Headliners 2023

Well Emily Eavis hasn’t come out and said they’re not headlining no. But bands that are headlining festivals like Neighbourhood Weekender generally aren’t big enough to headline Glasto.

They’d make a good sub.

They’ve spread themself across tons of smaller paydays, if they wanted to they could have done a few stadium shows instead, sold them out and then be considered a headliner. Certainly a bigger tour than say Green Day did just done in a different way.

Won’t headline as a result but if they had done a different type of tour they would be far more likely to.

re paolo, was more saying we don’t need to bump up a white male solo artist when we’ve already got heaps of them about and pyramid is looking like GNR AM and Elton. If we add in the Prodigy and Sam Smith (think they are still likely right, would kill it i think!) then its hardly the most diverse 6 main headliners.

edit: also just think paolo is shite

N-Dubz just sold out the O2. No way on this earth Lizzo subs the Pyramid

She’s literally headlining festivals in Europe and the US around Glasto. I dunno what planet you’re on if she’s going to play a low slot at glasto.

Can’t speak for Megan as I didn’t see, but I was at CATQ and it was too big a slot for her.

She had a tiny crowd.

Shame because it was a great set, but I was there too and managed to have a sit on a bench at the back near the food vans, with a clear view - not many at at all further back than the sound desk. Smallest headline crowd I’ve been in by far.

CATQ headlining Other was always too big a slot. Did that not happen due to a drop out anyway and it was meant to be a Other subbing spot?

We enjoyed it but I have to say we preferred her 2016 appearance.

Or Elton did it for cost cos he's not a chump and knows how big a deal it is.

Haha, I love Elton, really looking forward to him, but he totally is a chump and no way he did this cheap. And even at half his usual fee its more than Glasto likes to pay.

Dunno. Ordinarily I’d agree, but he’s about to retire from touring and it’s a huge unticked box which will boost sales/streams. I can see him being advised by his agent and management that this is a good move.

    • They built a watering system and have been watering the island for the past few weeks to reduce dust, but given the current drought, there will still be dust. They will cover twice as much ground around the main stage with those plastic panels as they did before. They couldn't book Gogol Bordello because the singer was afraid the government would allow Russian security services to capture him if he entered the country. They didn't have much room to be selective about artists. They booked whoever they could get. This year's Sziget will be only about 50% of his original vision. He wanted a dedicated rock stage. They are preparing for a loss of 1.5 billion HUF this year. For some reason, student tickets are not selling in the numbers they had expected. He said that when he talks about the lineup being less important, he doesn't mean Sziget should have a weaker lineup than Primavera. Rather, it should have a similarly strong lineup combined with much more non-musical programming, so people from abroad come here to see the same artists but have a completely different overall experience. He didn't miss Sziget and originally wanted to spend no more than two days a week dealing with it, but now he's working on it full-time and has handed over control of the rest of his businesses.
    • Well the point seems to be 22.7% turn out doesn't suggest the majority are rushing out to support the mayoral system.
    • I wonder if they had that vote again they'd vote differently, seeing how successful other mayors like Burnham have been?
    • Doesn't surprise me. West Yorkshire had a vote if they wanted a mayor in 2012 and voted no. The government then ignored the vote and announced the position anyway in 2016.
