This works on a lot of levels. Safer, encourages people to bring less and therefore leave less behind, spend money on site so the festival and traders make more money, smaller and faster moving queues too.

People putting their backs out carrying in £30 worth of beer because it'll save them a few quid. Madness.

I'm sure plenty of people bring beer to save money, but it's not just down to money, I personally bring beer so you've got some at camp and you've got some at the main stages so you don't need to spend 45 minutes treckinh to a bar and back every time you fancy a drink. It's nice to have some of your own alcohol purely for convenience.

TBF £30 worth of beer probably saves about £120, so you can see the attraction. But yeah, I'm all about traveling light so no beer for me. Wine on the other hand...

The flipside of that is that they buy stuff at the festival (like camping chairs, wellies, airbeds) and leave it all behind because they CBA to take it home again, so the Monday morning campsite carnage probably won't be any better.

I can't see the attraction to go through that to save 100 odd quid. Lugging a couple of extra stone of warm beer around for hours. A few cans for gigs and the rest from bars is the way forward.

Wine, oh yes! Don't need as much either.

Should be encouraged to drop it back to the Cozy Camper then. Theres loads of rubbish drop points now as well. Trucks collect all the rubbish and are off site in 5 minutes.

It'll never be 100% but its much easier now than before.

If you purely bring the beer you drink you will save quite a lot, isn't cheap for a pint on site. As the years have gone on I've started to bring less and less though, just treat it like a holiday and buy pints as and when. I still find it essential to have cans though, mainly for watching bands and camp. If you're at a stage that is busy and you don't have beer on you you're knackered

If they have dogs a plenty on the gates I think that will be a dark day for the festival. I know they have to be seen to be doing something and, in the main, it's for our own protection but one of the best things about the festival is the relaxed attitude. They've always been out for dealers as appose to Joe Bloggs turning up with a couple of bags for himself to have a good time

i'm starting to think we might be separated from our bags (hence the name tags) and they will be searched away from us and we will have to pick them up like airport security?

They would be issuing more specific instructions if that was the case. Think the tags are just there to help identify any abandoned bags. A quick phone call to a bag owner is better than having to call the bomb squad to deal with a suspect package.

That's always their official line but make no mistake, if they find it after a search they'll nick you.

Obviously, goes without saying. But compared to any other festival I have been to in this country, it's a lot more laid back

the issue isn't so much that they're actively looking for it, rather just that there is a higher chance of it being found if the searches are more regular .

Can you evidence this statement ? Just curious.

A few years ago I got stopped going in and searched. The security team told me that if I had anything on me then to hand it over and I'd be let in. If they went through my stuff and they found anything I'd be in trouble depending on what they found.

I only had a small amount of weed on me so I just handed it over, wasn't worth the hassle.

yeah I've never heard of people getting nicked for trying to take drugs into a festival. Only heard of them having it taken off them and then still allowed in. Although that being said, most the times I've heard of people getting caught it's been for weed.

Just personal observation. This is the cops we're talking about here, not festival security who'll most likely just have to put in the banned items bin. I've seen someone pulled over at Castle Cary by the cops, asked if he had anything and warned that if he came clean now he'd only get a caution. If they searched him and found anything he'd be getting nicked.

Edit: There's also a decent percentage of the yearly arrest total for possession as well.

Surely with the increased security / police presence there to protect against any sort of terrorist related incident or weapons being taken in if they were to find a small bit of whatever drugs you choose to take then making a massive deal of it will actually defeat the object of their presence?

It would tie up 1/2 of the security services and probably a couple of coppers meanwhile something far worse could sneak through due to attentions being diverted to something much less important in the grand scheme.

Probably the best move.

If this was outside the festival and they had say handed over a bag of Class A they would have been nicked regardless of fessing it up or not, now compare this to the entry gates at the festival I dont think you will see the police making drugs arrests (for obvious personal use that is) as it simply takes up too much time and resources which they are going to want to keep free for more serious matters.

That's my opinion anyway.
