2019 Headliners

This whole "not big enough to headline" thing; Glastonbury has the potential to create festival headliners and shouldn't be relying on the Old Guard all the time.

Foals & Tame Impala could headline if Glastonbury wanted to give them the chance.   Foals have already proved themselves capable with R&L and Tame Impala will have Coachella under the belts by then.

I actually don't think either will headline but it'd be a shame if Glastonbury didn't consider giving bands like that a bump up.

Yeah they released a single that Brandon Flowers apparently started writing like 7 years ago. It didn't come with any news of a new album or anything and it doesnt seem like a reason to tour. Seems like a total one off, to me.

And I'm not saying they couldn't end up touring; the last album is probably still recent enough to do another string of festivals on the back of, they just don't seem likely right now when it's already January and there's no indication of them touring.

Flowers said the band’s new album will likely arrive in 2020. “In a perfect world, I could see the end of the year having something, but it’s probably more likely that it would be early 2020,” he explained.

So hard to keep up.   I know that Emily ruled out Fleetwood Mac and Madonna.

I think that leaves us with the following options, have any of these been ruled out?

The Strokes
Lady GaGa
Rihanna
Foals
Tame Impala
Ariana Grande
Bon Jovi
The 1975
The Killers
Liam Gallagher

Add the Banjo Bunch to that list too

Completely different. Stormzy is a massive mainstream star. Tame Impala are the polar opposite.

They may not be the biggest mainstream act in the world but they’re definitely not polar opposites. They’d never be headlining Coachella if they weren’t mainstream.

Id be very surprised if they’re at Glasto this year but the Stormzy booking means you can’t discount these types of acts in the future.

Am I right in thinking the perceived idea that the Sunday headliner is to appease the "locals" (which i'm sure i've read numerous times) wouldn't really fit the new idea that The Strokes are headlining on aforementioned day?

Looks incredibly like that The Cure are the Sunday headliner, so we're looking for a Saturday night party act...

With Macca out of the picture, it'd be The Cure for Sunday now surely given they're in Belgium on the Friday?

Thought we were thinking The Cure on Sunday?

I find it really odd the odds for The Strokes. You would of thought a good odd would have made people put more money on but were consistently low. Someone knows something and I cant see past it know however I couldnt see past Macca and how did that turn out?

the locals have an expectation of an act 'for them' who haven't been at the festival all weekend - although they don't always get it.

Michael got loads of hassle any time he was out and about the year they booked Muse for the Sunday.

That's quite funny tbf. Oasis and Macca the first two nights then the locals get Muse (who were obvs a much smaller, less mainstream proposition back in 2004). I'd imagine a lot felt similarly in 2013.

and because they didn't get Macca that time is why I think he was Sunday this time.

    • The Great Fete Festival (Sunday Only) Ocean Colour Scene day on Tickets For Good.
    • I was also at Ghost but seated. When they scanned my ticket's and they came up as seated they printed a small ticket with the seat number info.
    • I was standing for Ghost at O2 London last year where they put the phone in a pouch beforehand so I assume they're is a mechanism in place for people in seats.
    • Most likely not, keeping an eye on Tixel and Twickets might be the best option.
