a version of Bananarama were already announced for a fest this summer. I was contacted by that fest about a week before the announcement and asked to remove it, but also told they'd still be playing ... so I'm not entirely sure what's going on there.

But WTF is going on here? Next up, will people be wanting Westlife? FFS.:wacko:

To be fair one of them has already headlined the place.

in an act worthy of mention (tho not because of a banana).

There were still loads of people laughing their arses off at a banana headlining. Me included.

I don't think anyone's gonna claim them as a capital Important act, but for a bit of fun early in the day I can think of worse ways to wake up - they made a sustained enough impact on the charts to have soundtracked my younger years to a certain extent, down the school disco and in Smash Hits.

And they do have a more serious and resonant artistic legacy than Placebo.

You're talking about Karen Woodward, aren't you?

I should caveat the info I got from my friend... He said that the drummer is going to Glastonbury, by didn't know if it was just as a punter or playing with another act.

They have shows elsewhere on the Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and Monday so I think that info is probably duff.

Maximo Park are selling their newly released album for a fiver on CD today to try and get it into the charts. Also includes a raffle ticket to win a signed guitar. Whatever happened to them? Stinks of desperation.

I don't like them flogging it like that either, but it's a cracking record, and sounds really good live. Their live show is always great, but they don't have the mass appeal that Other opener needs (like MSP or Elbow).

Was it not Lorde booked to do it in 2014 but she cancelled due to illness so Kaisers jumped in then also headlined JP same night?

There was a rumour that she was supposed to be there but there are differing stories as to what capacity she was supposed to be there in. One rumour is that she was supposed to guest with Arcade Fire.

Looking at all the other secret Other openers, Lorde doesn't seem to fit what they've been going for.

I guess I'm one of the few people to see the original Bananarama line up. I went to see The Jam at the Michael Sobell Sports Centre in Islington (they did strange things like that in those days!) and 3 young girls skipped on stage with a tape machine, pressed play and started to sing. I thought 'There's no way these girls are ever getting a career in music'. Shows what I know.

no worries. I wasn't saying they're not booked - they might be for all i know - but I have noticed over the years that they get booked regularly for Reading/Leeds and occasoionally other UK fests, but haven't done Glasto since I've been doing efests.

As someone mentioned above it might be because Glasto won't give them a high slot - whereas at R/L I've often felt they're in a slot they've not really deserving of nowadays.

    • Attended a gig at Piece Hall for the first time on Saturday (Opeth), the music was excellent. Just a couple of points on the organisation & the event itself. - Getting through the gates seemed to take longer than required. I was at the South gate about 30 mins before stated start time and still missed first half of Katatonia. - Coffee stall was serving cold coffee later on. - Lots of the crowd seemed to be more interested in chatting than listening to the music. Doubly annoying when sound levels for Opeth seemed quieter than Paradise Lost, is this usual for the venue due to curfew etc? Luckily there was enough room so I could move close to the front of the crowd and couldn't hear drunken chatter anymore 🙂
    • Tickets will just be sent out via email; going out next Monday 10th August apparently.
    • That's how I'd see it, either or, 3 BST rules her out.
    • Surely the chances of Madonna doing three+ nights at BST and also Glastonbury is pretty low? I know Elton did (2?) nights at BST but it seems like it’s one or the other at this point?   A shame. I think she would be absolutely brilliant - plus, unfortunately, given that she isn’t as able as she was means this could be a now or never situation?
    • All of these were published in July of their respective year. Appreciate the festival is a little later than normal but it must surely be live in the next 48 hours? The first events start in five days! 🤣
