Why does Nick Cave’s performance at RW have any relevance? You know that it is not down to quality or who is most popular on efestivals right?

Nick Cave is not mainstream at all. Most people have never heard of him. Efestivals is the biggest nick cave echo chamber I’ve ever experienced lol.

very rarely do I ever meet someone who has a bloody clue who he is.

I like Nick Cave as  much as the next eFester - but he didn't exactly pull a huge crowd in 2009 in the sub slot (there's also a joke to be had around Cave creating an echo chamber - but I can't be bothered).

I like Gorillaz, but it'd be a proper WTF booking for a headline spot. I think they'd be great doing a 1 hr 15 min set of the hits before a headliner, though.

Obviously not a fan of Kasabian at all, but wish Tom all the best. I'm sure they will be back headlining the Pyramid in the future.

I can’t fathom a year where they would genuinely ask him to headline either. He’s probably at the bottom of the pile when it comes to potential headliners.

I actually think they’d ask Kings of Leon to headline before Nick Cave. Or get Muse again..

I'm Belgian, so I can only comment based on my frame of reference. In Belgium, he's a big deal. He sold out the biggest arena in Belgium in 15 minutes, whereas acts like QOTSA, RHCP of The Killers struggled to fill that place in recent times. And pretty much everyone in my friend/work surroundings is at least familiar with him.

It seems to be clear that he's not as big in the UK then, since I always thought Nick Cave is often being ignored on these boards. 😉

Edit: There's also quite big difference between Cave in 09 or 13 and Cave after Skeleton Tree, in terms of popularity. At least Cave seems to sell more tickets than Mumford nowadays in the UK, looking at the APE ticket sales.

It would flop like nothing we’ve ever experienced before our life.

I often don't agree with Matt, but he's dead on with this. It's inconceivable.

Cave really didn't justify the slot he had last time he played, so the idea that he could move up to headline is hilarious. I know the argument is that he's more popular now, but that just means that he might have reached the point where he's able to sub the Pyramid without the crowd being embarrassingly small.

Yeah there’s definitely a buzz or European fanfare to his slots in Euro festivals, but it’s not like that here in the U.K. Places like Primavera etc can pull it off because it’s the sort of acts they like to book in big / headline slots and people go to those events expecting lineups like that.

Glastonbury is a different beast. Yes they do book artists like Nick Cave time to time but it often falls flat unless it’s on the right stage. Put him up against anyone mainstream and there will be tumbleweed. As we’ve seen in 2009 and 2013.

*more popular on efestivals...

Anyone who saw Kylie should know this suggestion of him headlining is ridiculous. One of the loudest “who is that(s)” I’ve ever heard.

Totally agree re shorter set but they need to be anywhere but the Pyramid (Other or, even better, West Holts).

He’s definitely more popular now with the whole Peaky Blinders thing.

He’d fail the Office Test spectacularly.

Didn’t say he was more popular to where he can headline, just more popular than 2013. Most people in my office would know RRH but wouldn’t name the artist.

It’s hardly the festival banger which will rope in a wider audience though is it? Anyone viewing him casually would say “oh I recognise that one” and leave it at that.

I am in no way advocating for NC&TBS to headline at Glastonbury, as I agree he wouldn't pull the kind of crowd necessary to warrant such a slot, but I have to agree that his profile has been raised in recent years. Both due to Peaky Blinders and some of his songs being used in TV and film elsewhere. My whole family (who admittedly are not cool to what's 'hip') are aware of him now where none of them knew his name in 2013. I think due to 'Into My Arms' being used in a few things.

And as someone who was at that 2013 slot it felt anything but flat, to me. I loved it.

But yeah this is nothing to do with quality. There are plenty of quality acts out there which are not big enough to headline Glastonbury.

When I say Nick Cave, Foals, whatever aren’t Glastonbury headliners it doesn’t mean they suck. I like them both a lot. I can just disconnect fan fare from reality.

the kasabian thing seems... weird. They've disabled comments under the tweet announcing Tom is leaving, and he was doing interviews about the new album 2 weeks ago.

Wonder if something dodgy is about to break?

The wording of the statement is harsh too. Doesn't even wish him well.

Re. Nick Cave being more popular now - wasn't he struggling to shift tickets for this year's arena tour?

Yeah it wasn't selling out. He toured the UK in autumn 2017, did his Q&A every frickin where early summer 2019.. I opted not to get tickets for the upcoming tour because I couldn't really stretch to it financially, had seen him on those two recent occasions, and just hoped that he would end up somewhere on the bill at Glasto (irony!)

Also, much as I loved it as a listening 'experience' I wasn't really in a rush to hear 'Ghosteen' live.

Yes not a band I have ever paid much attention to but it does feel a little like trying to distance themselves from him by commenting on his behaviour and suggesting that there is some kind of mental health issue. Definitely not worded well.

This is what I think. I’m making me nervous how many posts on twitter I’ve seen wishing him well. Feel like a bomb is about to hit.

Forgot about that article 2 weeks ago about the new album. I just assumed everything's got a bit much; documented mental health issues but now, starting to think there's gonna be a lot more to it
