2025 Headliners

You talk of Neil Young being a step back. As far as I see it, it’s simply he’s Michael’s favourite artist and neither man is getting younger so Emily is trying to give her dad that one last favourite memory of the festival. It is my opinion that if Neil was available any other recent years he would have played. On whether he is relevant in 2025 yes that is debatable, but the fact is he tours so infrequently his stock remains high therefore he headlines.

I say this as a Neil Young fan, and I'm sure he would agree fully - with the exception of the early 70s, Neil has never been "relevant". Irrelevance has pretty much been his intended career direction since about 1972.

He was no more or less relevant in 2009 than he is now.

Can anyone give me some suggestions of a couple of Chappell Roan songs to listen to? I heard Hot To Go, it’s alright but don’t get the fuss yet… just sounded like a crap YMCA.

O-Rod on the other hand, I’m all over that, she’s great!

Red wine supernova and casual now would be my couple. But there’s only one album to listen to so give the album a spin

2009 is often quoted as being the strongest headline trio in festival history.

In 2024 one of the headliners had the field less than 10% full.

Yet there's people complaining that Neil Young isn't big enough anymore.

Mental. Utterly mental.

He'll get a very respectable crowd - not Elton or even Coldplay sized, but decent - regardless of whoever is playing elsewhere. Personally I'm delighted to have the chance, having missed him last time (no regrets - Ray Davies was great in the Acoustic).

Not sure we need another source but from a conversation today Fred appears definitely out, from someone who should know his plans due to involvements this year. Also went on to say 1975 were now in without any prompt.

It's not a friend of a friend jobby, it's a direct conversation. But can never take things to be 100%, certainly not Glasto anyway as things seem to so changeable. But it's another notch on the 1975 odds.

For what it's with I think they more than deserve the shot, fan or not can't think of many UK guitar bands with the appeal they have particularly with the younger generation, and anyone who saw the latest run know they have a show in the locker more than ready for the big triangle.

Seems to lineup with The 1975 being a direct replacement for Fred as discussed elsewhere. Looks like they can be locked in alongside O Rod.

Red Wine Supernova is an absolute belter, as is Good Luck Babe.

They’re OK. Short term bangers for sure, and I can see why people would consider them absolute belters - they’ve been quickly successful. But I’m doubtful that as songs, they’ll match her level of short term success.

I wouldn’t say that they’ve been quickly successful. They were a slow burn. The albums over a year old

The album flew under the radar on release and then when Good Luck Babe became an instant hit people discovered her album and realised its full of fantastic pop songs. Went from having zero radio/chart presence to having like five hits at once. I was kind of expecting her to skip Glastonbury next year and possibly be lined up to headline in ‘27, but they’ve only gone and bagged her.

Not sure I agree.  Good Luck, Babe in particular feels like it's gonna become a staple.  One of those songs that almost everyone loves.  Probably the song of the year on the basis of the bridge alone.

Itd be a bit sh*tty of Oasis to announce a reunion, sell a billion tickets for it, explicitly say theyre not doing festivals, and then their first set together being on a televised festival stage. with a crowd that would be at best 50% thrilled, and 50% walking off to see something else. Cant see it, it knacks up their own gigs.

they will physically be there on the farm, there's no doubt in my mind - whether they play or not is another thing.  What you've written is exactly what makes me think they won't play.  Though, I wouldn't put it past them to show up unannounced at Strummerville or something at 3am and play a short acoustic set.

I don't understand why Hot To Go is so popular, for me it's by far Chappell's worst song. I really like almost all the others though, especially Casual, Red Wine Supernova, Femininomenon and Good Luck babe.

I was listening to the 1975 today, and I'm really not feeling them. I think I'll be elsewhere if they are indeed headlining.

Dreadful band.

regarding the chapel roan chat, I’m not usually one for pop music but my 8 year old loves her and the tunes are so catchy. She’s got bags of talent.

Really can’t see it, would love for it to happen but it’ll be circa 1 week before the tour kicks off and he’ll no doubt be after a bit of downtime. Also, he was hardly complimentary about the festival last time he spoke about it, wouldn’t do anything unless there was a stupid amount of money thrown at him.

I have faith in them both performing for nothing, simply for the love of the fans and the music.

Hmmmm

    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
