  1. It's not going to be an intentional IWD announcement... But that's not going to be because some men would be upset that they're suddenly less important to Emily. BUT it IS important that we keep talking about the fact that women still don't have an equal share. ALL representation matters and yes we should be digging out and celebrating diversity and elevating it!

  2. You're digging yourself deeper... so by (hypothetically) celebrating the fact that women finally have an equal or more share of a (hypothetical) lineup at glastonbury after all those years of men absolutely DOMINATING the industry.... Men would be upset because they're less important Crikey poor fellas

  4. *face palm* 🤦🏼‍♀️ Over the last 10 years only 6% of festival lineups have been female. Last year, at Glastonbury, male acts were almost double. And as for 'Let it happen'.... what?! A well documented history of inequality, misogyny and abuse in the industry needs ACTIVE work to correct the imbalance...same as all inequalities. Not just 'letting it happen.' And you're feeling like men are becoming 'less important' 😭 - that sounds like a you problem to me! Might be off topic but this nonsense needs a response

  6. Can't add any more reactions today but yes, too right. When we don't actively try and address prejudice progress does not happen. Glastonbury is doing way more than any other festival though and I for one am bloody grateful and glad of that!!

  7. Since when does Bearded do 'mainstream'? Bearded is, and always has been more or less the opposite of that and has always had loads of music like has just been announced. I am sure though that many will moan and stick their tickets up for sale whilst tripping over the toys they threw out their prams

  9. Paid my deposit and buzzing to be back in for another round this year with Avalon! Worked as a team leader on Brew Bar Glade last year, easy fun shifts, weds early, Friday mid afternoon and Saturday night (finished around 1am) Brew Bar glade didn’t have taps purely served cans and spirits and was never really that busy to be fair as more of a walk past bar than people congregating for music. But nice to take a break and head over to other stage or glade see what was going on. Managed to get a car pass as well last year as had work Monday morning but I heard some people ended up spending around 12 hours on the coach so hoping to nab one again this year.

  11. Well, I've got an Irresponsible Parent story or three to tell on that regards... Quite a few festivals back, when it was just me and my eldest going, maybe 2015 or 2016 (so he would have been 6 or 7...), I did take him to watch Explosions In The Sky in John Peel, and we went right to the front. I mean, literally the front, he was sitting on the barrier thoroughly enjoying getting absolutely blasted by some instrumental post-rock. Did the same for James when they opened Other Stage in 2016, went right to the front and stood him on the barrier for some of it and sat on my shoulders for the rest (he made the BBC coverage lol). Radiohead in 2017, we didn't go right to the front but went to the back of the first speaker stack, parallel to the mixing desk tent, and I stood him on the barrier for most of that, he had a great view and the sound was *fantastic*. Finally, McCartney a couple of years ago, had both the boys with me at that and we mosied on up to the front of the barrier at the mixing tent and they sat on that for a lot of it. Got quite a few sh*tty looks when we walked in off of the chairs and blanket boomers that'd been camped out there all day, but who cares about that, eh? Sod 'em! So, moral of the story is, you can get the kids in near the front if you're prepared to be a bit fly with the parenting standards and not worry too much about the crowds or the noise. Other than the old goats at the McCartney set, I've never felt anything other than positive vibes from those around us. Most of the time, though, when we've gone to watch bands we've done the sensible thing and gone up the hill at the Pyramid or at the back at Other, or off to the side at Acoustic, etc. There's sweet spots at all the arenas where you're far enough away from the action to be completely safe but close enough to see, hear and feel it still. If your kid's pretty confident, I'd say go and get stuck in. 🙂

  12. talking of fungal growth - did you know why fossil fuels from dinosaurs exist? Because back then when the animals died there wasn't the fungus or bacteria to break them down there is today - so they just became oil. It wouldn't happen now if we left dead things they would break down - bacteria and fungus have come along way since then.

  13. I agree with lots said. With all arguments. Biggest issue is the "business" is run by one sector of society and needs rebalancing. This efestivals forum alone can be a very male dominant environment. Not mens faults, but can feel intimidating at times. Imagine that in the pro music business world! Apart from that. I REALLY want a poster!!!

  24. Quite possibly, I'm sure it can be done properly but that isn't happening in the link NI posted, they are cutting down "old-growth", "Ecologist Michelle Connolly, from the British Columbia campaign group Conservation North, says making pellets from old forests can never be sustainable. "Old-growth forests in British Columbia are almost gone because of 70 years of logging to feed sawmills and pulp mills, and Drax is helping push our remaining ones off the cliff, along with our native biodiversity," she says." If we are to have green alternatives to existing energy sources we need to make sure they are properly green, not just scams designed to make people feel better.

  26. We were over at The Cockmill (next to Acoustic Tent). Nice bar, you get more of the senior crowd...lots of ale and gin drinkers! Loved it - I'd go back there happily, or maybe try a new bar!?. I worked Bar Henge (what was Williams Green) one night too. Thing is - I love the daytime just as much as the night, so I'm easy as to when my shifts are - but I'm aware the shifts we got wouldn't be everyones cup of tea. Maybe we'll get more of a mix of shifts this year, who knows....right now we're just super-excited to be heading back once more.

  27. Hopefully they'll come through with the required names. Green Man are announcing on Friday so we'll have a better idea who's about for those stages. Will be buying our tickets on Saturday. Difference is I'll be bringing my nearly 17 year old son along this time. Never thought this would happen but I'd rather him go to Pukkelpop than some shite UK festival with loads of idiots and aggro. Line up suits us both thankfully. Anyone else think it seems a bit more of a grown up line up than last year? Wonder if booking the likes of Billie and Anne-Marie had an adverse affect on the beer sales despite selling out 😀 https://consequence.net/2023/06/gen-z-drinking-less-shows/

  30. it does, but its re-cycling CO2 so in theory is CO2 neutral, i think it works sort-of like this: as the tree grows it take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which becomes the tree mass, and when the tree is burned it releases that same CO2 back into the atmosphere.

  31. Yes, calm down, we’re going to get an announcement when the time is right for the festival to make it. I’m as impatient as anyone, mainly to see the subs and smaller stages. Do something constructive in the meantime, eg build a hat😉😊

  42. I’m guessing you’d also be complaining if there were 2 acts you didn’t happen to like headlining each stage… And you’d have no such complaints if the Prodigy were up against another big artist that you had no interest in The fact YOU happen to like both acts is annoying for you. It will be pleasing to many who don’t like Blink, which if you scroll back to the 2013 thread (or whenever they last played) are many

  47. https://consequence.net/2024/01/festival-headliner-underwhelming-2024/ Very interesting article around the sentiment of underwhelming headliners and a conversation around why that is. It’s mostly US festivals but Glastonbury is used as an example of mostly playing it safe. It seems to be a mix of factors such as booking cost, most acts have played major festivals before and big acts no longer perform live or see it as downmarket to play festivals.
