my first ticket would have been £5 in 1979 { but I got in for free as I was friends of a Band }

 

using official UK inflation data that £5 is now worth £25.67

 

clearly the site has expanded a lot since then.

 

A concert ticket at the 02 London to see the Stones would be at least £100 so when you consider what you get in return it still looks good value.

Lot of money really, now. Starting to make me think. It's coming in at about the 2 grand mark for me and my partner. That's a lot of cash. Could buy a big pile of records/books for that. I think I'll not be too upset if I don't get through come T-Day. I mean I like it and all, but do I like it 2000 quids' worth?

I still see the price is good value when compared to the going rates for a single concert, any sort of name band it's minimum £20 and arenas upwards. Put it another way, you can go see Mumford & Sons five times on their current tour for about the same price as Glastonbury.

The CV field prices are over-priced though, as facilities are very limited. A regular campsite would cost about the same, with full facilities. I wonder if the big price hike is connected to what Eavis was complaining about with his neighbours demanding more money for use of their fields? So is it the price we have to pay to keep the festival at Pilton?

Yeah, i see the argument that you can easily pay 100 notes to see the stones, but i wouldn't do that. That only works if you would go and see those bands and pay those prices.

Avalon Fields, i reckon you're right, the campervan/parking tickets seem a direct reaction to the cost of land for these facilities. Would be good if the number of cars significantly dropped so they didn't need all that land and the Eavii could flick the rods at the greedy bastards.

While I admit the car parking is pricey which I think is the issue, it's going to cost about £240 next year for Wed to Sun Reading canping so in comparison it's still very good.

Next spring's Muse arena dates are £71.50 for standing tickets and a 2-hour show. Whether you like them or not, that makes Glastonbury with five days/nights of camping and more bands/performances than you could ever fit in indescribably good value in today's market, and compared to any other festival really...

Unbelievable how much gig tickets have increased - even just in last couple of years. Twenty quid got you a decent size band in a good venue not that long ago.

Jack white over forty quid at Leeds arena this year. Admittedly it was fucking brilliant but saw him at Blackpool winter gardens a couple of years before for much cheaper. And a much better venue that wasn't charging me and a half quid to drink my own reconstituted piss.

Actually after being in the boozer beforehand, my piss would probably have been more alcoholic!

i've got a few old ticket stubs from gigs around 20 years ago, manchester academy was usually £7-£10ish, Nirvana at Gmex (which never happened) was £12.

 

but back then i used to fork out £11.99 for a cd so music wasn't all cheap!

Don't think I've seen an established band in an arena or stadium in years now. Ticket prices are outrageous. Top tier artists and bands are like top tier football teams. Their 'events' are targeted towards people who view them in the same light as a trip to the theatre, i.e it's a 'special occasion' or a night out, an entertainment package.

 

For me though, you still can't beat dirty little venues seeing some new bands and occasionally catching someone amazing.

 

As someone who lives in the South West, getting to gigs can be hugely expensive. Am going to Berlin in November to see Best Coast. Flights from Exeter, two nights in Berlin, gig tickets..... all works out cheaper than seeing the same band in Brixton Academy once you factor in London hotels, trains, drink prices etc. Bonkers.

 

Glastonbury is still worth it at the moment, especially as it's now a 5 day event. I'd probably still pay £300 for the ticket (£60 a day). The 'getting there' is still my main expensive. Coaches require me to stay in a hotel the night before, driving will cost my old car a fortune in petrol or mean buying a more modern car.

We will once again be trying in a couple of weeks for tickets, If we don't get them , and we've been lucky for 6 years straight so reckon we will achieve no.7, then i'll probably give it a miss as the Euros are in June and fancy a trip to France. It is just becoming a little expensive, though actually when you think about it the Euros trip would be the same money really. I obviously would prefer Glastonbury as in my head I'm giving myself the fallow year to decide if I've had enough, but while friends and family are still up for it i'll be trying, if it was just me I wouldn't.. £228 ( £274 if you include the rest) as a ticket is still affordable,

Not a hope I would either but the point is escalation of prices. U2 get away with crazy prices this tour, Muse try their luck at £75, Madonna etc charging similar. Glasto are only charging the going market rate really when you consider the amount of bands you could see.

 

Its up to people who care about this sort of thing (a lot of people don't) to at the very least refuse to buy a ticket. Best case scenario is what the Italians did for Barbra Streisand and protest the scandalous prices for exactly the reasons stated above and get the gig cancelled. "Fuck you, your greed isn't going to make our future more expensive" sort of thing.

 

And they did. Hence Muse tickets are £75 for the London dates and £39 (54 euro) for the Milan shows. Same for most shows in Italy. They're nearly always a lot cheaper. Exact same show, same musicians, same road crew, same setlist, same production, half the price?! Hmmm....
