Anyone who still doesn’t think vaccinations reduce transmission is an absolute roast potato

There is plenty of people put there I have seen them on Twitter.

They confuse ' don't know if it stops transmission' with ' it does not stop transmission'.

There are so many thick people out there and a lot of them are on Twitter/FB and very vocal.

I got rid of Facebook in April last year and just used Twitter instead...now it feels like stupid people/facebook mums have migrated over there too!

Is that because the immune system is overloaded? It has so much to deal with its effectively making mistakes, and it can't keep up?

Not necessarily, but we don’t know lots of this for sure. Inflammation is good when it’s controlled, it’s part of the healing process, but chronic inflammation isn’t, it does all sorts of damage. If the quality of the antibodies and cellular immunity elicited isn’t good, then it’s not very effective at clearing the virus. What’s been observed in patients with poor outcome is that they make lots of antibodies and t-cells, but they show weak affinity for the virus, so their effort at clearing it is inefficient and non-specific. I’m sure there’s loads more involved, the picture of what is happening in patients that do badly is only really starting the emerge.

on a positive here it can be used to persuade some to the vaccine sceptics to have a jab and potentially save lives ... it can also go the other way ... ive just updated my profile photo to show im happy to have the jab ... and once ive had it I will update it again ... the power of influencing people can go both ways ...

Also to be added to the roast potato list are people who are still rabbiting on about people being “half vaccinated” despite overwhelming evidence that the vaccines are highly effective after one dose.

I agree in the context of conversations about protection, and about how soon we can lift restrictions.

But it is an important distinction in terms of conversations about the rollout and about the long term, as come April we're going to need to start delivering those second doses, and it's still seen as likely that protection will fade sooner without the second dose so it could become problematic if people don't take them.

Think I was fed up of Facebook in general and COVID-19 was the last straw...given its straight off the back of constant Brexit crap.

So if this is correct and furlough arrangements and UC uplift are going to be extended by a further six months what does that indicate, or have implications, for the level of lifting restrictions in the near future?

Surely if there were to be an across the board relaxation then neither would be needed?

Or is it simply there as a safety net to cover different sectors opening on a graduated basis? And if so, is it way off to anticipate that some sectors will remain restricted until the beginning of autumn?

I think it’s to give foundations for restrictions to be gradually relaxed over the next few months into the summer then see what the situation is like in the Autumn.

oh a little positive ... I got a letter through from consultant a week or so ago giving me a video consultation .... then I got a call from the appointments team saying that consultant needed to reschedule for a month later ..... but this was an in person appointment for early march .... shows me that the NHS seem to be planning for improvement now ...

You'd have to hope it's the government realising that there will still be a period of rockiness even after all restrictions are lifted as some are reluctant to go out, or at the very least a lag back to 'normal' behaviours?

I'm sure it won't be helping newly  self employed people in the 19/20 tax year despite the deadline for their tax returns for that year passing end of this month. He seems to hate us self employed

Are you on the 2 million (I think?) people that have fallen through the cracks?

    • Electric Callboy just said they'll be touring here next year. I'm not sure there's a poster for it though. I'll look when I'm near some next.      He said we'll see you at Download at a gig before any of the band. Presumably he was trolling. They're in Austria at the moment and Germany tomorrow with a week's break and more shows in Germany. Whilst not impossible to come back here and then go over there again, it seems unlikely.
    • Thomas Partey, knocked back by Canadian immigration now.
    • I'm sure someone can update you on the clashfinder, and it will be pretty accurate by the time the festival comes around. It's a large flat-ish arena with main stage in the open air, no best side I'd say. Leadmill (3rd stage medium tent) is at the back of the main arena, T'Other (2nd stage big tent) 5 min walk round the corner. At full capacity walking around can take a bit more time though. I noticed that The Enemy are scheduled to not fully overlap with Wolf Alice, so you could catch part of their set too.   You can walk around anywhere with a beer, with most bars the usual mass market stuff, but one nice craft ale tent, back of the arena near the Leadmill stage. A main meal will set you back £10-15, but cheaper snacks also available. Expect a pint to be £7-8. Possibly a bit more this year as prices everywhere are increasing.   It's fairly easy to get to from the town centre using the tram, although can be busy at peak times / very busy at curfew. If you like a walk, it's approx 40 mins to Kelham Island (lots of indy venues) and probably an hour to the city, or catch an Uber. There will be loads of 'fringe' music events on around the city right through the weekend. Most are free. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy the festival, and your stay in our city!
    • I think people on a place like this, that clearly value live music more than most, don't. I'd rather an academy than an arena every day. But I could see a few people that care about "the gram" than the actual music wanting an arena experience even if it's a mid sized band.
    • The single worst shout for any slot on any stage in the history of efests. Worse even than the Wursels or The Wombles.    Unlikely I’d be there, but okay with the other two. Boy George is a class act, plus he could DJ in Block 9
