Having thought about it I've realised I'm not actually that bothered by the paint/dye whatever. I guess I'm slightly bothered by the fact someone thought it was a good idea but the actual outcome. Meh. And like I say, I quite like my new hat.

I was more bothered by the fact that some of the crowd booed when they mentioned the English. Now some might say, poor you, upset by a bit of booing but it's not that, it's the fact that the people doing it missed the point completely. We were there. sh*t, I know what my country has done in the past (and still does, let's face it) but not in that field. We clearly agreed with what was being said and done. Don't f**king boo us. Fair play to the lads for shutting it down though.

There was a group near us who did it and I really regret not saying something. I wasn't worried about being attacked or anything, they didn't seem the types and I appreciate there was a certain pantomime quality to it but I was too taken aback to react before the moment was lost and then by the end of course we were all covered in red dye and dealing with that.

I got covered in the red paint too.  Washed most of it off my skin after the set but my hat, rucksack, shorts and DMs all got covered.

What was the point again?

I think it was mean to represent the blood of Palestinians

From an Irishman, sorry about them. We shutdown a few beside us too. Sad to see they’re missing the point.

Thank you but absolutely no need to apologise. Couldn't imagine any of the Irish contingent on here joining in.

Thanks for shutting them down. Really wish I'd said something

Anyone see the Orangemen flag?

IMG_0242.thumb.jpeg.7fc9c5f4f4b6620351cabea629f71530.jpegGot stood next to a pair of women using this to shelter from the sun. Wasn’t sure if they were on the wind up at first, a few Irish around were loudly tutting about  misreading the vibe.

The crowd being attacked should be a much bigger news story imho

How? By who? I missed this, it was fine by the front barrier, even getting jumped on by one of Kneecap

Friend who I was with, his parents were from NI (catholic) and it he doesn't like Kneecap bringing up the whole sectarian thing because thinks they need to move on but likes what they're saying about Israel etc etc... anyway he was saying he was in Belfast recently and when in a catholic area saw Palestine flags everywhere and then went into protestant area and saw Israel flags everywhere. Is that right?? If so that is so stupidly f**ked.

I’ve heard exactly the same from a recent visitor to Belfast.

That’s fairly common at Old Firm games, one group pick a side and the other have to pick the opposite. Stupid but predicable.

Yeah it's been like that for a few years.  Crazy really.  Two communities with the exact same challenges living next to each other separated by a big wall with Israeli flags on one side and Palestinian on the other.

It probably would've got more coverage if it'd been done at a different set with a different audience.

Guess anyone at Kneecap can't complain too much because it'd just get met with "well what's happening in Palestine is much worse", which kind of opens the door to almost anything when you think about it...

This is not remotely surprising btw and I’m surprised you think it is

Catholic areas within NI - Strongly in favour of a reunified republic on the entire island of Ireland. Tend to vote for Sinn Fein or other nationalist parties. Strongly anti UK government and our Westerner ally. Tend to support separatist causes and rebellions around the world such as Scottish independence, Catalan independence, pro-Palestine, pro-Iran and its allies. Would be neutral at best in a major conflict.

Protestant areas within NI - Strongly in favour of unionism (i.e., Keeping Northern Ireland within the UK). Many would have been opposed to the original Irish treaty 100 or so years ago, although there’s no serious movement to bring ROI back under UK rule now. Tend to vote for the DUP or other unionist parties. Fiercely loyal to the UK government and monarchy. Strongly in favour of our allies (USA, NATO countries, commonwealth countries, Israel etc). Do not support separatist causes because they see them as a slippery slope to Irish reunification. Would be on our side in a major conflict.

With all this in mind it’s absolutely to be expected that the former group would fly Palestine flags and the latter would fly Israel flags. It aligns exactly with the sides you’d expect them to support. Similarly look at a Rangers v Celtic match. Rangers are mainly supported by Protestants in both Scotland and Ireland, and Israel flags are routinely flown by their fans. Celtic are mainly supported by catholics in both Scotland and Ireland, and Palestine flags are routinely flown by their fans.

That about sums it all up, and has been this way for a century.  Even when Kennedy was shot a Celtic supporter’s club renamed itself the Kennedy memorial club. Within a week the local rival rangers supporters club had temporarily decided to call themselves the Lee Harvey Oswald loyalists. That’s how mad the whole thing  is and how deeply intransigent both sides are.
