Re: A change of streaming/broadcast, the only one that would ever make sense to me would be YouTube, because the streams would likely be free. If I remember correctly, YouTube did free steams of all Coachella stages a few years ago. (I vaguely remember watching Royal Blood in maybe 2015?)

Maybe in 10/20 years when the older generations are tech-savvy themselves it may go that way, but I can't see anyone else coming in and getting those licenses to be honest.

That’s certainly been massive for the Coachella brand. I think they broadcast weekend 2 only on TV as well, so they’re hitting both audiences (although Coachella is fairly unique in its ability to do that).

That's an interesting question and I wonder if the festival would consider it. Would there be a risk that interest in future festivals lessens if it's not shown on the BBC? It's not just the sets that they show, there's the radio coverage, news items, The One Show etc.

From what I understand, a number of sports that have gone to subscription only have seen a big drop off in interest in them (I think cricket may have been impacted?).

I could definitely see Amazon going for it.

Sports behind paywalls have seen a drop off in casual interest, but have also seen huge revenues from those who really have to see them.  If you can and want to pay, they'll squeeze you and squeeze you.  It's how Murdoch got really rich.  But they know as soon as those rights go elsewhere, so does the audience.

The streaming companies operate differently.  They pay for a product to hook viewers into a subscription, but they gamble (correctly so far) that the low cost of that sub means you're much less likely to drop it if your favourite show (or sport or whatever) leaves.

It's why Amazon paid big money for, say, Clarkson and his Top Gear replacement, then let it fade away, cos it was expensive to make and everybody who was going to sign up for it already had done so.  It didn't matter if it was still popular as it's new subs they want most.

I dare say Glastonbury could benefit financially from going that way, at least in the short term, but they could benefit financially from all sorts of things, yet they choose not to.

”You try telling him Glastonbury doesn’t matter.”

Glastonbury of course, still only semi professional, with the manager having a day job as a farmer..

Soon …

Hopefully!  So that’s your announcement when there could be an announcement of when the next announcement will be.
seriously I reckon it’s going to be within the next few weeks   Weather permitting we are going to drive down to Somerset in a few weeks time to tour the oxfam shops looking for posters or strange designs mown into the pyramid field

Presumably they'll keep the line up announcement until as late as possible, especially if it includes a number of international acts. Even if it came out tomorrow, I'm not sure it would be considered reliable.

@Gnomicide, have they ever kept the poster reveal until after the balance payment window?

Yep, since deadline day moved to April, the poster has been out after it in 2011 and 2015.

In some weird way the Coachella news is making me nervous for Glasto being able to announce. It looks like Coachella is nowhere near ready to announce… if Glastonbury has a last minute hiccup with their acts it looks like it’s taking a long time to backfill.

But then again Coachella drops all their lineup in one go. Glasto could announce about 60/70 acts with more TBA and leave it at that if there are some sticky names.

I mean they did exactly this with Metallica as a TBA.
