It's a tricky one whether I'd go to see him

Plus - great back catalogue, with solo material that suits his voice better than the Roses songs, so less likely to be a vocal disaster. He's an undeniably charismatic stage presence.

Minus - Terrible live vocals, even taking the above into account. Last solo album was total gash.

He headlined the Other 15 years ago and that wasn’t long after he started incorporating Roses tunes into his solo sets. Remember it going absolutely mental when he opened with Adored.

He is a tough one to place nowadays, it kind of depends if he’s playing Roses stuff or is sticking to his solo material. JP headliner as a more “indie” alternative to Swift and PSB doesn’t seem unreasonable.

I am going to go NHBD festival just in case he plays Glasto and is up against PSB.

I do like some of his solo stuff. New album was shite overall though.

That last album was bloody awful!

I don't know whether it was expectation that made me hate it so much. By far the worst of his solo efforts.  Take Humanz - I was so disappointed with that album because I enjoyed the other Gorillaz albums so much, but recently gave it another listen and didn't mind it. No disappointment at all because I already knew it was no Demon Days.

Maybe his last album isn't all that bad if it's not being compared to Stellify? Or maybe it actually is really shit? 😆

Was there. Sound from the Other PA that night was spectacular.

Would be tempted to see him, it's been a long time since saw him do solo stuff. Whatever year The World Is Yours came out is the last time I saw him, the old o2 Academy in Birmingham (before it moved). That 05 set on the Other was great.
The new album is awful though.

I have no desire whatsoever for anything else to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses.

John Squire soon changed his tune when they stuck a couple more zero's on the offer.

Anyone remember John Squire - during the Seahorses days - wearing Levi’s still with the massive brown cardboard thing on they used to have on the back pocket when still hanging up in the shop?

I seen him playing the guitar behind his head at the Manchester academy. Don't think he would have got away with that in the Roses.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
