Lineup 2020

I’m getting flashbacks of 2018 where the lineup didn’t come until after Christmas and everyone had sky high expectations. Guys... if reading announcements are delayed it’s not a good sign.

on the Sziget thread someone said how the booker has said only a thin line of acts are available for August festivals and the lineup is still being booked. I wouldn't expect much tbh.

Based on that and the history of modern later announcements I reckon it will be BMTH/Courteeners, Liam Gallagher and Biffy Clyro. I dont think it will be promising at all and I bet BMTH and Biffy will be as adventurous as they get. Teeners dont have any big gigs and are only doing dates at the Albert Hall so I think Leeds is on and if there arent many acts they will be boosted up.

European June to July period is booming and the August period is really suffering. Seems that most American acts come for those two months only and then come back to the states (to play August, September, October  states festivals). It is noticeable.

Definitely sounds like it's happening.

The impression Matt gave in this interview is that it would be around the time of the Global Citizen Festival they're doing in September, as opposed to the TCT gigs.

Tbf if its a By Request show like the one I missed at Shepherds Bush in 2017, say no more.

I’d love to see them with a strong co-headliner with Chems ending the night. Would give a feel of a “proper headliner” for those that who don’t think chems are big enough, and you’d be ending the day with one of the best live shows around in the dark.

Now let’s not talk about it too much before I get my hopes up about this ever happening 🤣

Well it seems to work better as an idea for other places - for instance, Mad Cool had a headliner finishing at 1am but other acts carrying on until about 4-5am, although it benefitted by being relatively in the middle of nowhere. Then again, Glastonbury's on a literal farm and the stages are all done by midnight, so its not a perfect comparison, even if that does have plenty of all night activities. But yeah - I think that would be a pretty cool way to do it, even if its a total long shot.

In before a comment about how not a single one of da kidz who go to Reading and Leeds have heard of AC/DC, as if it's only boomers who listen to one of the most popular rock bands of all time, and as if they wouldn't shift a load of day tickets anyway.

They just need to watch this from 2017! Amazing to be in that crowd when this happened!

Everyone knows Back In Black. They have a whole load of other hits too. The young 'uns would love them.

I'd love R&L to get a headliner like them, a band you wouldn't normally expect to headline the festival. When was the last time we had a headliner where people saw them on the bill and thought "I didn't expect that"? Fall Out Boy notwithstanding. Maybe The Cure in 2012.

Ironically i was actually watching 'Neck Deep' just before this, but felt sick as i'd not eaten all day, left Neck Deep to get a burger, then fuck me i see Brian Johnson appear on the main stage! WOW! Stayed for the rest of Muse!  I'd love to see AC/DC perform! Always preferred Brian Johnson to Bon Scott as well!

Not that it’s a good thing, but Kings ofLeon getting booked the year before last was unexpected

Courteeners subbing Liam Gallagher would be strong as fuck and I can actually see that happening.

I think the other two will be Biffy, and Travis Scott/BMTH. Picked that as a co headliner because BMTH like to do 75 minutes most of the time and I seen folk on this subsection saying Travis Scott does the same, so it makes sense to do that if they want to push them both up.

Oh, what's the chances of Dave as a sub headliner? Is anything stopping him? That could be a hell of a bold choice, and would probably pay off as well. IDLES third down or headlining the R1 as well somewhere there. Those are nailed down predictions that I'm not likely to change.

That was arguably the best fest moment for me

Up there with Foos Rick Rolling everyone

Foos playing with Rick Astley looked great on TV. Never thought I'd see a moshpit to that song but the vibe looked awesome.

Muse playing Back in Black looked cool as well. And a bit less ramshackle than when they brought on Nic Cester from Jet at a festival in Australia years ago to play that one.

Tbf I'm pretty sure there was a thing about being a last minute stand-in for somebody else. But yeah. I quite liked them both times I've seen them - even if on the second time, I didn't like the crowd - but I'm aware of how badly it went down. Makes me wonder if they need a longer break rather than every year festival turn ups, which they seem to have been doing for a while.

That’s not the impression I get. They may do two stand alone gigs rather than a tour, one gig is Global Citizen the other could be any time at the the Royal Albert Hall.

Doesn’t have to be at the same time.

The fact the 28th March doesn’t have a headliner yet for Teenage Cancer Trust suggests me that that’s when Muse will play.

    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never big the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
