Do Placebo tend to do this more than anyone else??

Oh...are they shit now :( I guess tbf I haven't seen them since 2004. Many things are more shit now than they were in 2004

I don't think they were ever Yeti's cup of tea. I suspect his main problem was that they were playing Placebo songs in the style of Placebo. Which seems more than reasonable, but doesn't mean if you enjoyed them in 2004, you wouldn't enjoy them today.

Was @H.M.V there too, but willingly? What does she think of their performance?

I saw them in 2015 and they were really good, but then I don't seem to have access to the efests cool list

Oh me neither don't worry. Maybe they were having an odd day - I was really excited to see them but they fell totally flat. Lost the crowd completely.

Apparently the reviews say it was well received and the Irish boards likewise. I just find if I'm yapping its not engaging me. And I'm not a gig yapper, we went to the front to see if vibe was different and meh so went back to the back to hang out again. Highlight of the night was myself and my mate buying another mate (big placebo fan) a t-shirt and her face when we gave it to her.

if you were a Placebo fan - as our friend was - then i dare say it was fine.  i went as a neutral and not knowing anything they've done since the 90s and there was nothing for me to be interested in, which would be no good at a festival.  they were onstage really early too (no support), so we missed the opening salvo which included a tune i did know.

turned into one of those gigs where i decided to see how drunk i could get/look at my phone instead.

still, tickets were only 50 quid..

his show's recently have had great reviews

finishing off with bittersweet symphony, it wasn't  too many years ago that his band head lined and were awesome

Was at one of his stripped back shows in Newcastle and it was superb!

His arena sized venues have an orchestra added so I could see that on the Other opening blasting out all the classics. Great start to the weekend!

Really enjoyed James opening The Other stage last year. Whoever it is this year, I just hope they have lots of hits to singalong to. The classic mid 90s bands really seem to suit that spot.

Who cares who it is...... Hacienda Classical is on the Pyramid

Which is exactly why I care who it is - needs to be somebody shit to remove an early morning clash. Friday's are clash-filled enough as it is without adding one at 11am.

Were getting clashes all weekend, pick one, forget the other are playing and enjoy.

Doesnt matter who is opening the other now that Hacienda Classical are playing

I'm sure Placebo were listed as UK festival exclusive for Latitude.  I've always wondered why they never get booked for Glastonbury as well.  I was a big fan of their first few albums and found that even their later releases had something about them I enjoyed, even if I never really got massively into those records.  Every year they are one of those names that I'm hopeful will be on the bill as I've never got round to seeing them live.

I know I've seen a bit of talk saying it could be Elbow but is this based on anything?

I've arrived late to the rumour Mill and its hard working out what's going on?

Plus I'd be absolutely delighted if it was them

I believe somebody on here met Guy Garvey and asked if they were playing Glastonbury and he hinted that they were. Only available on the Friday and haven't yet been announced, so if they are in fact playing it looks like it's either Other opener or possibly a secret act on the Park. But that's all we're basing it on I think (maybe there was more to it than that?) and it may end up being bollocks.

I'd be shocked if they weren't playing given their new album and love for the festival. I don't think they will be other opener I think they will just appear on the fill line up once announced.

Where though? The Pyramid is looking pretty full on the Friday and there ain't really an appropriate space for them elsewhere (can't see them being on before Major Lazer on Other...). Perfect candidate for a secret set this year I'd have thought.

I'm not really sure to be honest but other opener would be a strange slot for them, certainly deserving of a better slot than that

    • Stadium gig/s 100% 2027.   As for the offer - dunno what to think. The source is very well placed and, to me, the timing checks out - I'm basing that on the stadium gigs coming after an arena tour... coming after a new record... following a record that propelled them to the next level.   As I keep saying with any info I've shared for Glastonbury next year, though, none of it feels nailed to me.    I assume that they're doing a half decent job of keeping things quiet (still early, I guess). It's all little bits of stuff doing the rounds in the industry. There's none of it that I'd hang my hat on right now. The bits I've shared - I thought they were worth sharing, given the source. Chat about Madonna, the Fontaines snippet, chat about Fender.    A gun to my head right now - Madonna would still be my number one bet. More of a gut feeling, but I feel like the recent doubt may be the festival and/or her people trying to calm the noise a bit after the Graham Norton slip, rather than a u-turn.
    • Have settlers people started receiving their car park passes? I was sure I had bought one, but cant find a receipt for it and nothing through the post yet.
    • @northernangel Are Wolf Alice not in the conversation? They just did a sold out Finsbury Park to 45,000 people, if they're ever gonna get the push it's now.
