Do they now choose then?  I'd have thought returners got the thumbs up?

70% returners, 30% newbies, apparently a ballot but based on the time stamps of the applications. They then email if you were successful to pay your deposit.

Which they said would take upto two days, but I am in and done!

My nervous system is haywire, I was expecting mayhem!

Sounds fair and also you're in for a good chance!  Hope you get confirmation soon.

its being worked through alphabetically by surname im told ..... @MrZigster I guess youll be last

Lol. A pseudonym of course as you well know. It was fastest finger first (after a review of the application) according to yesterdays email.

Hopefully the reviews are talking some time but now worrying that asking to bring the car again when they haven't been guaranteed any parking spots this year (yet) may be a nail in the coffin.

I saw on the WhatsApp there were about 650 Avalon places last year. Question is were those first 300 like me and super keen, and did it drop off quickly.

Anyway, I got my acceptance email at 4:10pm. (K) For surname. Deposit paid and I can now really anticipate the fun.

Really hope everyone who wants one gets a spot.

I’ve had my ballot confirmation through today as a non-returner. Will be giving out the remaining places by the end of Feb.

Went to my junk email, so check that and add them to your safe senders list.

If you get through the ballot you have a week to pay the deposit, otherwise you miss out, and they go down the list. I’ve heard that they had a lot of drop outs last year (maybe on this thread) so a lot of people ended up getting places nearer to the time so can stay slightly hopeful

I got in April last year, was so pleased. In as a returner this year. Don’t give up if you don’t get the first cut. Peoples circumstances do change and places come open, almost to the end.

Anyone trying, best of luck and hope to see you there.

Any of us Oxfammers volunteered at Isle of Wight? OK the lineup this year is an absolute car crash, and its too close to Glastonbury to be realistically doable most years, but i was thinking of volunteering next year: Whats the oxfield like? Can you park close to it? They seem to be doing all they can to encourage you on to public transport, the ferry is free if youre a foot passenger etc, but i dont mind paying the £100-odd if my car can be reasonably near to the oxfield. Just having a bit of a look at the logistics etc

The site is basically one very long and thin strip with the Arena at the Southern end and the Car Parks stretching out to the North going from Newport most of the way to East Cowes - the Oxfam Field is just outside the Northern pedestrian entrance, where the Car Parks start. Parking was very close, in what soon became a mixed/public Car Park.

Some notes:

- This is based on 2021 - which may not be reliable as it felt like certain aspects were being improvised / changed on the fly due to a shortage of infrastructure and security staff and so for example some gate locations didn't match the maps.

- Also may not be reliable as I believe they have a fair amount of flexibility to grow or shrink the site based on number of tickets sold (and the Oxfam Field would likely be affected in that scenario).

- Some of the public facing IOW maps have the incredibly irritating habit of being upside down ie putting North at the bottom so be aware of that if you're trying to understand logistics.

- A couple times in past fallow years, IOW moved their dates to "borrow" the Glastonbury weekend rather than sticking with their own, so personally wouldn't book any ferries until the dates are officially confirmed - at which point ferry prices go up.

It's really not a great festival for my taste. Even with the lineup being hit and miss, and even if that works out broadly in your favour, it's one of those I look at and wonder why anyone goes. It's R+L for an older crowd (and their kids).
