Didn't Emily say something about creating a human peace sign at the Pyramid on that sidetracked episode? Could it be to do with that?

Spot on. If you rotate and squidge this portion of the webcam image it's unmistakable:

Not sure why they kept getting so excited with the woodchip the last couple of years in good weather. It's hardly like it's the stuff you get in kids play areas either, you could probably build houses with it. Really annoying to walk on.

Better to be ahead of any potential bad weather than trying to catch up. 
 

also if it’s dry the dust it kicks up gives a magical view of the late evening pyramid stage on tv.
