Tame impala would not be a cheap booking, this new live show looks incredible and with corona brining the European leg of it to a hault before it could get going I see a big year for tame next year

im not sure what a citadel performance in 2018 has to do with it when they have just released a incredible album and upped the show (lights, lasers, production,) massively

Again, you have no idea how much these acts cost to book.

You can have a reasonable idea which acts they've splashed out on. I don't know exactly how much they payed Rage, Foos and Kendrick to headline. But I know they're the most expensive act they booked that year.

Lights and production are fixed costs that would be dispersed across the shows that the artists plays, doesn't mean they would be more expensive because theyve got fancy lights.

I just don't think Tame has the pull over here compared to America.

Citadel shows that Tame isn't as popular over here, atleast in 2018. Yes theres an album out since, which you think is incredible, but does the wider audience think that and has that grabbed a wider following?

Tame impala have huge crossover appeal with fans of us hip hop/r&b

I think the main downside of this two main stage thing with the acts seemingly clashing is even smaller crowds in the smaller stages. Obviously I know in previous years the R1 has taken these crowds too but by the time it gets to the headline slot if there’s two different headline sized acts on at the same time, some of the other stage headliners aren’t gonna stand a chance at all.

Obviously they’ll probably stop a couple stages early like they usually do but even then, can’t help but think the smaller stages will suffer from smaller crowds as a lot of people will likely really wanna see at least one of the headline options each night

Watching BMTH’s 2015 set and it’s night and day how much better they are as a live act now compared to then, Oli especially. The backing tracks used on that 2015 show are embarrassing watching it back. He’s sorted his shit out live and they will absolutely smash a headline set if they (hopefully) get one.

This is just personal opinion but I’ve always thought the opposite, I fucking loved that 2015 set and thought they smashed it when I was there, but every time I’ve seen them since they’ve dissapointed

You’ve gotta think that this is the best year to experiment in a way. First festival in two years, a chance to make up for lost time for all goers, a live festival which we haven’t had this year. People are gonna go no matter who’s headlining, there’s gonna be backlash whoever’s booked, so why not make the year where people are desperate for live music a bit different. If you put Tame Impala against LG or Dave or Dua Lipa both will draw crowds. They are big, their show is amazing and it’s the start of a new era of festival setup so why not try get some headliners that wouldn’t usually play with only 3. Add Slipknot to the list

Ideally imo

Dua Lipa/Slipknot

Dave/Tame Impala

LG/Billie Eilish

Ah yes, 8 headliners with the dance stage and the FR having co-headliners for the first time ever

I agree. There are people like me who can find plenty in the undercard but are generally let down by the headliners. Tame Impala and Slipknot are the kind of headliners who reach people that haven't been catered to in recent years as far as headliners go, and they have a decent enough crossover with the usual crowd that they could do it if there were two stages and someone more typical was on the other stage.

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
    • Beartooth? Or are they a bit to shouty shouty
