Yup. You cant give these crybullies an inch.

And completely self-defeating, because now they’ll just push for more starting with “Bob Vylan must be banned!” And ever onwards

Sadly that could be the last time Bob Vylan gets to play the festival, but honestly I think f**king good on him for making a protest knowing he'd be broadcast, especially when Kneecap was cut from the live stream

Yeah I already loved the guys but this has solidified it even more

It was never in doubt though, when I saw them they made a point of calling out punk bands that don't use their platform to make a statement and profit from the image of being a punk band without actually representing it

An unnecessary statement imo

Jonny greenwood had the worst one. Emily just said hold my beer. Stand your ground and move on.

The fest totally just got railroaded by Starmer and the BBC this weekend. Who wouldve thought.

Genuinely ridiculous how obtuse people are being and choosing to understand them as meaning "every single individual person in the IDF should be killed"

Clearly chanting death to an organisation is literally that, that the organisation is not fit for purpose and should be "killed", it's the exact same as the ACAB sentiment, it's not a suggestion that every single policeman in the world is a piece of sh*t, but a suggestion that there are enough bad apples to make the institute not fit for purpose and in need of wholesale reform

Also sick to death of anything critical of Israel being deemed anti semitic, it's just an easy shield to hide behind rather than face up to the war crimes Israel are committing

Where this stuff becomes rooted in anti-semitism is when people start holding Israel to a higher standard than other countries committing similar atrocities, or labelling themselves as “anti-Zionist” or using that awful phrase about the river and the sea.

Simply criticising the Israeli government for the current atrocities in Gaza, or criticising other western governments for facilitating it, or calling for a ceasefire and a peaceful 2 state solution with Palestine recognition, would NOT be anti-Semitic. Indeed that’s the view we should all be taking.

But far too many (including Bob Vylan and Kneecap) are falling into the former group.

You cant appease the fash.  They've Neville Chamberlained it.

Having to watch politicians and press who have, and are, actively supporting the massacre and starvation of people pretending that they have some sort of moral authority to condemn some chanting against it is really sickening. I don’t get how they sleep at night- just shameless.

Tell your Hamas buddies to stop using women and children as human shields then.

Ironically it was your side that invaded a music festival to murder and rape Isreali's. But you lot give them a free pass.

Every lie is an admission of guilt. It’s actually the IDF hiding under hospitals and firing missiles from built up areas.

Real identity now isnt it. As per this thread, a good hook to score a quick online win.

Not a Ukranian flag in sight (that was very 2022) and not a word about the 150k dead in 2 years in Sudan.

Those wars aren't as fashionable.

That’s such a silly take. Our government and tax payers money isn’t being used to attack Ukraine. We are helping to defend Ukraine. Why are we not doing the same for the Palestinians?

I think the issue is that the criticism of the Israeli government is seen as unacceptable to so many that it pushes people to take a harder stance on the matter

Also Israel isn't the same as Judaism, it wouldn't be considered anti Christian to call out the US for their actions.

Israel being shielded under the anti-semitism defence is part of the issue, I also don't think being anti-zionism is that controversial

Zionism by definition is creating a Jewish state in Palestine, being anti a belief that someone's land should be colonised is not unacceptable

Exactly. Never apologise to these bastds. They’ll just come looking for more. What BV said was tame in comparison to what the IDF and their supporters/apologists really deserve.

As a settler-colony established by a mass act of ethnic cleansing in someone else's land - and that can only maintain its existence through apartheid and genocide - it absolutely should be held to a different standard

Dismissing people who oppose calls for violence are crybabies and/or the fash. Lol.

If the BNP walked out tomorrow in front of Parliament and chanted "Death, death, death to Palestine Action", you'd all call them racist and whatever other -ists you'd pluck from your hashtag bag.

And again, Israel is the equivalent of Ukraine here. They are the two defending countries here.

Glastonbury have made this mess themselves by siding with groups that would rather "up" Hamas and Hezbollah rather than with the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

You do know what the IDF are doing, don't you?

Glastonbury is a festival that has politically always been on the radical left, and I'd expect to see condemnation of Israel and support for Palestine, and I absolutely agree with that. But it's also bee a festival of peace for just as long and chanting "death to" anyone also doesn't fit with the vibe for me.

I also don't buy the "it's death to the organisation, not the people" line. We're talking about an organisation (the IDF) that kills people. They're an army. When you say "death to [an army]" it's clearly going to be seen as a call to kill the people in that army, not to dismantle the organisational apparatus around them. That's context. At best it's ambiguous and that should have been obvious.

f**k the Israeli government.  The world would be a much better place without the IDF.

Agreed, and just wish they'd said that and not what they did.

Right but surely returning the full land between the river and the sea to being a Muslim nation of Palestine would imply genocide against the Jewish people?

Thats why a peaceful two state solution on 1967 borders with Palestinian recognition is the only answer which doesn’t require a bloodbath. But that definitely still includes a Jewish nation so would count as Zionist right?

Curious how that chant is problematic but 20 months of actual genocide and the IDF killing 15,000 actual children is fine.

The police are investigating this but not a single British citizen who signed up with the IDF to commit war crimes before returning to the UK.

Just because someone signed up to the IDF from the UK doesnt mean they automatically committed war crimes.

Obviously comparing a chant to actual war isn't the same? Who the f**k said it was?

You're comparing apples and oranges. Calling for violence is not and should not be acceptable.

    • I see, well even if they aren't on sale it's still not a disaster sales wise, it's not like they are struggling to sell a half capacity areana
    • Blue dot wouldn’t be a thing if Ticketmasters dynamic pricing went down as well as up, it proves that the dynamic pricing was just a scam to make more money rather than something that moved with the market supply/demand.
    • I agree that we’ll never really know up until the concert happens (and even then we still may not know) but I think promoters are having to come up with new tactics to combat ‘blue dot fever’ (already hating that phrase!) and trying to imply that concerts are selling better than they actually are / available tickets are in short supply is definitely one of them.    To add though, it is quite common at the O2 Arena for the rear blocks to not go on sale (and then remain closed for the concert and covered over to hide the empty seats). And equally common for standing to sell out first, then side/lower tier seating next and rear/upper tier seating last.    Jungle’s two concerts at the O2 are a good comparison for this - for their 1st (announced) date, all blocks are on sale and seats in all sections remain unsold, whereas for their 2nd date, the rear blocks are greyed out (more so than for Muse) and equally lots of seats remain unsold in the blue blocks. Standing for both concerts are showing as sold out.
    • MGK can and should headline. I was at one of his shows earlier in the year as a very casual fan, and there were a lot of alt people there. The show was actually class and he completely won me over. Anyone who opposes him headlining is just a gatekeeper imo, we need to move with the times.
    • Ultimately Glasto is just part of the festival circuit, however special we may think it is. The vast majority of its headliners have done many others
