Does it mean there will be no cut through from west holts to avalon now? It was handy gap rather than going the long way round through the crowds... I suppose this helps split some of the crowd away from SE corner then

It was blocked off last time.

The gap wasn't there in 2017.

I guess it fits in with the intention to spread out the late night entertainment, but as Glasto Latino’s schedule used to start in the afternoon, would that work being so close to the WH stage? I know it is to the side, but still pretty close.

It looks like there'll still be the path into Bella's field, which can be followed into Avalon... I can't imagine they'll make everyone double back.

But does look like the direct route (past Goan Fish Curry???) might be gone?

I'm doing this walking from memory, so may have my bearings all wrong.

It's a bit rough as I've only got a bit of spare time but here's the segment of the new map over the Google Earth 2017 Glastonbury image

G2019.thumb.jpg.412138263fcab7ab62a3f844a9b88cc0.jpg

And here it is with some transparency added

If that is glasto latino, it does look like it's dropping in the field next to West Holts....so perhaps some more after headliner entertainment away from the SE corner>

Has that changed the size of The Common, Or has it always been quite dinky?

It looks huge to me. Nothing on the new map for the common yet so hard to say unless I'm missing something?

That’s The Temple you’ve circled, @Keithy, and it IS huge in its new incarnation from 2017! But I meant the actual area of The Common itself, and looking at the aerial shot without your super cool overlay, it seems that it remains unchanged. Given that, the new total area of Block9 is MASSIVE!! Which is fantastic for me!!!

:)

Sat in the pub looking at the current Heavenly roster and trying to work out who will be at Glastonbury. They normally have several acts in the Crows Nest and William's Green.

Would quite like The Orielles and Hatchie to appear.

Boy Azooga, Pip Blom, Hatchie, 77:78, can see all of them at Williams Green and/or Crows Nest

Fair bit of sound bleed for Glasto Latino that close to WH no?

I'm not so sure....whenever I've gone past WH, the sound seems to drop markedly once you've gone past the stage.... to the extent they are very good at enclosing the sound within the WH area. I think there was something on a website from the sound company about how they direct the sound. I've never heard the WH stage sound when I'm in WH bar.

@stuartbert two hats has previously given quite a lot of useful info and interesting video links to how they have evolved the systems to create such clever ‘windows’ for the sound projection. So much so that at the Pyramid in 2017 I did a highly scientific experiment to test it. And lo and behold....! There is a point on the left of the field facing the stage at which moving merely 1-2 metres to your left and right you move in and out of the sound field, with a spookily massive drop off in volume and clarity. I was astonished!!

Ben

Edit - for clarity, this obviously exists on the right of the field too, I’ve just never been over there!

In fact, I've been posting recently about how they're a little too aggressive with cutting off the sound in the W Holts field. You don't need to go very far back from the mixing desk for the sound to not only be quiet, but generally lose all punch and become pretty pathetic. Sadly abandoned Avalanches last time because it sounded so bad.

I even emailed the festival begging them to configure the PA to cover more of the field, but they ignored me, rightly sensing someone who devotes far too much time to expressing his opinion about their festival on the Internet.

The magic come from the MLA Compact (The Pyramid has the full MLA), also deployed with huge success at JPT and Genosys. Although you notice it less because with JPT it feels like you've left a building and at Genosys, you're usually to spangled to think about sound bleed.

Crystal Fighters have today liked that tweet and all the responses. Looking pretty likely I reckon.

Gilbert Vierich from Crystal Fighters has also liked the tweets and followed a number of Glastonbury related accounts.

Confidence Man will be on the John Peel I would suspect along with maybe Boy Azooga and Baxter Dury.

I imagine TOY will be back as they have a new album.

Hopefully Unloved will be there as well.

I've got a sneaky feeling Confidence Man might be one of the Thursday night TBC acts at William's Green.

I don't, was just responding to Keithy.

Maybe we should pick this up in the none-headliner thread.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
