaps for a first one, which is apparently being done as a one-off in the fallow year, they'd may be do it on the same weekend, and then pick an alternative date if they wanted to continue with it.

Moving it a smidge further north would be righteous and fair me thinks.

moving it Up north would make it stand out as a one off, also moving it to the summer holidays would make it easier for children to come. and teachers

Longleat looks even further away. Bollocks to that, give us northerners the parity we deserve!!

;) I guess it depends on which way people travel, but the Longleat Estate isn't too far from Pilton and from crossing the M4, it shouldn't be much different.  Trouble is any route running North/South from below the M4 to the South Coast is a nightmare.

Natural reaction - please don't.

Maybe if it's a one off event type thing.. but if it's all Glastonbury branded or trying to recreate it or somewhere else, it feels me with dread. Something just doesn't sit comfotably with me about it, not sure I can explain why. <awaits scorn>

Totally, feel 100% the same.

Especially if it ends up to a full time move, that land is magic and there's too many memories wrapped up in the place

trial it in 2018, what is there to lose? worst case scenario it doesnt go that well and they learn a few lessons from it

whether it goes well or not, the fact that they would most likely get the buy in of 50-100k punters would help keep the neighbouring land owners at pilton on side. that has to be the main aim.

what would be very interesting is whether they could get a licence for significant late night volume through to, say, 5am at the "new" site. That would be a serious game-changer. Bestival is live, loud and active across the site until 4am on the saturday night, if they could get to that level and more without having to shoe horn 80% of people who want a late night party into a tiny corner of the site it would be a big difference maker.

I heard from someone recently who is currently working at Longleat on providing the infrastructure to provide a festival next year. He said he'd been told it was to provide something to cover the fallow year, but didn't know who was running the festival.

    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
    • Same. Shower and back out in a taxi!
