I'm going to guess that there will be some kind of information from Tuesday onwards, either a denial from Glastonbury or The Who, an official announcement or a quiet cancellation of the Paris show. If this wasn't a planned leak I reckon there will be more than a few heads togethers to work out what to do after the bank holiday is over.

If none of the above happen then maybe something different is going on, The Who play a headline length set in the legends slot, while unlikely they could technically do it and be in Paris for the evening. Or maybe a Tommy live set with the guests performing at Glastonbury backed by the band via video link in Paris...... would definitely be unique!

Of course they could just be a bunch of dicks and cancel the Paris show in June.

Have just got through all the pages since Friday afternoon due to being too lazy to read them Friday night and a rather fun jaunt to Bristol yesterday I am finally caught up with events on this thread. And I have learned three things:

1. If this Who announcement is true then even though it's up to the band themselves what they do i.e cancelling shows, Glastonbury did still have to ask them. Maybe they were asked months ago maybe not, but if true, it is all quite unethical and naughty from the Eavii in my view.

2. Bennyhanna22 makes a lot of sense to me! Plus, I like how he has his name at the bottom of all his posts to totally let us know it's him posting :) Keep up the good work sir!

3. I learned that on the very odd occasion, that, "haha", oh how I hate it when he does that... Penguin, can make some good points when he's not being Mr 'everyone in the world hates heavy metal but me' Stroppy Pants!

I am humbled, sime.

I live to serve.

i doubt it will be their last ever UK shows, classless of Glasto if they hype it up as

Daltrey is 71 but in incredible shape, both voice wise and fitness wise, the idea he will just go and spend his days pruning his roses is pie in the sky

Daltrey's voice was noticeably degraded when I saw him about 5 years ago

who is doing keith moon's job these days is it zac starky still. Just watching him drumming would be a treat

Yes. Simon Townshend on guitar, Peno Palladino on bass. Two keyboards I think. It's a massive wall of sound. Best I've seen them for years.

Impossible, even before you factor in that France is an hour ahead.

I completely agree, they are one of the biggest British bands ever and have obviously sold around the same if not more albums than Fleetwood Mac and Prince.

However the main difference between The Who and those bands for me is one of rarity. The Who did Glastonbury in 2007, and have done other big TV appearances like the Olympics and generally haven't been difficult to go and see over the past few years. There's also only 2 original members and they are a bit past it now.

Yes Fleetwood Mac and Prince have had tour dates over here but either of those at Glastonbury is a much rarer and more exciting booking than The Who.

Not that i'm massively complaining about them though, still think they're a good enough booking and will certainly go down well with the older crowd at glasto

Thinking positively... Foo Fighters / Kanye West / The Who

is a huge trio of headliners, huge... each act is massive across the world. If the whole Paris thing was not the case and the Who were just playing as part of their final tour i'd say hats off to glastonbury.

Three established headliners with three established subs is fantastic for Glastonbury regardless.

Foo Fighters
Florence + The Machine

Kanye West

Pharrell Williams

The Who

Noel Gallagher

I think any festival would give an arm and a leg for that!

He seems to have raised his game again, The Wilko Johnson album was the best i have heard him in 20 years, admittedly that can be autotuned or whatever but he sounded very robust, cant wait to see The Who again if this turns out to be true

Maybe this is just an attempt by Glastonbury to keep up the trend of having one "legendary"/"heritage" headliner and they ran out of other options, just a thought? Still think it's terrible on those proper fans

If it is The Who, that does free me up to see Belle and Sebastian if they headline The Park. I watched The Who in 2007 and although I enjoyed them, the rain was not fun and my strongest memory of that set was Daltrey wrapped up in his scarf drinking hot beverages from a mug. I'm not sure what it was but he drunk it a lot!

I can't even comprehend that statement.

Even in 2007, which is the worst weather I've experienced, I'd still do it again in a heartbeat.

That was meant as a joke. I tried and failed to get tix to that years fest and the year after too, I started going in 2009

any music fan of any thourght would boycott there set if indeed the story turns out to be true......as that is shitting on fans on a whole new level...and shame on glastonbury for having a hand in it if thats the case. I certainly wouldnt be giving them any of my attention, im not a who fan, I didnt have tickets to the paris show...but its the principal of not respecting or giving time to artists who delibratly would shit on paying fans in such a way.

Most people won't care. Crap behaviour by the band sure, but that's not the problem of anyone at Worthy on the 28th who wants to see the Who. Didn't stop people going to see Morrissey in 2011. I won't be there but that's not a principle thing, I'm just not fussed.

As someone who's lost a small fortune on cancelled gigs due to train and hotel costs (hello FKA Twigs, I'm looking at you), it's the shabby treatment of the fans that annoys me. I wouldn't be seeing The Who had they been booked months ago and there were no issues but the treatment of gig-going fans has long been a disgrace. Booking fees, re-seller sites, sky high ticket prices....cancelling sold out gigs is just water off a ducks back for some bands and done with little regard to financial cost to fans. They will regard travel and hotel costs as entirely separate to the gig and not something they should consider. As an email from a record company press dept said to me... "Those bookings are your choice and you should have taken cancellation protection when booking them".

They don't give a shit. Simple as that. If they are selling out shows, then demand/supply dictates they won't have any issues shifting tickets for the rescheduled gigs. The band doesn't lose out. Only the fans.

The sad thing is that there are dozens of acts who'd love to be in the The Who's position and be given a headline chance. I'm not saying that people should boycott The Who at Glasto but they attitude that it's "not the problem of anyone at Worthy on the 28th who wants to see the Who" deeply pisses me off. I'm alright jack, screw you.

I agree entirely, Keithy.

The conspiracy theorist in me also sees it as a covert plan gradually to coerce the ticket-buying public always into buying the cancellation protection, stealthily increasing profits.

So, standard gig ticket formula:

Face Value Ticket Price + Booking Fee + Transaction Fee + Cancellation Protection = screw you, music fan

If, for example, it's announced as their last-ever UK show then it becomes hard to see it as anything but an outstanding booking.

Obviously their plans may have changed, but when the tour was announced there wasn't any suggestion it was a farewell to playing live, but just to the massive tours. Daltrey said at the time, "The touring is incredibly grinding on the body and we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. This will be the last old-fashioned, big tour."

I don't think we are going to have anymore info till at least Tuesday so until then all the negativity is based purely on speculation. For all we know they aren't playing, or it has been worked out in some way that allows them to do both shows. While I agree with the sentiment if true at the moment we really don't know what the situation is.

I'm an extremely distant relative of Roger Daltrey (or so rumour has it), I will get him to go on Who Do You Think You Are, and then I will ask him.

    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
    • I think people on a place like this, that clearly value live music more than most, don't. I'd rather an academy than an arena every day. But I could see a few people that care about "the gram" than the actual music wanting an arena experience even if it's a mid sized band.
    • The single worst shout for any slot on any stage in the history of efests. Worse even than the Wursels or The Wombles.    Unlikely I’d be there, but okay with the other two. Boy George is a class act, plus he could DJ in Block 9
