On a positive though, testing is way way up this past week. Although the average positivity is now about 7.5 % which is not good.

I wonder if testing has become higher because of people with the usual winter flu/cold symptoms getting tested

I want Hancock to do the next presser in pidgin.

BANES somehow managing to stay out of Tier 3.

Love to see it.

Only need to look at one of the local MPs to possibly guess how.

it's actually kind of interesting question...needs someone who is willing to be authoritarian, to fully follow scientific advice, to be willing to take risks and act early, to learn from past mistakes, and to stop with any british exceptionalism and look at what is happening elsewhere. I don't know who in that list is best equipped, but I expect any of them would have done a better job than Bojo.

down to just masks and social distancing as the maximum.

(within 'social distancing' I'm including a possible ban still on crowds for bands).

We'll hit that by 1st June at latest (providing Oxford vaccine is approved by NY).

We'll go from tiered restrictions to almost nothing long before vaccine rollout gets to the 65-70% mark.

Hancock: We will be back to normal before 2022

The last question comes from Arj Singh from HuffPost. He asks if, given the highly-transmissible new variant, the government is guilty of overpromising by suggesting the UK can return to normality by Easter.

Hancock replies that he is "highly confident we will get things back to normal before 2022" adding that the speed of the vaccine roll-out is accelerating.

how high we gonna get ?!!  before the tier 4 starts to kick in ?

Y'all should look to Wales as an outlier here.  For the first time since we lifted the firebreak our numbers have gone down today (very slightly overall and still rising in parts).  The 7 day average is from 5 days previous (so ignores most delays) so are accurate of how things were on 18th December if that makes sense.

With us pubs closed at 6 pm on December 4th, schools were finished on December 15th, and we went into lockdown again on December 20th.

I would not be surprised if the main difference here is a combination of new variant being more present in the little ones which, if true, is so cruel as it's like Sophie's choice.  Do you save the most vulnerable at the expense of sacrificing the future of our children (my son was just beginning to start to read when this shit hit as admit to having a vested interest), or vice verse.  Despite the certain, simple answers many give, these are decisions where there is no right answer, just a bunch of shitty ones.

See graph because we like graphs.

On the downside, as this year couldn't just give us something for nothing, a bit of torrential flooding is now in order 🙂.

I know he's a centrist narcissist sociopath satanist war monger but I would actually pick Blair out of that lot.

Even May might have done a decent job, come to think about it (though she would have been torn apart by her backbenchers for the lockdowns). She's an administrator with an eye for detail, so would have finally had a moment to shine.

But yeah, anyone but Johnson is really the only thing I feel you can say with confidence.
