For sure. But sounds like moderna will have delays as well. And Pfizer had some a few months ago. It's not just AZN....

I thought AZNs statement was very clear that there isn't evidence of wider issues or issues with the batch from the evidence they presented.

Ah, I’m just getting pissed off with AZ not being held to account for performing so poorly, so I’m grumpier than usual! The data from mass use fully supports the vaccine being safe. But when 4 young, healthy people keel over with blood clots in their brains, one of them dies and the only thing they have in common at first glance is that they all recently had the same vaccine, then you have to look into it. It’s probably not connected, but it needs to be investigated (it is an odd event). Even if it is connected, it’s extremely rare and it would help if we knew why so it could be avoided. As it stands, it wouldn’t stop the vaccine from being used, it would be added to the list of rare side effects (which can be quite scary if you read through the leaflets than come with many drugs, but thankfully don’t happen very often). I don’t have a problem with holding on for a few days though while it’s looked into. It’s not being used for high risk individuals in Ireland (they get Pfizer or Moderna), so it doesn’t change the vaccination schedule for those that need it most anyway. It would have a much greater impact on the vaccination programme if it happened in the UK.

On the production/delivery front, Pfizer slowed down to speed up, but are actually exceeding their quarterly commitments (thankfully!), Moderna are as new to making vaccines as AZ are, but at least AZ are used to mass production and actually selling stuff, which is entirely novel for Moderna!

Do you think Sarah’s family are pleased to see people waving Palestine flags and shouting fuck the police at a vigil for their daughter that was brutally murdered because she dared to walk home alone?

There’s a photo doing the rounds of a far left parasite who turned up last night with a “free assange” placard. Yes the same Assange accused of raping a woman.

Keep defending the indefensible.

it was 2 women actually, and the claims are about as realistic as those levelled against Alex Salmond, you might want to consider the possibility that someone was out to get Assange.

At worse 1 person died of a blood clot.

How many planes fell out of the sky yesterday all over Europe.

The EU needs a massive dose of perspective.  It's almost criminal what is happening.

Glad we are continuing down the path of commonsense.  Can't wait to get mine.

well, like ToiletDuck said AZ are being a bit shit, so maybe there's some politics in all this too...hope not.

I mean in EU in terms of supplies.

probably, Netherlands also stopping AZ now. Austria had the discussion few days ago after the death of a nurse but health agency decided to keep it going as they and also EMA couldn`t find a connection to the AZ, probably also make the situation more unsettling for people after all the negative press/opinions about AZ here.

AZ are going a great job.  12 months ago we had nothing.  Another dose of perspective needed

12 months ago, Oxford University designed and tested the vaccine. Its AZ's job to make it and get it into arms. Oxford played a blinder, AZ are performing poorly (honestly, you'd swear some posters here made the bloody vaccine themselves they are falling over themselves so much to defend the company that makes it). Repeatedly revising down deliveries (often the night before) is not how a reputable company does business (reputable and big Pharma is the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron mind you!). Falling 180m+ doses short on their order for the first 6 months of the year is not within the boundaries of fluctuating yield (and they are not even sure they can manage that). I know all about producing adenoviruses, I've done it myself.

AZ don't normally make vaccines, right?

Nope. They have 1 that they make on a small scale. The jumped at this as an entry to the market and bought credibility by pairing with the Jenner. There's no altruism in Pharma. The only reason its being sold at cost is that the VC of Oxford insisted on it as a condition of the partnership.

This is where the real risk of many future hospitalisations is taken away - hopefully everywhere goes to this level soon

I think its funny that a former policy advisor to the DfE thinks it's spurious, but our CMO doesn't...

Ha fair enough! i guess we will see what happens, but i am worried that some EU countries are using their ( reasonable) anger over AZ's delivery issues to treat that vaccine harsher than the others. Which is counter-productive,

You are allowed your opinion but I totally disagree.

Its nothing about willy waving over I have done this or that - if it was I could point to my years of managing procurement contracts.

Its down to contracts and the wording being "best efforts" - the hasn't been realised- so EU doesn't get as much.

I'm not commenting on the contracts, I'm commenting on the performance, which is poor! Fair play to AZ for preventing themselves from getting sued, but you're missing my point entirely. AZ can't do what they said they could do.

I didn't miss your point - you have some sort of cob on about AZ not doing a good enough job at producing the vaccines.  I think anyone with half a business brain understands that any company entering a new market is going to face issues and probably not get it perfect on the first attempt.  You are expecting much better.  That seem naïve to me.  You obviously understand more about the science and the vaccines than me - but your clearly lacking in business risk planning.

This was all predictable and that is why the contracts matter and why the EU are struggling.

Anyway - it seems they have bigger issues than supply.  They aren't getting it into arms because the have totally mismanaged the whole process beyond supply.  People don't want it within the EU it seems.

You're right. I do expect much better from one of the biggest Pharmaceutical companies in the world.
